sailawayjack Posted July 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2014  Royal Carib, Celebrity, Azamara. Three cruise lines, one parent company, three loyalty programs. After reaching Diamond status with RCCL, I have taken (and scheduled) two Celebrity cruises. As a courtesy, Celeb grants me Elite status, but I earn no RCCL points toward Diamond Plus. I would be more inclined to purchase a cruise on one of these 3 lines, knowing that I could be earning cruise credits no matter which line I sailed on. Why not make one Loyalty Program, combining all credits earned on all 3 lines. Anyone like this idea:cool: JACK IS SAILING AGAIN

Aquahound Posted July 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2014 Well of course I like that idea. I'm sure we all do. Just be careful what you ask for. Like airlines and like hotels, if they went to a program like that, it could be a program that resets every year. At least with cruise lines, your status is permanent. Also, with all 3 cruise lines under the same program, the thresholds to reach each level could raise dramatically.

leisuretraveler223 Posted July 24, 2014 #10 Share Posted July 24, 2014 I think people miss the big picture when it comes to loyalty programs. You all want them to keep doing things to allow you to accrue more credits faster (points from sister lines, points for suites, points for solo travelers). And that's all fine and good. But it's kind of shortsighted. The easier it is to accrue points, the inherently less valuable they become. As such, the lines will continue to have to raise the bar with regards to what perks you get. Loyalty programs are like casino comps. If you chase them, you're nothing but a sucker. Gamble how you want to gamble and enjoy whatever comes your way. Cruise how you want to cruise and enjoy whatever comes your way. Every time I read something like "we too that cruise so we could make diamond status", I shake my head in disbelief...

dln929 Posted July 24, 2014 #12 Share Posted July 24, 2014 We sail all three lines and I don't think the program will ever change from its present status because the price points are so different. I can assure you that a balcony on Azamara does not cost the same as a balcony on RCI so it's extremely unlikely that equal points would be given. However, Celebrity and Azamara points already do go into the same pot--they're combinable.
seaandsea Posted July 24, 2014 #13 Share Posted July 24, 2014 I like things the way they are. You can still cruise on one of the other lines, and be treated to the status you have earned.
Paulxyz2004 Posted July 24, 2014 #14 Share Posted July 24, 2014 Carnival, HAL, Princess, Cunard, Seabourn, Aida, Ibero Cruceros, P&O, P&O Australia, Costa - 10 cruiselines one parent Company. Should they have one loyalty Programme alltogether? I agree with others, I´m happy as it is and think it´s more than generous already to give recirpocal Status. I see no Need to Change it. reedprincess Posted July 24, 2014 #15 Share Posted July 24, 2014 Airlines have doe it for years - wonder why Royal Caribbean International has not learned from them in order to increase loyalty. Airlines allow you to accrue points for only one FF program per flight - you can't double dip. IE: when I fly BA, I earn points towards either my AA account OR my BA; the FF miles can be used on all OneWorld flights, but I don't earn points on both AA AND BA from the same single flight - you have to pick which account you want points on, and there is reciprocal status recognition....and yes, I can redeem on any of the airlines, but you can't double-dip, ie earn points on all of them with one flight - it's one or the other.....same with cruising. You earn points on the cruise line you sail with, with reciprocal status with the other lines in the company - but you can't double dip and earn points on both lines with one sailing. Now, if they chose to make just one program across all their lines (an dRCCL has 4.5 lines, not 3. Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Azamara, CDF Crosieres De France and 50% state in TUI Cruises). If they made ONE loyalty program across all the lines - that's different. But, as each company is different, has different priorities and offerings, etc - not gonna happen any time soon. Each line has it's own program, and offers reciprocal status across the lines - even that is very generous. And interesting idea that a cruise on any of the subsidiary companies should earn points for all of them. I wonder how that would work for, say, Carnival Cruise Line companies - would a cruise on Cunard automatically earn you points for Princess and for Holland American, etc? Nope - they are not the same company (even though the same parent company), and with Carnival lines, you don't even get reciprocal status as you do with Royal Caribbean lines. So, RCCL is a step above Carnival Corp, here also! As far as what the cruise line may "owe" loyal cruisers - absolutely nothing. They don't have to reward us at all. It is a perk, not a right. leisuretraveler223 Posted July 24, 2014 #16 Share Posted July 24, 2014 I think everyone should be awarded diamond status as soon as they've completed two cruises. Cruise four times and you're pinnacle! Let's see how that works out... Sounds like Celebrity's old program! You could make Elite (their very highest level at the time) in 4 cruises....crazy! You would have sailings on ships holding 2,000 guests, and over 1,000 would be Elite! It was definitely time for a revamp there. Edited July 24, 2014 by reedprincess

You would have sailings on ships holding 2,000 guests, and over 1,000 would be Elite! It was definitely time for a revamp there. So true. And even worse, before the revamp, some Elites complained the crowding was due to Royal reciprocity! I like both lines and I appreciate the loyalty benefits on both. As a shareholder as much as a cruiser, I'd like to see a reward for longstanding loyalty to the corporation with cruises on all lines counting (sort of an amalgamated Pinnacle with a different name, of course). I think that would encourage some cruisers to stick with the corporation's lines even as they age and as their needs and desires change.
