If I was selling my house next year and I was having company coming and my guestroom had ratty sheets, I think I would spring for a new set.

I imagine they will replace sheets as needed on an ongoing basis. But I doubt you'd replace your carpets and chairs for company.

Its an obsolete asset on its last legs with a finite time left in its useful life to RCI/X that is not worthy of further investment, just maintain it.

I'm on the Dubai-Rome sailing in April, and will happily suffer thru the terribly worn furnishings and enjoy the cruise itself. Luckily for those who can't tolerate the shabbiness, there's other ships to book. Sailing in a suite then too, so kind of upset I'll miss out on the new Suite Perks programs by a week :-(

I think all the 15th cruisers should temper their expectations; it is what it is. The Century sale deal has probably been on the books for a year.No new decor required. The food is not as good as other X ships. Staff may be better than some other X ships. My only questions are: where is Elite cocktail hour? Still Elite breakfast; where? What is going to happen to all the cruisers stuck in Northern airports? How long will ship wait?

Please advise of internet or WiFi onboard thanks

I am in cabin 8214 aft and can use my laptop in the room. It's a little bit slow but not bad.

The cruise has been great so far. I think the ship looks just fine even with a little bit of wear and tear.

We have had great service in the dining room. Ate around 7pm both nights and the food was very good. We have select dining.

Safe travels.

Hi Trabeler,

I have not visited the Crystal room yet, but will try to check for you. Regarding Michael's Club. I'm certain it's a Zenith Lounge for the morning and afternoon hours. As for the evening ? I'm not entirely certain if it's a Zenith lounge or not, but will look into this tomorrow. I passed by Michael's tonight, and it was nearly empty. According to the Celebrity Daily - Jordan Peterson is performing at the Cova Cafe.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the updates on our son, Jordan Peterson. Sad about Michael's Club...it was a rockin' place on our Holiday Panama Canal Cruise. Tell Florin, the bartender at Michael's Club "hello" from Jordan's parents! He was the best. He and Jordan had a great time together in Michael's.

I am on Century in April. this will be my FIRST Celebrity cruise. I assure you if she looks shabby and worn, no amount of great service, terrific food and awesome activities will make up for the poor visual appeal. if she looks like crap, I will be very underwhelmed by the company as a whole and I will think twice or even three times before ever giving them another shot.

there is no excuse when she has a YEAR left to let her go completely to pot.

I agree with you. I'm in the Century in March and this is my fist experience with X. While I did pick the ship for the itinerary, this will be the experience I use to compare the line to all of the others I've sailed.

I was on the HAL Oosterdam just before a lengthy drydock and there was a lot of wear and tear in both the staterooms and in the public spaces. I happened to sail her again a few months after drydock (unplanned) and it was like night and day. The ship looked so much better.

Given your criteria you probably should have booked one of the Solstice class ships first (the newer the better). I am almost certain (based on this post) that you will be disappointed. Of course it will be up to you as to how you react. I would recommend that you try one of the newer ship is before you totally discount Celebrity.

Try to have a good time. I would focus on the good aspects of the Century/Celebrity if I was you. I enjoyed my cruise on The Century a few years ago although it was not the best choice of ships because it was the ship doing the Australia/New Zealand itinerary. (Year before Celebrity switched to the Solstice)

Agree, You can't really judge the entire cruise line by its oldest asset that is known to be in its last year of use.

Or overlook the physical conditions, and react to the crew and on board services. I'd say at least those should still give a good handle on Celebrity as a whole in this circumstance.

Spook. Check to see what date for final payment on Century You can cancel prior that date. You will not be happy on Century. .I also agree it is not the ship for you. They are practically giving away the Spring Transatlantics inc. both beautiful Silhoutte and Reflections. 2 of best ships at sea in my opinion.

Hi Andy....glad to see you are making the most of your trip. We'll be sailing on the Century in a few weeks and have an aft cabin on deck 9. I was rather curious about any noticeable vibration towards the aft on this boat on this deck. We sailed all the way aft on the Mercury before and when they pulled into port, it just popped you right out of bed. Do you think it would be worth it to pay a bit extra to move a little towards midship?

Also, have you heard anything good or bad about Murano since you've been onboard? I am trying to plan something special for my DHs birthday and thought that might be a nice option. thanks so much and enjoy the rest of your cruise!! :)

I sailed on Century when she was new and a couple of times after. We were in an aft cabin once and the vibration was the same as the Mercury. It woke us up in the morning when pulling into port and you could hear it in the evening. It is from the aft thrusters and the whole room vibrates....You can also feel it in the MDR when they put the thrusters on usually leaving and pulling into a port. Fortunately it only lasts a few minutes.

I am onboard. I am in a Sky Suite on deck 12.

As far as I can tell they did absolutely nothing to the interior of the ship during the drydock:( I was on here for 30 days in Oct/Nov and have not seen any differences.

The first day our toilet would only flush maybe an hour after the button was pressed. Our next door neighbor called and had the line cleaned out at 3 AM. Now they work.

I was in the Hemisphere lounge during sail away from Nassau yesterday afternoon. It was raining earlier in the day and there was water on the upholstery near the windows. So they had a known water leak that was not fixed during the dry dock.

As for the Michaels Club, it has been converted to a VIP lounge. This is the very first Michaels Club to undergo the conversion. The conversion involved adding a desk for the VIP lounge concierge. The new concierge on this ship is a WONDERFUL lady. The new VIP lounge is open 24 hours a day for VIP's only. On this ship those in a Century, Royal or Penthouse suite plus Zenith cruisers are considered VIP's. They chose the Century suites since there are only a few of them. There are WAY too many Sky suites on here. In total there are 40-50 guests considered VIP's. During embarkation all VIP's were escorted from the terminal to the lounge by shore side staff. All of the other ships will have the Michaels Club converted to a VIP lounge by early April. On all other ships the VIP's are the Celebrity, Royal & Penthouse guests plus Zenith.

On the other ships the craft beer will be moved from the Michaels Club to Cellar Masters so that non-VIP's still have access to it.

As for the vibration it is significantly more than the other Celebrity ships and can be felt throughout the entire ship (I could feel it in the Hemisphere lounge at the front of the ship). My cabin is near the back of the ship and the vibration is not much worse there.

If there are any questions please ask:)

Is this correct? I had read that Michaels would be used for the Elite drinks up to 7pm then be open access. We are on Eclipse in May and Perry Grant is onboard and would normally perform in Michaels. If the above is true where will Perry perform?

When they tested the VIP lounge on the Infinity it closed at 7:00 PM and opened up to everyone at that time. I specifically asked Brian Cooper who is in charge of all the conversions and is on this 3 night cruise for the opening of the lounge on the Century. I also asked the VIP concierge. Both told me that the lounge on ALL ships will be VIP 24/7. Don't know what will happen with Perry Grant. Maybe move him to a different venue:confused:

Even before the change in Captain's Club, I kept saying that using Michael's Club for Elite gatherings was an urban myth. I saw it mentioned many places but we never experienced it. Our Elite cocktail parties were always in venues like the Sky Lounge or using vouchers. The Elite breakfast was always set up in the Sky Lounge or a specialty restaurant.

Thanks for posting.

How's the food been?

Is the A/C working well?

The food had been GREAT:)

We had wonderful service the first night and were done by 7:30 (with 6:00 early seating).

The prime rib was great.

Last night we dined with the Captain and had the new custom menus that are a mix of Murano and MDR formal night menus.

Tonight we dine at Murano.

The food at the buffet has been fine, but there are ALWAYS long lines even though there are lots of empty tables. The Solstice class buffet with the self serve stations works SO much better:)

Funny you should ask about the A/C. Our cabin has been colder than we would like (even with the thermostat set to full hot). I had to wear my sweatshirt and gloves to bed the first night:( We have had the A/C guy out several times. If you like it cold, you will be thrilled. Unfortunately the Century does not allow the guest nearly as wide a range of self adjustment using the thermostat as the Millennium & Solstice class ships.

Andy, May I ask a couple of questions.

1. If I do not have any drink Pkg, can I still get coffee, juice, water, soda at the buffet? I understand if I am in the MDR and I order a coke, I will be charged for it.

2. I have "hotspot" on my phone which allows me to connect to WiFi even while riding in the car. Can I use this on the ship at no additional charge?

Thanks. Hope you are having a great time. See you tomorrow!!!

No myth; early April 2013 we had a 5 nighter on Connie with Graeme as CC host and the Elite nightly function was in Michaels every evening.

I am on also on Century in April 26th . This will be my FIRST Celebrity cruise. I hope they make some cosmetic changes before we board as I have made final payment and I will also think twice if everything is really bad. I realized she was an older ship when I booked, which did not deter me, but I really wanted to try Century and the itinerary was what I wanted. I hope I don't regret not going on Princess for the same dates and itinerary.
