Half of B2B cancelled - RCCL not helping!

Recommended Posts

Any reason why you can't do the second week on the back end?

My experience was that they were not giving price protection for the first few cruises after the dry dock.

I've talked with two resolutions agents and my travel agent has talked to 4. All are saying it is against policy to accommodate a cruise they didn't cancel.

They also keep telling me there is no one above them, which I am not buying.

Wait, maybe I missed something, the ship's headed to drydock, but it's not their policy to accommodate a cruise they didn't cancel?

I am so sorry this is happening to you, and you're 100% right to be upset about this. I hope it all works for you in the end somehow and you should not have to pay extra for a different booking. I liked the advice from the earlier poster about climbing the ladder to corporate because they'll fix it for you.

I would say that Royal does in a sense recognize B2B's or at least they have a specific/special procedure to handle any B2B's on the just completed sailing and the upcoming sailing.

It is my understanding that those who are onboard are taken as a group off and back on ship as a group unless they want to stay off till a later time.

I did not get the sense that OP was looking to take advantage of Royal and for sure it is 2 different bookings. I can only imagine the vast nature of potential 'exceptions to the rule' that Royal deals with. Not clear cut, but I also know that cruise lines make exceptions to the rule which is a double edge sword to both the company and the traveling public.

When you book a B2B the two reservations are linked, but they are two separate cruises. You do receive separate invoices but they will look like this. I took the amounts off.

First cruise invoice:

Total Charges Cruise 1

Amount Paid Cruise 1

Balance Due Cruise 1

Second cruise invoice:

Total Charges Cruise 2

Amount Paid Cruise 2

Balance Due Cruise 2

Total Charges Cruise 2

Total Charges Cruise 1

Total Charges All Sailings

If I read the OP correctly, RC cancelled the first week of the B2B, but the second week is the first week after drydock so it wasn't cancelled.

IMO, this is one of those cases where what RC is obligated to do is different than what they SHOULD do. For customer service reasons, them losing a few hundred bucks doesn't seem like a big deal and of course they should make an accomodation. But I can also see where "officially" they don't want to start a precedent of giving price protection outside their rules....then it just becomes forever cases of "you did it for them, why not me?"

Never seen an invoice like that for a B2B, are you sure that's not a TA's invoice

That's correct, we would have gladly booked the cruise directly after our second booking, but were told that booking is not available for price protection unfortunately. (I assume because it is nearly sold out and the prices have gone quite high.)

A possible option is a fake B2B- so take the Feb 17 Adventure cruise, and then the Feb 25 Jewel cruise. Which is one overnight in San Juan.

Hope you can get Feb 24 on the Adventure, though.

That is our second option right now...

Unfortunately, because that is a holiday week flying in on those dates will cost us $1150 per person return, plus the hotel stay in between cruises, plus meals for the turnaround day. [emoji79]

You can't take the Feb 10 on Jewel?

Jewel departs on Sundays (Feb 11th), adventure departs Saturdays so we wouldn't be back in time to get on the adventure on the 17th 😣

also, they didn't offer the jewel Feb 11 as a price protection option. That was the one sailing out of about 8 weeks that they didn't offer as an option.

So you know- the Feb 12 sailing out of Miami has gotten pretty cheap. We saved a lot and moved up a class, and just today, we had a $350 price drop. I expect the price will continue to go down.

If you can deal with losing two days, and can put together the flight- well, Feb 12 and Feb 17 is an option.

We elected to change our Feb 10 to Feb 12 from Miami, and found good flights to Miami and from San Juan.

That's the way it looks if they are linked by RCI. I make sure any of my B2B's are not linked by them. I made that mistake once. Never again. During your online check in just select "Consecutive Cruiser" and you're all set.

I hate to disagree with everyone but the OP should be able to cancel everything and get refunds.

She can cancel, but she does not want to cancel.

OP, I feel your pain and I too would be disappointed. You have already received the best advice here so hope it all works out for you.

I am sooooo sorry to hear about this. We were supposed to be on Jan 13th and 20th on Adventure and they obviously got cancelled. You are in a much worse predicament than us. But we had just booked our airfare 2 weeks prior. :( So right now, we are trying to figure that all out. The flights have gone up a ton since then so we are waiting to see what we are going to do. Decided to book Jewel for the 14th and 21st. Will miss Adventure though :( Good luck with this and I'll be waiting to see how to all turns out.

Yeah, we've been on Adventure 4 times and never have been on Jewel. But we love the Royal Promenade and will really miss that. We were on Serenade in 2009 for my first cruise and I loved it! So it'll be nice to be back on that class of ship. I'm excited for a change!

This won't help your current problem, but HAL offers a few 14 day cruises from Seattle or Vancouver to Anchorage and back.

On our 35-day TA out of Boston, one of our fellow passengers was complaining about Royal Caribbean offering one of those 60+ day cruises that were really several cruises joined together. She said they kept repeating shows and menus in the MDR, since it was really a batch of cruises.

One of the times Royal Caribbean made cutbacks, I started looking at other lines. Since all these new ship builds, we've lost a lot of value. No more flower cart, no more turn down chocolates, no dining room flowers, no more fruit and ice sculptures, etc.

Definitely write a letter to the President. Years back I did this and the letter was intercepted by an Executive Quest Specialist with very positive results. Keep the letter positive. Tell them you booked your cruises together and the cost was a consideration in your choice and you were very happy to book on Royal. Let them know that you now have to factor in the added cost with and may be forced into choosing a different line for part or maybe all of your next vacation. Ask them if they can give you price protection for both of your bookings.

If you previously cruised with Royal before add that in telling them how much you were looking forward to cruising again. Give it fluff Corporate loves happy returning customers. It's a lot less expensive to entice returning customers than trying to get new ones.

Not I f they are in final penalty phase. Cruise are all sold as individual trips. I know people who book 4 and 5 in a row. They are each considered a separate trip and thus cannot be treated as one item. Every one will have its' own booking number.
