Beverage Package Pricing Increase

Recommended Posts

Where is that $11.80 per day number coming from? The drink packages are at least $50-$60 per day. If you think you got it for free, you're delusional. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Cruise lines are making cutbacks because they are making enough money, and they are going to give you unlimited free drinks? Why don't they give them for transatlantics? See what happens if there is a price decrease on your cruise and the new promo has no percs. Unless you get lucky and talk to someone who is completely incompentant at the cruise line, you'll have to give up some/all your percs to get the lower price. Why? weren't the percs free?

P.T. Barnum had a saying that covers this, it escapes me at the moment.

I paid $1,619 for an 1A last year on our Hawaii cruise with the drink package. Friends who booked later paid $2,300 for a 2B with no drink package. Please explain to me how my drink package wasn't free? The price I paid was the lowest that cabin was offered for even after final payment.

I believe ole P.T. said, "there's a sucker born every minute." However, there are many, including his biographer, who actually do not believe P.T. Barnum would have said such a thing. Moving on from quotable quotes:

DH and I look at all cruise pricing based on a per person/per day NET charge. Only items that are of tangible value to us go into the net charge calculation. The drink package, when offered, is of tangible value to us and therefore we use it in the calculation. If it is of no value to you, then don't use it! A balcony matters to us, so we choose to calculate based on a mid-range balcony price. Blue DOES NOT matter to us, so we don't make a calculation based on an aqua class stateroom. No need to worry about who should or shouldn't consider the drink package-just keep it simple and use what matters to you to decide if a cruise is worth it.

The only delusional folks, and the only "suckers" are those who have not done their homework regarding prices.

I purchased my cruise at almost the lowest it was (by about $100), and the lower price included NO perks. I have free grats, the beverage package, and a tidy amount of OBC.

Like it or not, our beverage package actually was free considering the net price I paid for our cruise.

So there may be a sucker born every minute, but YOU may have to look in a mirror to find one.

There aren't any suckers over here :D

I am fairly certain that for the Premium package the limit was increased for spirits to $13 from $12 and the price of the package did not increase. But it did go up some time before the limit change.

No - the wines by the glass list was depleted and the price remained . Now the price has increased and once again the list is adjusted accordingly - I.E made less in value for those who have purchased the beverage packages.

I agree, there are deals out there you just have to look for then...

We have 3 celebrity cruises booked with the 123 promo and got all 3 perks along with obc from our agent! [emoji16] all 3 cruises are now more expensive and are only available with one perk so with the price difference and the extra perks I got before they really are great deals... [emoji41] even the price before the PYP came out was higher then we paid on all 3 cruises so for us and the money we paid I do feel we got the drinks package for FREE and we will enjoy every bit of it! Can a beverage package be upgraded on line or do you have to call? I was looking last night and only saw full packages offered. We have the Classic from 123go and want to upgrade to Premium.

Marc

Marc -- The website only allows you to purchase full packages (not upgrades). If you want to upgrade your included Classic package to Premium, you can call Celebrity at 1-844-418-6824 and pay the upgrade via credit card or you can purchase the upgrade onboard the ship. Either way, upgrading from a free-promo Classic package to Premium will cost $10 per day plus 18% gratuity. I just called to book the upgrade for our 7-night Alaska cruise; the upgrade price with gratuity came to $86.60 (per person).

I have to say, I love that Celebrity doesn't require both guests to book the same package; my hubby is happy with his Jack-and-Cokes, while I'm partial to the Molecular Bar and Martini Bar cocktails. Even if you were to order just one of those premium cocktails per day, the $10 upgrade cost pays for itself.

Happy sailing!

You will never know if someone got a lower price after final payment when X is trying to fill up the unsold cabins. I'm aware of "give away" prices at the last minute.

How does one find out about "give away" prices? I assume they have a travel agent that alerts them?

Hello Celebrity. Thanks for taking an active roll. I just got off the phone with Celebrity call center in Miami and their story is different. The gentleman told me that after teh 20th it would be a $16 upgrade. I mentioned what you said here, and he put me on hold. I waited for 11 minutes and gave up. It is very frustrating when different parts of the company are giving different answers. Thanks again for all of your help.

:confused:

Whatever happened with this?:confused:

We sail early May so to avoid headaches on vacation I upgraded via the phone yesterday. I plan on cashing out the $300 obc in the casino and using it as spending money in port. Just pay the 5% fee and call it a day.

Dear Official Celebrity Rep,

As many, I appreciate your patience in responding to this 'super' thread. :)

On our cruise in June, I intend on using OBC to upgrade our classic beverage package of our 123 promo received for booking our balcony as you have reaffirmed in both post #286 and #582. I will take a printout of your post if necessary but feel sure by then that guest services will know how to deal with the upgrade, but have you assigned any final "by.... 201..." date to this promise of keeping our upgrade to $10 plus gratuity?? I'm sure that would be a comfort to all to avoid guess work about anything vague in your response.

Thanks very much. I have good faith in your customer relations after a few visits about charges for drinks on our last cruise despite having a beverage package from day one........ they were lovely and it was painless to have corrected. I just want to go knowing the promise won't expire when aboard the next and there will be no unexpected confrontation.

I can't find this question anywhere by searching the forums. Does anyone know what the price of one can of soda costs?

Thanks!

Mary Anne

ON the Equinox in Mar 2015 it was $2.50 + 18% a can. I don't know if that is fleet wide. Maybe someone else can help?

Im confused about all of this. I sail on the 16th August 15. I have no drinks package purchased yet. Should I do that now rather than wait until closer my sail date?! Does it need to be booked before the end of April? Is that what this thread is about? All prices and services charges going up after that?

I received no e mail/ information from Celebrity about this.

Hi all,

I wanted to share some news that we just received regarding our beverage packages.

Beginning on April 6, 2015 for all sailings beginning on or after that date, we will be raising most of our beverage package prices onboard. *From April 6, 2016 - April 19, 2015, our current prices will remain pre-cruise, thereby giving a "pre-cruise pricing advantage." *As of April 20, 2015, however, the pre-cruise prices will be raised to match the onboard prices.

The following changes will be:

  • Soda Package $8.00 --> $9.00
  • Premium Water Package $14.00 --> $16.00
  • Classic N/A Beverage Package $16.00 --> $18.00
  • Premium N/A Beverage Package $20.00 --> $22.00
  • Classic Beverage Package $49.00 --> $55.00
  • Premium Beverage Package $59.00 --> $65.00

Please note that the same beverages will still be available under each package, and that no drinks will be removed from any of these packages. The prices also do not include the 18% gratuity. Lastly, the wine package pricing will not be changing.

As of April 20th the increase is effective.
