Hi, not looking for help, maybe a little sympathy. I will miss the Splendor cruise 2/5. The weather was not described as dangerous, but it is. I live in Eastern PA,called the bus co.I've taken to NYC many times, the message, all buses to NYC and Newark are cancelled, check back for updates. Horrified, I checked trains, trees were down on the tracks. States of NJ and NY declared a state of emergency, only emergency personnel and vehicles allowed. We are having an ice storm 1/2"solid ice over 8" from Monday's storm.I called Carnival emergency #,they could not say until 2pm if the departure would be delayed. If the Port of NY decides the ship will leave on time, the gangway closes at 3:30.Drive, I can't get there until 4:30.

Trees are breaking off, blocking traffic, slush is freezing, many accidents.

I love cruising but the obstacles made this trip a no go. The area is now getting more sleet and freezing rain. I hope the people who made it have a great time. Enjoy the warm sun.

We missed our ship once. We had insurance. They just kept telling us to catch up with the ship. We tried, to no avail. We were in constant contact with Carnival the entire time. Got to spend a mini vacation around three different airports on the insurance companies dime.

We were eventually offered a choice of four cruise dates the following month, which we took. All was well in the world.

It took several phone calls to fix missing the ship because of NY weather. I was going to go to Pt Canaveral Sat,finish the rest of the cruise, when I called Carnival to let them know, I was shocked, the Jones Act violation would cost me $300 besides the flight cost. I argued it was not an original booking in 2 US ports,it was a catch up with my ship. No luck,a rule applies.

I was transferred to a Customer Care Specialist. It took about an hour to solve my problem. I'm booked on Friday Feb 21 for the entire cruise returning Sat March 1. The State of Emergency declared by 3 states was a major cause of missing Splendour.

The rep Tammi was fabulous,I sent an email to Carnival, she is a real asset to the corporation. I had to pay the difference between the rate I originally had and the guarantee rm I have now.I don't care where the rm is,I'm on a cruise to the Bahamas. Thanks to Tammi and Carnival.

Yes, I wrote about this earlier in the thread. BTW, it's not a "rule," it's a law. And it's not the Jones Act, it's the Passenger Vessel Services Act (PVSA).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passenger_Vessel_Services_Act_of_1886

Here's the relevant section as you have already learned:

No foreign vessels shall transport passengers between ports or places in the United States, either directly or by way of a foreign port, under a penalty of $200 (now $300) for each passenger so transported and landed.

The ship would have to visit a so-called distant foreign port (e.g., South America) for this provision to not be applicable.

I'm certainly glad you pursued this with CCL and the results were in your favor. Will your roommate be going, too? Happy that you were able to change your schedule

So, so happy for you! You will get your cruise! Be sure to keep an eye on the weather and get out of town early if predictions are bad. We are neighbors...I'm right down the road in Harleysville. The weather this winter in our area has been quite a challenge.

So glad to hear the outcome.

I was thinking you could drive down to Fla in a day and a half to catch it if they didn't give away your cabin. Then of course your car would be stuck there so that's not good.

Great to know to call Carnival in case anything like that ever happens. Congrats and have a great time!!!!

i live very close to Telford... you totally should have left the day before. Why would you not do everything possible to get there? Instead of just getting a hotel room you just lost out on all of that cruise fare.

I watch the same local news that you do, and they were predicting the ice storm before the first storm on Monday. It sucks you didn't make other plans, I'd probably have walked there knowing what we all had to go through the last several days, and knowing there's more ice coming this week. Hope you weren't without power for too long thought, it was truly awful here.
