Relaxing Robbies Posted April 2 #5280 Share Posted April 2 2 hours ago, Esilef said: can you Work from home on a cruise ship? Asking for a friend……..🤔 It depends on where that cruise ship happens to be. Although cruise ship internet has improved, there are areas where not many satellites are focused and the internet is nearly nonexistent. The middle of the Pacific Ocean is one of those areas. You are lucky to get an email out, let alone trying to maintain a connection for a period of time.
Aus Traveller Posted April 2 #5281 Share Posted April 2 2 hours ago, Esilef said: can you Work from home on a cruise ship? Asking for a friend……..🤔 If the internet is good enough you possibly could. However, on previous trans Pacific cruises, I recall that there are a couple of areas where there wasn't any internet etc. available. This could have improved in the last few years. After all, we haven't cruised for two years. 😁

MicCanberra Posted April 2 #5283 Share Posted April 2 It really depends on the job, after all, the crew all manage to work while on the ship. 1 1
Obilix Posted April 3 #5284 Share Posted April 3 I don't know if this is el cheapo or not, but I'm interested in a relocation cruise in October 2023 from LA to Sydney, including Hawaii, Tahiti and New Zealand (27 days) for under $6000 for a balcony cabin on the Majestic Princess. Covid should be sorted by then. Of course there is the one way airfare to LA to consider .... Any contras to bear in mind?
Sparky74 Posted April 3 #5285 Share Posted April 3 I thought the days of cruising for $100/person/night were over but then I stumbled upon this deal. P&O X228N Barrier Reef Discovery Cruise Pacific Explorer 25/7/22 - 4/8/22 ex Sydney $699/person That’s $70/day! 😱

Interior cabin from $1,716pp on the Australian Carnival website. That’s less than $75/night! Man, I am so tempted to jump on that deal, but we have a Hawaii to Sydney cruise onboard RCI during that time.

Skype for Business/Teams meetings along with remote control access to computers, but yeah, I could. I work in IT support and just need a good, steady connection via VPN. As long as Carnival doesn't block Netscaler VPN connections, I'm in. I have thought about that even before the pandemic. My boss got us tablets/laptops with VPN accounts back in 2018. I'm half tempted to try this one time; take a cruise but "work from home". Red Frog Pub in the background on a Teams call, chomping on a Guy's burger 🍔 with a frosty ale 🍺 by my side. 😜

If you have VIFP you get it from $386 - who can resist that price even if it does have loads of sea days. Edited April 5 by Janet&Carl

Back in 2007 we did the same trans pacific journey from LA to Sydney on ye olde Regal Princess. Many sea days, love the sea days. These days there would be even more sea days due to several ports closed due to the lurgy. Edited April 5 by NSWP

That's an amazing price but it's not coming up for me with my VIFP number. In fact, when I looked last week to now, the price has shot up severely. Are you Platinum or Diamond status on Carnival's VIFP program? I'm only Gold so maybe I'm not getting the same deal. NSWP Posted April 5 #5295 Share Posted April 5 (edited) Is VIFP a cruise club or Carnival loyalty thingy? Just checked on Carnival site would be AU$5,050 for me as a solo in balcony cabin. Inside would be AU$3,400. Still a reasonable per diem price for a solo. $5050 for 35 days = $144 per diem. OR $97 per diem for inside, cheap as chips. Like Princess' Captain Circle and HAL's Mariner program. I haven't investigated the other programs too much but with Carnival's, you get things like free laundry and expedited boarding after achieving Platinum (75 days I think). Although one of my prices I got for Carnival a few weeks ago was unbelievably cheap. As mentioned, I'm only Gold (25 days+) Carnival probably looked at my onboard spending and noticed that I spend more on wining and dining than the actual cruise fare!
