I hope they are going to use some of the $7.95 to hire someone to update their website! Still says included as of this morning.

Seems to me if you entered into a contract and paid for your cruise and the switch came after they would need to honor the old free system.

Oh well we are sailing in 6 days and looks like we will get extra exercise heading up

To bring food back to the room!

Yes it's "free," but you're forgetting "shipping and handling"

My normal room service is 2 large pots of coffee and whole milk. If this true, my new order will be 4 pots of coffee, a BLT, pastries., a club sandwich, a burger, some fries, hell I might just order 1 of everything on the menu. If you want to charge me another BS fee, I will make it worth my while. When the food costs triple for them maybe they will rethink these trumped up charges. I wonder what else DelRio does all day besides thinking of new ways to open peoples wallets. That man is really just out of control. I can only imagine what Kevin is thinking as he watches this man destroy what it took Kevin years to build.

Seems to me DelRio wasn't happy just destroying 1 company, now he wants to do the same to NCL.

BTW, I will then clean out 2 pots and leave them in the cabinet for the rest of the week and I will just go get my coffee myself.

Don't forget to keep the tray.

One of my favorite things is to sit on the balcony with a cup of coffee b4 starting my day. Not going to do it at $8.00 a day - will do it 1 time for the pots & tray... Thanks for the idea ;)

hmmm...Is there an 18% grat charge on top of that?

What do you want to bet, the website will be updated today or tomorrow? There is a reason the charge went into effect on Sunday, but didn't appear until after that. I don't think we can consider a charge for room service part of the contract. If this was the case, NCL would have stated, starting such and such. They are not going to open themsleves to a huge law suit. Of course, we all have to remember no one is forced to order room service. Like others, I hope the company comes on CC to explain or try to explain. And I am glad we are not room serive users.

The buffet is just fine. We will get whatever we need, we are early risers anyway. I also think I will ask our cabin steward to leave us an extra package of coffee each morning.

I think this get's into the realm of being able to dispute charges on a credit card. All of us who paid for our cruises at a time when it was listed that room service is included in what we paid (which is still listed on the website as of today) should be able to dispute at least hte charges paid for room service. Further, I will be reporting them to the BBB, again if true. It's one thing to raise gratuities on an optional ship service, (and the increase in the DSC i also still technically optional). it's another entirely to impose a fee for a service that is supposed to be included in the ticket price already paid by a customer. That's a fraudulent business practice, and it is absolutely bait and switch.

Another thought ncl 18% is too much of a gratuity fir bar service i will remove it from all of my bar bills and then give CASH to the bartender as much as i want.if you auto bill it no problem last night of the cruise i will head to gurst services and remove ALL the auto gratuities because i Can do this...so sad ncl such a pity that you made us all so angry and not loyal to you anymore..just like it was posted earlier march 2015 is going to be on the history books for royal ncl fans

Actually, if this is true I would encourage everybody who paid at a time when the website advertised free room service as being included in the cruise fare to file a complaint with both the Better Business Bureau and their state's Attorney General's Office. Even though its a small amount of money, if enough people complain action might be taken.

Agreed! A change in drink charges. Not a issue. A charge for something that was "Included" when you booked seems to be wrong.

What if next week there was a $10 charge for all meals on MDR?

I really don't see a difference between that and this.

I am also aware that Del Rio does not consider CCL to be competition, but there appear to be many who would sail with CCL just as easily as with NCL.

All mass market lines are competition. To disregard this fact is dillusional.

With this upcharge for room service you can bet that staterooms located near the buffet will become extremely popular and they will soon command a premium price.

I wonder if this refers to "all" room service or if perhaps its just going up on the 12am to 5am calls. I know there is already an additional charge for these hours, and am wondering if they are just increasing this charge?

If this new charge is 7.95 per order, think of the surprise they will get when our family with 3 cabins all side by side make one single order, and leave NO tip. If indeed I am going to pay for this.....its up to NCL to cover the cost of the tip out of their INCREASED DSC. And for those who will say "you shouldn't penalize the server " for what NCL is doing.......My response is NCL shouldn't penalize ME for what NCL is doing.

I might...might could swallow this increase if I had not already made deposits on 5 cruises. But to do it after the fact!! It's true I can't do anything about the increase but I can darn sure make it as beneficial to me (3 orders only a single 7.95 charge and no tip) as NCL is making it beneficial to them.

Hoping someone in a PH suite or Haven suite will jump in and let us know if this new charge applies there as well. I am going to be seriously not happy if I will be charged $7.95 each time my butler (who will be tipped separately and at the end of the cruise) brings me breakfast, lunch, etc. Does this $7.95 charge also apply if we are having specialty dinners delivered to our suite (since we are already paying the appropriate cover charge I would think not but who knows now!)?

You and Sundercruiser, I never thought about it that way. I was thinking more in terms of just not ordering period. People come in from a night of partying or whatever, decide to order room service, it arrives, they decide they are too tired and they just waste the food. I was thinking, many people would just forget room service if they had to pay. The same with an early order, I hadn't thought about them ordering enough for the rest of the day for snacking and then just wasting it.

Sparks, do you honestly think other lines are not going to follow NCL? They sure have on everything else. Auto tipping or DSC, whatever you want to call it was started by NCL I believe or they were one of the earliest to hop on board.

The other cruise lines may follow, only time will tell. But for right now it's only NCL. The other cruise lines have followed when it added value for the customer. An extra fee for room service doesn't add value, even if they enhance the menu.

This will make a big difference for us. We have room service breakfast on our balcony every morning, and completely love having coffee and pastries in the ocean air. Definitely do not want to take a shower and go to the buffet just to bring something back to our balcony.

Then don't take a shower! problem solved

A $7.95 fee is to much IMO. Either charge for the food (like a hotel) and make it worth that charge or don't but don't add a fee for something that's free in the Lido. I agree with those who suggest this is an attempt to perhaps do away with it so staff can be overburdened doing other tasks.

Hmmm... was on the Jade 3/11 and had to ask for room service menus (we got the normal breakfast cards but the actual menu was just a print out off a computer). Wonder if this is related and they were working on switching out the menus or just a fluke.

Did you have a good time on Jade; I will be on her in May.

This a big boohoo as i let my son sleep in the morning and I enjoy a cup of coffee with danish on the balcony ....i guess that will not happen at 8$ extra per day .Already spe ialty restaurants seem to be a must for good food ...the other venues are very hohum

I am now wondering when we pay for our cruise what are we payong for if everything is starting to be extra ....it mkes the cruise that much more when you add it up .Cruiselines will need to change that and go back to an almost all inclusive mode to keep customers

I think Del Rio wants to bring NCL to Oceania pricing .its not cheap but does include a lot of stuff if you can get it like internet and tips ..they offer these when sailings are not full but make no mistake Oceania is in the thousands for a cruise ......start adding up tipsinternet extra restaurant 18%tip added you are piling an extra couple of hundreds or thousands per cruise ....it makes the whole thing very pricy .

Oh NCL do not go there ....you are going to kill cruising

I have been on many ncl cruises and currently booked on Getaway this summer. We are coming up to our cancelation date and considering cancelling Ncl and going with another cruise line. Tired of all these changes...increased gratuties...charge for room service!....etc. we were on Rccl and Carnival last year and had a great time without hidden expenses.

If this is an early April Fools Joke it is so not funny !!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it is a joke the OP should be made to walk the plank

I question the huge amount the OP said they are charging. That amount truly does not make sense to me. I think if they were imposing a charge, it would be less to start with, not start with $7.95;)

So lets get it right

Since my February 2015 cruise

the following has happened

ROOM SERVICE

Has increased from FREE to $7.95 a delivery

DRINKS

have increased in price. 14% for my tipple

DRINKS SERVICE CHARGE

Has increase from 15% to 18 %

SPECIALIST DINING

Has now 18% added to the bill

DSC

has been increased

What else?

these increases on there own are not much but when lumped together add a great deal.

i intend to enjoy my next cruise, in April to the same same level as the last.

We use RS, Drink and use the Specialist dining

The increase of my Onboard spend will determine if i will book NCL for my next cruise.

NCL certainly no how to upset there customers

What I and many will now do is go to the buffet breakfast and load up trays with pastries and drinks to take back to the room, until they ban that too. Get ready for hallways of spilled drinks and food.
