What do you do on your balcony ?

Using the jacuzzi type tub, especially at night when the moon is full and shining on the water as the ship slips along. One of my wifes favorite things to do is go out there late to just enjoy the hot water and tranquility of the space. Late evenings are our time since we let the rest of the family have the balcony all day and most of the night.

We also enjoy the kids of all ages bringing their new acquaintances onto the large balcony to talk or play music while taking turns in the jacuzzi. They love the privacy of their own area with the ability to still have large numbers on the balcony at the same time. It reminds us of having neighborhood kids in the house at all hours and the fun they are all having.

Apparently I need a lot more money so I can enjoy a balcony with a private jacuzzi :p

Seems like you really like the Freedom. I have been thinking about going on it. What is it you like about it?

Fabulous ship, closest to Atlanta, great casino. Windjammer not very good and don't get me started on the pizza.

We've only cruised twice - once with balcony once inside - definitely preferred balcony. I never thought to leave curtains open at night other than a tiny bit so we can see daylight creep in. I'm going to try this -I'm up and down all night so I might as well enjoy the beautiful view and sunrise. Thanks for the tip :D

Forget the curtains, weather permitting leave the door open all night, you can hear the ocean and we have yet to see a bug come in..

My husband said Twister is more fun with the board. ;)

In another group I am on I think we decided to call it Balcony Bingo! That is how we refer to it now....I have never played before but now that I know you can I think we are going to give it a try! Full card jackpot maybe:D

Omg, we have had a balcony and not sure I really want to get one again. Only time we were on it was when we first boarded and got into the cabin. Went out there to check it out and never returned.

We are never in the cabin but to sleep and shower and just don't go out there.

I would rather be on the top deck by the pool seeing the ocean and the over all view.

I'm surprised no one mentioned sun tanning. That's what friends do so I thought that was one of the primary reasons for choosing a balcony. They like the freedom of an overall tan. I won't be getting a tan in any form.

What do you love about your balcony in your cabin? When do you most appreciate it?

Or have you had a balcony in the past and "downgraded" in price to spend the extra on other things?

I love sitting out there in the morning with a cup of coffee watching the water passing by. It's nice to have a quiet place to have an afternoon drink with DW, or just to have a quiet place all to ourselves.

I love having a balcony. It's so nice to step out first thing in the morning to look at the ocean. I sit out there to watch us leave ports or before I go to dinner. I sit out there before bed and watch the moon. I've even hung my head over to dry my hair :) plus, it's so much better for my motion sickness.

I used to book inside cabins. I had more trouble with motion. I didn't wake up with natural light. I would have to have at least an OV.

We just sit and watch the scenery. On my sisters last cruise she said her neighbors got frisky and they could see everything in the reflection of their glass. They quietly went inside as to not disturb them. :)

I would have waited until the penultimate moment and then cheered;).

We had two littles who still needed the occasional nap or earlier bedtime, so we spent a lot of time on the balcony just enjoying the peace & quiet, read, kept them happy & quiet with breakfast/snacks while others were getting ready, etc.

We did have four older girls also sailing with us & they were happy with an interior since they spent most of their time in the kids or teen clubs. If they wanted to hang on a balcony, they just came across the hall :).

We have downgraded for our upcoming cruise since it's a go cheap or don't go deal, but I'm still holding out hope for an awesome price drop so I can upgrade!

We'll travel with two little ones in Dec. 1 and 4. Hope to get more advice from you! We booked our balcony too just in case we'll have to spend some nothing to do time while they take naps!

First two cruises were on NCL with a balcony each time. Will cruise RCCL Allure for 1st time at end of this month with a hump balcony - hoping for the same balcony experience! It means fewer cruises but a balcony has become a must for us....

All from our balcony:

Alaska: Glaciers, whales, bears, sunrise, sunset, hot chocolate, the cold, the warmth, the rush of the sea, the quiet of the sea, entering and leaving ports with just awesome views, chatting with our balcony neighbors.

Western Med: sunrise, sunset, amazing beautiful ports, passing ship lights in the night, starry, starry nights, the quiet of the sea, waking up and falling asleep to the sound of the sea, breakfast on the balcony, a place for quiet reflection and conversation after a busy port day.

Most beautiful post! I got goosebumps by reading it! So romantic! Looking forward for our cruise trip! Thank you!

I have been only on one cruise so far and had a balcony cabin. In addition to some things others already mentioned..I loved watching a flock of birds fly near our balcony when we were leaving coco cay and it was amazing watching those tiny birds in the ocean. One morning it was drizzling and I loved watching the rain drops falling in the ocean. It's the little things I don't normally pay attention to on land but sitting on a balcony, they were couple of my favorite moments.

Pete, you sound like a man I'd agree with. A balcony is a must to stand and watch as the ship arrives in port (without having to get fully dressed), to chill out when returning to ship, to sit and read a good book in peace and quiet.

I'm fascinated by watching the white of the waves when I return at some ungodly hour from the casino. Gives me a minute to reflect on winnings/losings before bed!!

We just got off the Caribbean Princess this morning. We loved our balcony in the early morning, being able to wake up and watch us sail into port. We also enjoyed it for drinks in the evening. DH spent a lot of time on it reading the books he brought. Our favorite experience, though, was doing the Ultimate Balcony Dinner that Princess offers. It was a treat. We celebrated our one year wedding anniversary with it. Two waiters delivered a special table for it, since the regular table is not really conducive to a full meal. We got cocktails of our choice, a floral arrangement to keep for the rest of the cruise, a bottle of wine, a selection of canapes, crab appetizer, salads, lobster and grilled shrimp, a fabulous chocolate dessert, and an assortment of miniature cookies. A photographer also came at the beginning to take several photos. We got to pick one included in the price and could have bought more.

Love coffee and a croissant on the balcony as we pull into a port.

In the afternoon it is a good place for a quiet read,\.

Before retiring at night I have a glass of wine, my kindle and a battery candle.

Coffee, OJ and chocolate croissant in the morning from room service.

Watching the sail in to a new port.

Watching pier runners!

Quality own time and space - reading, chatting, watching the world and ocean go by, thinking about things other than work.

Wildlife spotting - e.g.

Weather watching: sunrise, sunset, stargazing, shooting stars, thunderstorms.

Could never do an inside - it would remove a great chunk of the cruise experience.
