Norwegian left a mom behind with her kids on board

I think we can afford her a little compassion.

I reserve compassion for those who (through little or no fault of their own) find themself in dire circumstances.

Those who knowingly do wrong then find themself in a dire circumstance do not receive compassion nor sympathy from me even when they drop to their knees and beg in an overly dramatic fashion.

Not only the mom but the dad too. He should have left her and stayed with his kids.

But do we know if he knew her whereabouts? What if she was in an accident and taken to the hospital? Then the headlines would be much different, Husband Leaves Wife to Die While Enjoying a Cruise.

She can have her compassion after she apologizes to NCL and everyone onboard.

She doesn't owe any passengers (Except her family) an apology. I don't see how she had a negative impact on anyone else enjoying their cruise. The Breakaway will sail into New York as scheduled (Unless it has mechanical issues or runs into a storm).

NCL is a different story, and they will probably hit her up for any additional fees they incurred because of her running late.

I am amazed by the sheer numbers of perfect people on this board, that have never, ever in their entire life did something boneheaded.

Yikes. Did you guys see the video of the Norwegian ship that left the mom behind on the dock with her three kids still on board? It happened April 21 in the Bahamas.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/mom-cries-dock-cruise-ship-204400580.html

Maybe you should change the title of your thread to "Irresponsible mother misses ship while her children sail away without her."

Generally, the cruise line will help with arrangements (board and transportation) but the cruise line won't help to pay for either.

Has it been confirmed that NCL paid for anything?

NCL will not pay anything.

The try to help with travel arrangment trough the Port Agent in Nassau but they won't pay for anything.

Why should they, it's not NCL fault she was late. The ship even waited 30 more minutes and that costs NCL additional port fees.

The video was just on the NBC 12 noon news here in NYC! It was both parents that missed the ship. They said NCL gave the couple lodging and transportation.

NCL might, togehter with the Port Agent, help with getting a Hotel and flights back to NY, but they not will pay for anything.

They offer assistance. It must be paid by the passengers themselves. Afterall it was their fault (well, the wifes fault)

Yes she does. The ship departed late. That means the casino and shops were all late opening at a minimum. That impacts others on the ship. About 4,000 passengers were able to get back on this ship on time with no confusion. I refuse to have any compassion for the one person that did not manage their time properly until I hear a proper explanation (her lobotomy ran late, i.e.).

And yes. I have done lots of boneheaded things in my life. But I also did not expect anyone to back me up because something bad happened due to my actions. And I apologized to those people negatively impacted due to my actions.

Children enjoying the rest of the cruise' date=' while the parents stick it out in NY.

Children under 18 have to sleep with an adult in a cabin.

They can't be left alone, right?

Wonder how sleeping arrangements are made under these circumstances.[/quote']

Nope. The requirement is that an adult be in the same or connecting cabin. Don't know whether the uncle's cabin was at least adjacent or not, but assuming that the uncle was not travelling alone, he could have moved to the kid's cabin, while his wife stayed with any kids they traveled with. Not a big deal.

Did you read the articles? They weren't left alone. Dad and NCL made arrangements to leave the kids with their uncle on the ship & that dad would get back off with mom and travel docs.

I totally agree with you.

If I was traveling with family and was going to miss the ship I would hope my husband would get off and wait for me. I know my kid's would be safe with their other family members. She missed the ship that doesn't make her a bad mother.

I guarantee this "MOM" also leaves her unattended in an idle car while she shops, because it's too much of a burden to take them in and out.

How do I know this...Because she displayed narcissistic behavior such as

NOT MAKING IT BACK TO THE SHIP ON TIME...

This may come as a complete shock to you. But, I'm not a perfect parent. But you can bet, unless I was hurt, beaten, held hostage or any other extraordinary reason that would have prevented me from returning on time like any responsible adult. I would have been back.

She was shopping, selfish and stupid. Is what she is if this story is accurate.

Anyone who returns to a ship late and causes the ship to wait certainly does have a negative impact on others.

A) Delaying a couple of thousand people - who are not able to use facilities not open while in port is negative.

B) Delaying the sailing of a ship can require the ship making higher speed to the next port, causing higher fuel consumption and reducing net earnings - admittedly hard to measure, but certainly negative.

C) Causing ships officers to change routine involves a negative imposition upon them.

It is exactly that sort of self-involvement: not considering the negative impact on others of one's irresponsibility which leads people to the carelessness which sometimes manifests itself in stupid people inconveniencing others.

Children can sleep by themselves in a room on Carnival. I don't know what Norwegian's rule is.

Norwegian didn't leave a mom behind - the mom left her kids on the ship without her.

I love how she becomes the devil mom.....which is totally wrong and everyone knows that

As a female....Ive never realized the hatred towards women before as I've witnessed in the past year....everywhere...not just on cc...

And I wonder if it had not been the mom but the dad that was late if these negative mom comments would be posted

I'm speechless at the hatred toward the mom and females in general on cc

Not to mention the hatred toward children on cruises in general

But in this particular case.....

the mom was late getting back to the ship....and this doesn't make her a horrible person btw

The dad had gone back to the ship earlier.....doesn't make him a horrible person either

When it was apparent the mom would be too late to make the ship...and no one knew why at that point....makes us realize that the mom could have been in trouble btw

Ncl and the dad consulted as to the best course of action...which is the proper thing to do

It was decided that since additional family was on board that the dad would leave the kids with them....and if there wasn't family onboard don't you think the dad would have taken the kids off with him? Of course he would have

The dad would get the needed docs....

The dad would disembark to find and stay with his wife....

This was done in consultation with ncl btw.....

What happened is exactly what should have happened in cases like this

The unfortunate thing is the wife returns minutes too late....and as I always say to my kids....it all comes down to the seconds in life .....

And of course someone has to video and post the scene....because they can and need to be big shots

And of course posters have to comment on what a terrible mother she is and that the husband should have left her behind to teach her a lesson. Because we love to female bash apparently these days. Sheesh

I think the situation was handled with professionalism and authority...by ncl...the husband...and the family onboard

Kudos to them

Are you for real?

You "guarantee" the mom leaves her kids unattended in a car while she shops?

You must know her personally then to state this.

I feel sorry for you if you don't know her personally but feel you can state this anyway

I agree with everything you said, except the part about her returning "minutes too late". She was 40 minutes late. That can't be minimized like you've tried to do. But otherwise, I agree.

And I still think mom is a moron. Not because she's a woman (so am I), but because she's a moron. It's certainly a family vacation they will remember for a lifetime, even though mom ruined it. Heck, almost half the trip was spent apart because of this. I hope when those kids grow up, they let their mom know that she was a moron for missing the ship.

Actually the minutes too late I was talking about was just that

Even though she was late....if she had been perhaps 5 minutes less too late...this who,e thing would have been a non issue to her and her family

Of course the gamblers on board would have had a huge issue either way Lol

I honestly have to say that I hope the kids do not ever tell their mom she was a moron for missing the ship but rather something along these lines....and ending with a good laugh...

Oh yes remember when mom missed the ship because of that $5 garbage thing she bought at the straw market in Nassau???

We were worried about you mom and I know how badly you felt about causing it...but at least you were safe and dad was able the help you!!!

Thankfully you were never late again on all those subsequent cruises we took....but we kept an eye on you that's for sure!!!!

Gotta love our mom!!!!!

Fwiw my dh likes to get lost ...or at least straddle behind...on vacays...so my 4 daughters and myself hold a family meeting a few weeks before and it goes like this....

Ok so what is the order we are going thru airport security....whose 1st..2nd..etc. and dad in the middle right?

Ok so how are we sitting in the plane? Whose got dad going? Coming?

And so on...

Dad btw is perfectly competent but as the dad of 4 dd's he enjoys this back and forth with a smile

Now that the kids are teens and young adults....they still Fondly recall how dad and one dd totally walked past us at the Disney meeting spot and when they couldnt us....instead of waiting dad at the 9 yo dd just proceeded to go on the carousel of progress..and Buzz. Lol!!

Btw that 9 yo was high school valedictorian and is now graduating from top top university Summa Cum Laude in a few weeks. Dad is no slouch either btw and yes I was worried but

I wouldn't call them morons...although I did set them straight when I found them and was definitely upset because I did t really know if dd was in fact with dad

Fwiw...my family was spilt up on the ridiculous stitch ride because of a true moron...the Disney worker that decided to close the door on me after I said my 9 yo is in there and I don't know if she saw her dad go in or is right behind him...and I don't think my husband knows she went in...

Disney moron answer....sorry too bad. Yes I reported her...she was horrible and nasty

And we still all have an incredibly good laugh over the incident

Btw... They were together thankfully...but we didn't know that until we saw them calmly waiting to enter the carousel of progress...and ran over to join them.

I am sure she has beat herself up more than all on CC have.

We have all done stupid things and have made mistakes. Even "idiotic" and "moronic" ones. However, hers were on video and documented for the world to see and sensationalize.

It was unfortunate for everyone involved. It makes me sad.

Would you possibly consider yourself a knee-jerk radical feminist? Most comments addressed the situation as being simply a tale of an irresponsible parent - who happened to be a woman. I believe the same sort of comments would have followed had the parental participants switched roles.

I think the person you quoted has a very rational and realistic view of this particular situation and refuses to buy into all the bashing
