Has Anyone Else Received This Email From RCCL?

Recommended Posts

We will be cruising on the Allure on 5/21 and today I received this email:

Thank you for your responses thus far.

We would like to offer you the chance to be considered to participate in a study onboard Allure of the Seas sailing May 21st -- we are not trying to sell anything! In fact, we are offering you an onboard credit for each day that you are asked to participate. Your participation in this study will help shape the future of cruise ships!

Here's how it will work:

  • Before your sailing departs, we will have a phone call with you for just 30 minutes to get to know you and your expectations for this upcoming cruise, as well as answer any questions you may have for us
  • Once your cruise has begun, we'll ask you to complete an exciting mission and journal about it via a mobile device app each day (which means you'll also get free internet for your cruise!). Each task will be quick and easy to complete, in most cases it includes things you would be doing anyway
  • We will meet in person once a day for no more than 30 minutes to have a casual conversation about how your mission went
  • On the final day of your sailing, we will host a small party for all participants and their families to gather final thoughts on your cruise experience and have some fun!

For your time, at the end of each day we will apply an onboard credit to your account in the amount of $100USD per day.

Would you be interested in being considered for a chance to participate?

I don't think I will participate in this because there are so many things to do on the Allure and we have excursions in every port. Time will be of the essence on this particular cruise. However, I'm curious if anyone else has participated in this and can tell me what it's all about? Is it worth the $100/day OBC? Is it very time consuming? I took the initial survey just to see what the "perks" they hinted at were. We'll already have free WIFI for sky class but that daily OBC sure is tempting. Is it each day or are there only certain days they ask you to participate?

This just has me really curious.

This part sends chills up on down my spine - the thought of the putting software on my device from that crack RC IT staff.

Hmm I haven't ever heard of it but would do it. Sounds like RC version of secret shopper, to check on staff and amenities.

I think it would use royaliq app or something similar.

 I hadn't even thought of that and that alone might be reason not to participate!!!

I agree - I would not do it either. Something sounds "fishy". I would not want someone who claims to be working with Royal or the cruise industry promises you something and puts a "tracking device" on your phone. And if they do not deliver the promised $100.00 who are you going to whom do you complain. No where does it say they are working with Royal.

I've got an older smartphone that isn't being used (a couple of them actually). I would use my older phone and then even if it does get messed up, I just reset it back to factory settings.

$100 per day in OBC - I'm a cheap cruiser and to me that would be quite a bit. I'd take it out at the casino (even at the 5% charge) and use it for spending money on shore.

I am curious as to what the "missions" are.

I have an old 3GS and could not get it to authenticate to Royal's WiFi. I could connect to the WiFi SSID, but I never got a logon page. My wife's old 4S had no problems authenticating.

$100 a day to ruin my vacation sounds like quite a bit is expected out of you for such a little amount of money, your on a vacation not at work, why would you want to be bothered, enjoy your cruise forget the work.

I would likely participate, if the email came from a legit Royal email or affiliate. I do mystery shopping and similar things all the time in my spare time, so this would be right up my alley.

Never gotten an email like this before though.

Royal did announce recently in a shareholder press release that they have big plans for mobile apps; this could be related.

I would rather see a free sailing and I will pay my incidentals and then I would consider it. It will take an awful lot of time to complete the tasks they are proposing.

Not to derail, but just saw you're location. I grew up in Woodbridge in the mid-90s. Very nice area.

I hope they develop something that works than more reliably than Royal iQ. The Excalibur project was supposed to start this summer - no word on roll out yet - maybe with Symphony next year.

For the free internet and the $100 per day OBC i would most certainly do it! I am sure they can arrange the 30 minutes per day meeting with you around your schedule- they would not want you to curtail your fun or your excursions for that. Why not 30 minutes before or after dinner or first thing in the am after breakfast but before you go off the ship? That $500-$700 plus free internet would do it for me- it would pay for my spa treatment and most of my excursions as well. Heck, yes!

I did something like this on Carnival several years back-before the majority of the world had smartphones. There was a call with questions before the cruise. I had a journal to fill out during the cruise. Then there was a meeting on one day of the cruise later in the week for about an hour and a half pretty early in the day on a sea day. They offered me a good OBC for doing it. I can't remember how much-but I remember that it was pretty decent for the little time involved. My husband was sleeping in late the day of the meeting anyway-so it really didn't take me away from anything-I probably would have been sleeping or reading a book that morning. It was worth it to me. It was kind of interesting too.

This one sounds like it is a little more involved-but nothing too terrible. Sounds like the compensation is pretty good-free wifi for the week and $700 OBC. I'd do it.
