Cheers drink card? Yah or nay?

It's $50/day, which depending on what you drink is 6-9 drinks a day. (Yes, I know grat is on top of the prices, but it is for drinks anyway. I'm using base prices to avoid complicating the math.) I drink things that are in the 8+ range, so I find it works out to 6 drinks. I can get that many even on port days and I barely drink at home but really enjoy just relaxing on board with good wine or delicious mixed drinks from Alchemy or just frozen concoctions sometimes. We figured 42-45 drinks per cruise = break even if no beer (more if you drink a lot of the cheap beer; we don't, as they don't offer much that's good, but Cheers is the only way we even bother with beer since it's "included").

I like Cheers because otherwise I'm watching S&S, feeling like I want that drink that's $2 less just because it's "good enough" (even if not what I really want), and because we either break even or come out ahead. But mainly it's a combination of the peace of mind and knowing I can try a few things without feeling like it was a ripoff if I don't drink something I don't like/am not in the mood for anymore. Almost nothing I want is over the $10 limit so it includes everything I'd order anyway.

On land, 90% of the time, I don't drink at all btw, so you don't have to be a crazy drunk to enjoy drinking a fair amount on a cruise. :)

It's $57.44 a day including the tip.

It depends on your drinking habits. My cruises are over 10 days and I don't care to drink alcohol every day, so for me it's not worth it. On some sea days, I may have 4-6, and then the next day a martini before dinner and that's it.

Are you going to drink that many every day to make it worth while. Only you can decide that.

Many have no problem drinking every day and some have said they were pretty sick of alcohol by the 4-5 day.

For as many here think it's worth it, just as many it isn't worth it for them.

VERY well said! I drink only on vacation so it doesn't take much until I'm over it. I was considering the CHEERS program on my last cruise but I'm glad I didn't spring, I ended up only spending half of what it would have cost me, even including an additional 5% in tipping and purchasing a few drinks for someone else!

We have had Cheers twice, and will have it for the 3rd time in January. If you drink 6-8 drinks per day, you will break even. Many times we reached 12+. A mimosa at brunch, a DoD or 2 during the day, a cocktail at dinner, some drinks in the evening, it's very easy to at least break even, if not come out on top. Not to mention that Cheers includes Bottomless Bubbles so if you're a pop drinker, or you want something like a rum and coke, that will get you to your break even point even faster. We absolutely think that Cheers is 100% worth it. It also includes gratuity, but we always tip above and beyond if the service is particularly good.

Nay for us this time!

We had it on our last cruise and really liked it but our next cruise is 15 days long so we will not get it. Not sure if we will drink enough drinks every day and the cost for 15 days = sticker shock!

Also they have started including the Drinks on Me from the casino in the total drinks with Cheers. We usually get free drinks in the casino on the 2nd or 3rd day so it seems silly to pay for Cheers.

That's a load of b.s.!

Remember too, OP, that it's 6-7 drinks for EACH of you per day. DW doesn't drink that much so we skip it. I do like the no-worries attitude because I am also a S&S watcher if it isn't prepaid.

I had it on our last cruise and I didn't break even - some days I may have had 6 or 7 drinks, but then other days I only had 3-4. BUT, if $$ wasn't an issue, I would still get Cheers again just because it was nice to lay around the pool and order anything I wanted. That was my problem, I'd order 3 drinks at the adult pool bar - I'm convinced the bartender was "talking care of me" and I was tipping over the 15% included. Well, after 3 drinks (this happened on 2 different days) I was pretty much feeling too good to drink that evening if you know what I mean??

Of course, if I could get another bartender to take care of me, I would still be able to order anything I wanted and be good with 3 - 4 drinks a day (lol)

We like to drink, and had actually worried if the 15 drink limit would be to few. But we ordered it anyway. This was this past week and here's our breakdown.

These totals are for two people, so 30 drinks a day limit.

Day 1 - 22

day 2 - 15

Day 3- 25

Day 4 - 18

Day 5- 19

Day 6 - 20

Day 7 - 27

Total drinks 146

If you average $8.00 a drink that comes to $1,168, we paid $804

What I really liked about cheers is not having to worry abut your S&S card. Also love been able to try different drinks, If we didn't like it, no big deal.

The bartenders give you the best liquor option within cheers. For example I ordered a Gin and Tonic, and they asked me what kind of Gin I wanted. I said I didn't care, they looked at my card seen I had Cheers and said they would give me Bombay sapphire. My wife was drinking Vodka and was given Grey Goose every time.

The casino card is only good when you're playing in the casino. Cheers is good all over the ship.

That's exactly why we get it every time. We have about 8-10 drinks per day when on vacation, get premium and I even get a couple of martinis before dinner, so it's very much worth it to us.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, if I only drink 10, my DH could have 20 and it wouldn't be frowned upon? He definitely drinks more than I do. :p Honestly, that is the only way it would be worth it for us.

In theory yes, you would just have to be careful as it is against the rules.

For us, no it is not worth it. We drink beer and our next cruise is 21 days. So:

$57.44 x 2 = $114.88 a day

$114.88 x 21 = $2412.48 :eek::eek:

There is no way we could get our moneys worth. Especially with 15 port days.

Much cheaper for us to have several beers in port.

I could go on another cruise for that price!!!

If you're spending enough time in the casino to earn the drinks on us Card by the third day you are spending enough time in there to get plenty of drinks!

I would love to get the Cheers but my DW only has 1 to 2 drinks a day. We also do not drink soda so its better for us to just pay as you go.

All these things you have to consider when purchasing the Cheers program. I really wish they would tweak the rules on the "everyone over 21 must buy Cheers in the cabin" but I understand from a business aspect it would be impossible to keep people from cheating the system.

First I have to say I am not an alcoholic as maybe somebody may imply reading what I have to say...I like my cocktails on a vacation and I live with serious health issues and alcohol is the only thing (yes its true) that helps with my pains, maybe numbs the pain a little hehe. And I always was worried reaching the 15 limit only never got to 15 ever and we cruise a lot. Even if you reach 15, if you think about it its not that much we wake up at 9:30 and go to sleep around 2am or a bit later, so that is 16 hours wake time, even if we hit 15 drinks in all those hours, we never even tipsy ever! With this being said.....

If you drink beer its not worth it, you will go over the 15 limit and unable to get more

If you get the drinks on us card which my other half always does, now they have a new rule, the drinks you get from that card are now applied to the amount of drinks to your Cheers program plus you only can get a drink in the casino and sometimes you wait awhile for that drink, and you can be loosing at that slot or table.....

If you drink 7 drinks, its worth it

I also like the Cheers package so I don't have to keep tabs on the bills/charges, sometimes mistakes do happen on the room charge, but having the Cheers program you won't have to worry about this issue

The problem with the Cheers program is you count the drinks you have making sure you don't exceed the 15 lol (Carival is the only cruise line that sets a limit, another reason why I prefer RC over to Carnival, I don't have to worry about how many drinks I get lol)

For us, we save big time getting the Cheers program We have many times reached 13 drinks each (again remember we are up for 16 hours) so yes, its worth it to us, we never go on a cruise and not get it.

If the cruise is 14 days or longer, not sure what we would do because I don't think I could drink that way longer than 9 days lol.
