What happens to unused on board credit?

I have a bunch of points built up on my Carnival MasterCard and was thinking about converting many of them over to on board credit for my June cruise. I'm just wondering what happens to any unused OBC. Will I get that back in the form of cash? Or will I just lose what I don't use?

I already have $100 OBC because we booked this cruise while on our last cruise. Does anyone know if that is refundable if unused? And if we add more from the MasterCard will the original $100 be used first I assume?

Unused OBC can be transferred from your S&S acct. to a slot machine. Play a spin or two & then cash it out.

OBC from booking a cruise while on a cruise, shareholder OBC and OBC as part of your booking are all non-refundable. The good thing is that non-refundable OBC is used before other types of OBC such as price drops or credits for tax or port fee adjustments (which are refundable), or cash deposits made to your account.

According to my account last sailing, they used the credit card amount first and would then go to gift cards, then cash, and last would be credit cards themselves. Thankfully we never made it that far.

I would use my Mastercard for my S&S account and build up more points (2X point value) and then take the points as a credit after I got the bill in. Some people don't know this but if you have 100,000 on your Carnival MC it converts into a $1500.00 statement credit.

Please explain to me how you exactly get the statement credit from Barclays for your funpoints. I have a hard time understanding this, as their website drives me crazy. When you say "statement credit" you mean your credit card statement? And since you have to use the points up within 180 days, how do you get to 100,000 to get the $1500 credit? Thank you.

I find their app to be easy to use. I can redeem my funpoints for statement credit to offset any of the below charges. I am saving up for 100,000 points at which point I will book a $1,500 cruise and use them on that. You don't have to use the points within 180 days. You have 180 days to use the points to offset a charge. So my September cruise is no longer on here because it's been over 180 days...I can't offset those charges anymore...but my March cruise is there.

Thanks. I'm starting to get it. This is our first cruise (December) and I'm trying to gather funpoints (15000 so far) and AARP gift cards to help pay for it. Our final payment isn't due until October.

I use my Carnival MC to pay the monthly bills that I have then pay it off every month. That way it helps build up points faster. You do have to be dedicated to not overspend so you won't carry a balance and incur interest charges. In order to get the statement credit, you have to book your cruise and you have 180 days to apply the credit. You do that on the Barclay site under manage my Fun Points. Your points do not expire, just the time you can use them when you book a cruise. Also Reward Boost on the Barclay site is a good way to earn extra points.

Thank you Cool Cruiser. I've shopped via Rewards Boost 4 times since mid April and I've only gotten the extra points via Restaurant.com so far. Nothing for Lands End, Hilton or Macy's. The 45 day wait is almost up for Lands End. It's been 2 weeks for the other 2.

So how exactly is this done. I have played slots using my S&S card but have never used it for cash.

No need to fuss around in the casino.

Just go to the Kiosk and "withdraw" any refundable OBC in cash.

Takes about 45 seconds to set up a PIN to access your account...then withdraw the cash.

I would suggest setting up a PIN at the Kiosk anyway, as you can get a better account summary throughout the week at the kiosk than what you can retrieve via the TV in your cabin....without the wait in the GS line.

Not sure why people keep suggesting going into the smokey casino when there are a couple kiosks around the ship.

That is the way to go. They told us our unused obc from our mastercard would be lost if not used so we acted accordingly so as to not let them take our money.

Complained about this to JH and he said they would look into this but never heard a word.

Next time would use as statement credit but hardly use the card these days as the benefits are not nearly as good as others we now have.

I am a bit confused. can any OBC credit be cashed out? I will have about $300 in OBC from the travel agent, Carnival, and shareholder credit but am thinking about doing cheers. if we do cheers then we will likely not use all of the OBC but dont want it to go to waste. other then using it for the steakhouse one night, i doubt we would use it for anything else.

I don't believe you can withdraw NONrefundable OBC in cash. This is why people recommend the casino method.
