I think a lot of the negativity comes from people always trying to find a way to blame NCL and considering this thread some people still want to find a way to blame NCL when it was the incompetence of these two adults for missing the boat.

Although it has never happened to us I have seen it many times in many ports. I think the worst of it most people have their money, CC and important stuff on the ship so finding your way home could be a challenge.

 

That's why you should make sure you're back on the boat on time. I don't feel sorry for them. I would if it was due to an traffic accident or something beyond their control, but this was totally within their control

Our legal system classifies alcohol addiction as a disease. Would you make the same comments if the people suffered seizures or any other debilitating disease that prevented them from getting to the ship ??

Can't fault the people- I heard the pirate ship bar (Calico Jack's) has really good Happy Hour specials starting at 3PM!!!

We nearly missed the ship in Lisbon. We were on a private trip, had asked the people organising it to be back at 4pm, one hour before the ship left. Neither of us were wearing watches ( something we will NEVER do again), the trip was late back, we had to run for the gangway, much to the amusement of the balcony watchers.

Was that our fault, possibly, but we trusted the organisers to get us back at the time we asked!

So to all those who were hard on the ladies, please don't be unless you know the circumstances of the delay.

There is always the chance it will happen to you!

 

This is an excuse. What do you have against wearing watches? And if you have to ask a tour guide to come back early so you can catch the ship, then you didn't plan properly in the first place.

Okay, if I'm reading this correctly the girls were late and partying at Calico Jacks. Mom got off the ship to go get them. NCL knows that Mom has gotten off the ship to get them (an assumption, I know) but, why would they then allow her to leave knowing that the ship is fixing to leave? And then leaves them anyway. I really wish I could put all the blame on the girls. They had no business not keeping track of time and were completely in the wrong on that score. But it sounds like NCL was fully Mom had gone to get them. Am I missing something here? I am not trying to put the full blame on NCL by ANY means, but, come on.

 

No ship can prevent you from getting off the ship even if they know it means leaving you behind.

I do not understand the people who are saying cold hearted, heartless etc.

 

There are phone number for the ship as well as the port agent posted in the dailies, call the ship, who know maybe they would wait.

 

If I have a plane that is supposed to leave at 9:00, do you think it is cold to leave at 9:00 if people are late? How long is reasonable to wait? Should others be inconvenienced? Maybe I wanted to stay at the bar or the beach longer, why should I have to be back and not others?

 

The time to leave is the time to leave period, you had 3 days to figure out how to get back to the ship on time. I know if I am told be back by 3, i figure in my head to be back by 2:30 to pad the time a bit. We are all adults and need to take responsibility as adults. The word responsibility seems to have lost its meaning in the past few years.

If you really believe that the girls were under the impression that they did not have to worry about missing the ship, and that a cruise ship officer would escort them back, then I have a bridge to sell you!

I have no idea what you're talking about, because this has nothing to do with me. It's been established that the two young women were still in a bar when they should have already walked out and made their way back to their ship. Since they were in a bar, it's possible that they did not leave because they were too drunk to tell time or to care if they were left behind. I still maintain that it's possible that one of their friends was on the cruise where an officer of the ship made a visit to Senor Frog's after the ship was supposed to have left to plead with the passengers to pretty please leave the bar and head to the ship. Since that is not impossible, I think that it's possible that the young women thought that that's what goes on with cruises, and they didn't have to worry about being left behind.

 

It's very possible that the hundreds of drinkers at Senor Frog's think that that happens all the time, especially if it was their first cruise, and they think that it's ship's policy to go out and round up the drinkers.

 

FWIW I have never thought this was a ship's policy, and I was quite surprised to find out that this happened with the Celebrity ship.

Really now.......the girls might of had a friend who was on a Celebrity cruise and heard that on the Celebrity ship an officer went to Senior Frogs to beg passengers to leave the bar. That is so ridiculous that I passed on commenting the first time you posted it. None would expect the ship to send officers to bars to roust out ships passengers.

That is so right.

I was on NCL Dawn the time a couple of parents missed the last ferry from St. George.

 

They called the ship as their kids were on the ship in the kids club.

 

The Captain did wait 45 minutes for them.

 

The Old precedent WAS if ship was notified they did wait.

Especially with all the transportation issues Bermuda has had for a few years now.

 

One can only guess when the union will call a meeting and shut down the island at a moments notice. :rolleyes:

 

And lets not forget these three were only 100 yards from the ship.

 

The new regime is here and it appears to have a hard nose.

Fact is, I have never missed the boat. I have missed my share of planes, but usually not my fault.

 

If I didn't turn up to the boat on time it is because the ship hit the fan. There was an accident or I'm in jail or something. Way bigger problems than the boat.

 

Years ago on RCI, my family - without me - was on a private excursion in Belize. The bus was in an accident and my mom called the ship and told them she was trying to get a cab but there were a lot of people trying. The ship sent a van and waited for their return. They announced the situation on the boat and said that they were going to wait. As a pax, I wouldn't mind being delayed by such circumstances.

Some people just don't get responsibility anymore these days. Everything has to be the fault of others and never on yourself. Incredible.

Because they forgot one of pitfalls of cruising is time management and getting back to ship before it leaves you. But of course, its the cruise line fault completely for not waiting at 7pm when the ship was suppose to leave port at 3pm.[emoji57]

1)This did not happen on Celebrity and 2) did not involve hundreds of passengers that couldn't find their way because they were drunken idiots - it happen on NCL Breakaway and it was just 2, not hundred or hundreds, but just 2 drunken idiots and their mother. BIG DIFFERENCE!!

We were on the 8/9 sailing. Nobody missed the ship that trip, that we could tell. Called 3 names, saw people (3) running down dock, boarded, and they pulled in the gang plank. We watched the dock till it couldn't be seen anymore. If passengers missed the ship, they were extremely extremely late.

Doesn't matter the time was announced, posted, and handed out in dailies. Not NCL's fault at all.

 

Airlines change their times all the time and send notifications to their customers. Smart travelers check their flights or cruises for the times they leave a day or two before going. It's not up to the cruise line or the airline to make you read or check the status of departure. That's all on you.

Nope 2 kids swimming off a boat next to the ship that would not wait 5 min. for a mother to help her kids . This is not the way thing have been done in Bermuda. I'M prurdy sure order from Miami forced this, I would be surprised if it was the Captains choice .

I don't understand the people who are putting blame in NCL. We are talking about two adults who were sitting in a bar. They didn't have car trouble, they weren't on a ferry which was running late.....they were in a bar a few hundred feet from the ship. If your that dumb you deserve what you get. When my wife and I step off a ship for a day in port we know exactly when to be back.

And at this point, aren't there already 30 minutes late, as all aboard is 30 minutes before departure time? So you are saying wait 35 minutes. What about 40 minutes, 45 minutes? At what point is to acceptable to leave people? Or should a boat just hang out forever until everyone is on board???
