LIVE from the RUBY PRINCESS - DEC. 22ND - DEC. 26TH. Cr

Welcome aboard the lovely Ruby Princess where it looks as if there are lots of first time cruisers. So many visible blue cards. And kids. I’ve already seen enough of them running the corridors and pushing elevator buttons. But it is a Christmas cruise, and Christmas is for families. There's a gingerbread town in the Atrium which so far is all I've seen for decorations. My door is decorated and they have also put an artificial small wreath in the mailbox.

Seems like only yesterday that we got off a ship. Oh yes, that’s right. We did. The Royal is parked at pier 2 and we boarded next door at old old old pier 4. There is a sign that they will be redoing this one too, but no idea when it will occur. We were third on the ship; two wheelchairs ran in front of us. In our cabin at noon with mini bar intact. Called room service and within ten minutes they switched me out. This time we took two coffee cards. Our friends switched their bar and we will share half of that and they will get a coffee card. The best of both worlds for a four day cruise. And, the coffee cards are unmarked :)

Here are some of the ship’s personnel:

Captain: Commodore Giuseppe Romano

Staff Captain: Jon Paul Bryant

Hotel Manager: Guenther Kopf

Cruise Director: Lee Childers

Customer Service: Jeanine Whitehouse

Maitre d’ Nicola Furlan

Having never been on a 4 day cruise, there is a difference in certain things. There will not be a Captain’s Circle party, so we have each been given a beverage ticket to be used in the Elite lounge or at any bar other than the dining room. There will also not be a most traveled luncheon ,and in lieu of that we can choose a complimentary dinner of our choice in either the Crown Grill or Sabatini’s. There is no formal night, but tomorrow, which is a sea day, the suggested dress for dinner is “dress to impress.” I think that means they’d like me to get out of my jeans. Hahaha :p

So what’s happening today? As you know, nothing happens the first day and at night it’s always the welcome aboard show. Not tonight. Tonight there’s a production show; “Colors of the World.” We saw it on the Royal in October, so we’ll go again to see if it’s done the same way. Of the new shows on the Royal, this was the best one. The only thing on MUTS will be football (Bears vs. Eagles).

Other entertainment:

1. Juggler in the Piazza several times afternoon & evening

2. G & V Duo in the Wheelhouse

3. Atomic Party Band in Explorer’s

4. Craig Andrews in Crooners

And that’s about it for now. Hope lots of you cruise along with me. You know I love the company. :D

Almost forgot. Wine table when you pass security. They recorded my one bottle.

Pia, thanks so much for doing the "Live". We will be watching this thread closely. I do have a question that you may know the answer to. As everyone is aware, you are allowed one bottle of wine per person per voyage and anything over that, there is a 15.00 fee. My question is what about the passengers who are doing back to backs? Are they allowed a bottle of wine for EACH cruise? We are doing 4 cruises back to back so I'm wondering if we would be allowed to bring on 8 bottles (not that we would)? Just curious how that works. Also, did you have to stop at the wine table or did you just bypass them because you only had one bottle? Hope that made sense :D Thanks so much.

After five hours in the car in rainy virginia, it's so nice to be a "virtual passenger" on the beautiful Ruby! Looking forward to a short but sweet cruise. It occurred to me that you were barely home long enough to do laundry and repack.

Thanks for taking us along. I really need it! ;)

Have fun. Kim and Steve had to wait till about 7:15 to get off the Ruby and then a 30 minute wait for shuttle to pier 21. The ship failed to mention to the ground crew that there were about 100 people that might need a shuttle to pier 21. They're about 1 1/2 hrs from home. Have fun!

Looking forward to your LIVE from the Ruby as we will be on her for five days January 27. We take short cruises so my question is because the Caribbean is so casual do you change for dinner? We are not going to do formal night. Karen

Did the personalizer show a "dress to impress" evening or just say all evenings were smart casual?

We were on the 14 dec Ruby to Cozumel. While there was no "formal" night they did have the formal photo locations set up on the first sea day (evening). They also had photo opps on the other nights. The first night in the dining rooms it was "come as you are" with everything from shorts to suits. First sea day there were people dressed formally and a fair number of suits and dresses. Most people were smart casual... With others still "very casual".

Hi Pia,

Enjoy your cruise, and Happy Holidays to you and Mike. Starting to really warm up here in Oz - today is 88 and tomorrow and Christmas around the 90's with a very hot 95 on Sunday.

Looking forward to reading all about your next four days.

Nicki

:rolleyes:Monday morning at sea where it’s partly cloudy but temp should reach 80. A whole week on the Crown and we never once went to the Elite lounge. Well last night we did. Mike and our friends ate 10 lbs. of smoked salmon (sure looked like it). I don’t eat that stuff. But the veggies, olives, and cheese was fine for me. We then had a leisurely HC dinner and went to the theater to see Colors of the World. We saw this new show on the Royal, but something is different and I can’t explain what it is. Perhaps someone on CC has seen both and can tell you. Casino visit was short, but profitable.

A few things to say before I forget. If you read the Live from the Crown, I told you about the new salads at the Int. Café. I didn’t go down there, but friend Marcia said they are the same yucky ones I described to you last week.

Now for today’s agenda. Some morning items are:

1. Back to the Future on MUTS

2. The Up to 75% off Sale. (They are sure not wasting time to present this one)

3. Turkey carving demonstration in the Piazza

4. Lots of different money making spa “seminars.”

Afternoon brings Art, Bingo, more spa stuff, movie World War Z in the theater and Hitch on MUTS.

Tonight there will be a champagne waterfall at 7:15, comedian Phil Tag in the theater and the 49ers vs. Falcons on MUTS.

RESPONSES:

1. Margie: I did mention they recorded my one bottle. No clue about B2B. However we too will be doing one next month, but fortunately we will board with non-drinker friends who can carry extra for me.

2. Frank: Yes. Mini bar exactly the same

3. Gail: CC hostess told me 5 day would not have lunch but would have formal night party.

4. Wendy: I saw you wave :)

5. Karen: If I don’t go to DR, I wear jeans. Or shorts. HC doesn’t stand on ceremonies.

6. Bill: pretty sure personalizer never used the “dress to impress” terminology

7. Annie: Yes. Is there something else to do than go from ship to ship? I know, work. But I’m finished with that and some day you will be too. ;)

8. What you didn’t ask. There are only 81 Elites on this cruise and we are #2 most traveled. Numero uno has 30 more days. Doesn’t really matter when there’s no award party. I certainly don’t want or need the champagne or paperweight, but I do like the photo we get with the Captain.

Gym not crowded when I got there; all treadmills available immediately, not like on the Crown. The also opened before seven. Just came down and now it's getting packed

Signing off for now.
