Room Service No Longer Free - NCL Starts $7.95 Charge Per Order

What I and many will now do is go to the buffet breakfast and load up trays with pastries and drinks to take back to the room, until they ban that too. Get ready for hallways of spilled drinks and food.

No trays in the buffet - need to pack your own (or pay $7.95 to 'rent' one from room service:eek:).

I question the huge amount the OP said they are charging. That amount truly does not make sense to me. I think if they were imposing a charge, it would be less to start with, not start with $7.95;)

I know people don't read the threads when they get long, but OP did post an image. It's blurry, but pretty clear to me that it says:

"A $7.95 convenience charge will be applied to your check."

#‎ChargingforroomServicelikeaGreedyNorwegian‬! Come on NCL - you can do better! We cruise so we don't have to get 2 small kids up and dressed and can relax on the balcony with breakfast. $7.95 per day now on top of 18$ gratuities for specialty dining???? Guess I will do my own "adjustment" of the service charge for the 2 kids now that I am BUYING breakfast and tidying up after them MYSELF!

What trays? Room service delivery has the trays, buffet doesn't; just heavy plates thst hard to lift with one hand if its loaded up too much. If you want alot of coffee, you have to bring your own travel mug that spillproof because the cups are tiny and walk back can be long....

If distilled water is ordered from room service (as it is on other lines), and there is already a $4.00 charge for that, will it now cost $12.00 for a bottle of distilled water?!?

We're booked for the Pearl in the fall, and we WERE looking forward to coming back to NCL after a 6 year absence, but now I'm really questioning that decision. It seems that an awful lot has changed in the time since we last cruised with them, and most of it is not for the better.

I sincerely hope that our on board experience doesn't reflect the general dissatisfaction we've witnessed here on the CC boards lately, and that we'll find the NCL product still worth it... but I've got my doubts. :(

Since we are going on the Breakaway in June and I plan on ordering room service for every breakfast, I figured (since it's 9am now and NCL is "open") that I would call.

Spoke with an "Anthony" and he said it's not true. Told him what I am reading here on CC and asked him to double check with his supervisor. "Carmen" also said no, it's not true. The only charge is between midnight and 5am for room service.

NCL ops and supervisors are notorious for being the last to know..

If that menu up above is photoshopped, it's been done pretty well. I don't see any pixelation beyond the blurriness of the rest of the picture and the menu itself is curved because it's being held by a hand, and the wording is curved to match it (which is difficult to do). I'm not saying it's not possible it's a fake, but if it is OP went to a LOT of trouble to make it. Also the call center is notoriously wrong especially about recent changes, but hopefully they're right on this one I guess.

Don't worry. According to the NCL cheerleaders, absolutely nobody is considering moving to another line because of these recent changes. In fact, NCL is doing a fantastic job, according to the cheerleaders! Great job, NCL!

The phone reps are usually the last to know about any changes - I would suggest that the photo evidence is quite persuasive.

My only thought is that the "A $7.95 convenience charge will be applied to your check." statement could mean that it is only added to the paid for items (I know - fat chance).

So lets get it right

Since my February 2015 cruise

the following has happened

ROOM SERVICE

Has increased from FREE to $7.95 a delivery

DRINKS

have increased in price. 14% for my tipple

DRINKS SERVICE CHARGE

Has increase from 15% to 18 %

SPECIALIST DINING

Has now 18% added to the bill

DSC

has been increased

What else?

these increases on there own are not much but when lumped together add a great deal.

i intend to enjoy my next cruise, in April to the same same level as the last.

We use RS, Drink and use the Specialist dining

The increase of my Onboard spend will determine if i will book NCL for my next cruise.

NCL certainly no how to upset there customers

j

Apparently only one free meal Platinum per cabin not per guest if both Platinum.

Also two weeks ago the platinum chocolates gifts had reduced from a 8-12 chocolate box to a small box of 4!

Also forgot to add that on the UK site, but not yet? on the US site that Platinum perk now only includes one free specialty meal voucher PER CABIN.

I called NCL and they reacted like I was rather stupid and ill informed. They claimed no increase had gone into effect, but I also agree with others that these operators may be the last to know.

I don't care personally, but we invited friends on our sailing next month. One of them has some medical needs and would likely be spending a lot of time in the cabin ordering room service. I feel like I am personally disappointing them even though it wasn't my decision.

We will all be interested in hearing from more people.

What additional charges will crop between now and my October cruise? What additional charges will crop up between then and December 2016 cruise? I specifically picked the Escape for next year due to the advertised included kids nursery. Wonder how much NCL is going to put me over a barrel for on that one now? I'm sure they will. Still lots of time to cancel.

Oh, no no... the 5,000+ Club is NEVER wrong...

There are some posting here saying they are going to go to another line. Saying it and doing it are two different things. If you can find a better and cheaper deal elsewhere, why not go now, that would send a huge message to NCL if thousands do it. But guess what, no one has left yet.

All this talk and it hasn't changed a thing. NCL know exactly what they are doing. I'm staying with them!

If they left NCL, canceled current cruises, you would think they would leave here and not post anymore as it would be moot point for them. They are all still here. There is no "groundswell" of anger/complaints and I would venture the majority of cruisers going on NCL don't even know about this. And again, to quote you, what has changed? Did NCL cancel the 18%, all are of the ones making threats to leave gone? Of course not. There will be another "crisis" in a week or two and everyone can get in another tizzy! [...snip...] For anyone from NCL reading this, keep up the good work. Many of us are still with you.

Very well said. I would bet that the majority that say they are leaving, will be staying with NCL and except the changes in the end.
