There are several - not sure how to rank them.

- Bloody Mary at the airport lounge after clearing security

- seeing the ship for the first time from the hotel or in the taxi to the port

- Champagne/Mimosa upon boarding the ship

- first nap on balcony

- first breakfast on balcony

- seeing the water change color to the deep blue of the Caribbean

So many individual moments to choose from, but the one that remains constant on every cruise is the deep bellowing of this ship's horn signalling that we're officially headed out.

I love that moment, especially when up on deck with music playing, dancing, and watching Florida drift away...:ship::tropical-drink:

What a wonderful thread to read tonight... I always tell folks that the minute the ship starts to pull away you are on vacation mode... no other land vacations allow me to so quickly shift work/ vacation minds. A beautiful memory my husband and I still value today is about 14 years ago Celebrity use to play "Somewhere over the rainbow " thru the tv and stateroom speakers. It's become our song, it brings us back to our first few cruises...

There are so many favorite moments. This will be my and my husband's fourth cruise in April - our second on Celebrity - will probably never stray from the line again. On our first cruise aboard the Millenium - we renewed our wedding vows celebrating our 25th year. It was spectacular from beginning to end and set the standard very high.

Our second cruise was with family on Carnival - the excursions were great both nothing else. It was cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for.

Our third cruise was out of New Orleans and our ship was crippled. The whole ship was depressed. My husband would try RCI again but not me.

As far as my favorite moments:

I am a planner. Our upcoming trip in April was planned a year-and-a-half ago. Since I booked, we got 2 category upgrades.

We are flying in to FLL 2 days ahead of time and relax. We enjoy the water taxi.

On board, the first day is always hectic. Getting on board, muster drill, etc. I have to unpack - while I am doing this, my husband explores.

The next day is an at Sea day which gives me time to relax. To not have to get up at 4am for work, no cooking, no cleaning, etc. That is probably my favorite moment. To sit on the balcony sipping coffee and being able to stay up late and not go to bed by 8. I am a busy cardiac surgery RN who is on call a lot.

Wonderful sunrises and sunsets

Involving a port:

Opening the balcony door in the wee hours of the morning and seeing the lights of so many ships heading toward the Panama Canal

What a wonderful thread! Reading it has brought back so many great reminders of favorite cruising moments. There are way too many to mention on Celebrity, but any time I'm in Cafe el Bachio has to be one of them. I have so many happy memories of cruising on the famous SS:Norway. On our very first cruise on her, our first sight of those famous and beautiful funnels almost made me faint with joy. I remember one cruise on her where I stayed up walking all over the ship until 3:30 am and got to watch an elegant full moon set over Miami. Breathtaking! Once in Barcelona, we had arrived before the ship was ready and had a 1 hour bus ride around the city. At one point we got off the bus and walked up a very big hill. Down below us we saw the Norway in all her splendor and knew we would soon be on her. We had a transatlantic on the southern route after that and I slept on a lounge chair on the balcony every night. Slept like a baby.

As for the worst cruising memory: Our very first cruise we had no idea how to pick a cabin. Turned out we had one under what seemed to be an all-night bowling alley. I didn't get to sleep until 4:30 am. Later we looked on the deck plan and found out we were directly under the ship's bakery. Seems like they were baking and rolling around heavy tables all night. We have since learned to pay attention to deck plans before picking a cabin!

What a great thread!

My favourite part of a cruise starts even before the cruise!

I get very excited at two specific moments...

The first is when I open up my closet that contains all of my summer clothes that I haven't seen for months and I start laying things out on the bed to pack.

The second is when I've checked my bags at the airport and wait at the gate that either says "Fort Lauderdale," "Miami," or "West Palm Beach." It's that feeling that once I know I'm going away to someplace warm I get super excited - there's no going back at that point! :)

I got goosebumps reading this one because it is perfect for me too! And of course the first "boink" Ahhhh

My favourite moment:

Watching lightening out in my balcony, looking at the lightening hitting the sea and feeling the whole world is in a complete silence- it's a feeling of washing your soul

I have not had this experience on a cruise, but I would LOVE it! I am mesmerized by thunder and lightening, and often have to be escorted indoors by DH during a great storm. Of course I have a really nice covered area on our patio where I watch the magic unfold...I hope to see this at sea someday.

I love the boink, the vibe all around the ship before embark, the thunderous blast of the horn as we're leaving port, Sunset Bar at Sail Away, and always, my Ceasar Salad with anchovies!

We took our first long cruise (had taken 3 day out of Florida & LA) by accident. We got a great price for the cruise and the flights to Europe. We didn't go again for a few years, but when my husband decided to retire, I booked a B2B2B for 34 nights as a present. The best part of the trip was suppose to be the last leg, cruising the Baltic and going to Russia. The surprise was the transatlantic part. We had eight wonderful days at sea and arrived at Le Havre for a tour we had set up with Celebrity for $109 pp - it was a 10 hour Normandy/D-Day tour. We talked about that tour for the rest of the cruise. Anyone that has the chance - make this a bucket list item to do. Yes my Dad serviced in the army in WWII - but he was in the Netherlands. The D-Day tour really makes you realize the sacrifices make by everyone involved - eye opening.

My favorite part is on sailaway day. We always board early so we can explore so we don't go to the cabin for a few hours. Its that time when you go down the hallway to your cabin and your cabin steward pops our and greets you so warmly, as if you are family returning home. That moment always makes me smile and makes me feel like all my cares can wash away because someone has welcomed me home.

First coffee at Al Bacio.

A glass of wine on our balcony at sail away.

At the end of the day, walking into our turned down cabin with the lights dimmed.

Cozy in bed highlighting the next day's activities in the daily and filling out the breakfast card.

Breakfast on my balcony in the quiet, unrushed morning of a sea day. .... looking forward to 9 of them on my upcoming TA!

Maybe this has been mentioned before, but this is the perfect thread for Newbies to understand why cruising is one of the most relaxing ways to travel, imho.

My favorite moment: sitting aft and watching the wake...

Sailing under the Golden Gate, way up as high as we could get on the ship. It was great, it seemed like we could almost touch the bridge. Then they sounded the horn and we all nearly fainted. That thing is LOUD!:D

Loving this thread. For me it's the first glimpse of the ship. When we sail from Southampton we always stay away the night before sailing and stay in a hotel overlooking the dock. The morning we embark, we are always up early and go for a walk by the sea-front, always have the same warm feeling when we see the ship knowing we are boarding in a few hours. I still remember the first time I saw a cruise ship and couldn't believe the size and the excitement, still get that feeling 7 cruises later.

I agree with the others whose favorite time is stepping on the ship. At that moment I always feel the tension drain from my body. Even if I still have to book shows, dining, etc. I don't worry any more. If we can't get the times we want we know we will have a great time anyway.

After a few days on a cruise where everyday was cloudy and rained, we ventured to the casino. We are not big gamblers but we're quite bored from being shut in. I went off in one direction with $20 and husband went off in another direction with another $20 bill I had to play the penny slots. I lost all my $20 and went to find my husband. He was playing a slot called Lucky Lemmings. It was a pretty funny game and we were both laughing until I looked down. "Does that say $600?" I asked. He replied "yup". So I lost $20 and he won $580 in that same amount of time. He cashed out and paid our bar tab. I later asked him for the $20 he owed me.. ;p

Was it the Grandeur of the Seas by chance? We were on that cruise too.

I love sea days too, coffee on the balcony letting our cares just slip away. I'm from NH too, and I work at the best hospital on the West Side of Manchester..:D

The absolute best moment of any cruise is walking on board and hearing the "ding" of your sea pass being accepted. The second best is sitting on the balcony, wine glass in hand, and just letting the stress you left behind melt away with the passing of the waves.
