Sauer-kraut Posted November 7, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 7, 2014 I can't wait to retire, and look at last minute fares....I'll have to move to a cruise port thought *sigh*
mugtech Posted November 8, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 8, 2014 Perhaps the price reflects that no one knows why the Celebrations ship got a gaping hole in it pulling out of the Bahamas. I will be happy to be retired and live three hours by bus from the NYC port.

Rare mitsugirly Posted November 8, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 8, 2014 They must have already sold a bunch of those because the price I see now for the cheapest category (IX) is $199. These cruises sound so good until you get all the way to the end. 2 people at $199=398 sound like a deal Get to the end and add ports charges and tax=$781 It no longer sounds good to me.

cruisin07family Posted November 8, 2014 #12 Share Posted November 8, 2014 I have to admit I looked and wondered why the taxes and port fees are more than the Breakaway's 7 day cruise for two of the same three ports. Seems odd....

Seems odd.... interesting... breakaway taxes/fees/port expenses for 7day bahama $135 gem 6day bahama $191  gem is even 1 less port Edited November 8, 2014 by fstuff1
njhorseman Posted November 8, 2014 #14 Share Posted November 8, 2014 I have to admit I looked and wondered why the taxes and port fees are more than the Breakaway's 7 day cruise for two of the same three ports. Seems odd.... Because many of the taxes and fees are assessed on a per ship basis, not per passenger, and the Breakaway has many more passengers to spread those taxes/fees over. fstuff1 Posted November 8, 2014 Author #16 Share Posted November 8, 2014 it's 10% obc or 3 dinners for 2 (steakhouse, French, and Italian). you would normally pay $130 total for those 3 dinners.

But if you and your roommate are platinum you already get 2 free specialty restaurants for two anyway. If you're a CAS player you usually get one specialty restaurants for 2 as well. For me, that would already be 3 total. And truth be told.....sometimes I like to eat at the MDR or the 24 hour restaurant or the a la carte restaurant.
