Honestly, as children myself and my friends constantly where doing way more dangerous activities. However no-one else was around, there where no spy cameras and no youtube to become famous from. I can say we never where unruly around others, what these kids did was pretty low key and super lame. At the end of the day, I don't see why people would want to bring their kids along in the first place, It must be extremely boring for them.

We were on Caribean cruise over Xmas and New Year, our first cruise of many. It was young teenagers causing mayhem, running into people spilling drinks, a sunbed thrown overboard late at night. Throwing ice and Playing up and down in lifts. It ended up with Princess staff patrolling the ship and manning the stairs and lifts. It did not put me off cruising but try to miss school holidays. If we go with P and O we try to get adult only.

Was your cruise one of those that went back to Ft Lauderdale halfway through making it a 14 day b2b or was it the true 14 day cruise (Circle Caribbean)? I ask because we are taking the Circle cruise this coming Xmas and really hoping it won't be plagued by these problems. Thanks in advance

A totally revolting and disgusting reality, everywhere, but especially on cruise ships.

PSA: Princess does NOT care. When have they ever been known to acknowledge or enforce any rules.

And as for the pools and hot tubs... Especially in Alaska, no less, they do not even care to see that they are heated. On our Alaskan cruise, everyone was complaining... They sent out a 'shirt' with a thermometer/device to act like something might be done... NOTHING...

And, as for us, we do NOT travel/cruise during school/family holidays. Off season for us, thank you.

Parents are responsible for their children's behavior. With that said, If something would have happened you know that the cruise line would be held responsible for having the pool open and no attendants around monitoring the area. There were other passengers in the pool so clearly there needed to be supervision by Princess staff if only for the protection of the cruise line. A few years ago my company was sued by a women who walked into the glass window that was positioned between two sets of double doors. She was texting and walked passed the door and into the glass and broke her nose. The case went to court and see won based on the fact that the store didn't have a decal or warning sign on the glass. I don't know how a decal on the window would have helped if she missed the obvious exit signs on the two doors. This is our legal system.

I walked into the glass window in one of our cafe's. A real "Howard, Fine & Howard" moment. I instructed the staff to put decals on the glass to prevent that happening again!

AMEN... I would never, in a million years, consider sailing Princess with kids. What do they say about 'idle time'.

Not every kid needs constant things to do, and not every kids needs to be center of the world. Our DD (now 13) has sailed on many cruises. She likes going to dinner, the shows, the movies, reading on a lounge chair, and general activities (kids club, dance classes, chef presentations, game shows, etc). In other words, everything most adults like to do outside of drinking alcohol and the casino.

Problem is there will be a few who need to be the center of attention and can't sit still. Those parents should be prepared for that. Not all of them are though

One size does not fit all when it comes to families. Some kids probably do find Princess boring, but not ours.To repeat something I said way up the thread pages ago, our kids have been on 11 Princess cruises starting at ages 4 and 8. They will be going on their 12th Princess cruise in March when they will be 17 and 21. I'm sure the 21 year old will be heading to the Platinum/Elite lounge to order her first Princess cocktail. We tried one cruise on Royal Caribbean with the ice skating rink and rock climbing wall back when they were 9 and 13, and it was not for us. Our kids can do those things on land. We love Princess and Celebrity and also had a lovely time crossing on the Queen Mary 2 with the family.

The video has been removed from YouTube and is no longer available on that site.

Not true; I just watched it. The original site is gone, but someone must have resurrected it. So scary to see him going over and watching those poor people who were in the pool - luckily he didn't hurt any of them.

Maybe they couldn't provide sufficient heat since Alaska does have colder water temps.

We've cruised with our daughter for the past 3 years (she's 10 now) including 2 10-nights to Alaska and a 15-night Panama Canal. She always has an amazing time and none of us ever want the cruise to be over :). We also don't do the kids club and just spend the time together as a family. It might not work for some families but it certainly works for ours. In our opinion, it's a family vacation. Why would I not want to be with my family?

Don't get me wrong, my husband and I do take little trips on our own but definitely not for 10 or 15 nights.

OK, real world people. Nothing will happen. In fact I predict reversal, the patent will lawyer up. And sue the cruise line for not providing security that would have avoided these sweet kids from harms way.

It was a youthful indiscretion. Princess / carnival corp is liable here. Not the kids. No fence, or other structure was in place. Preventing this act from occurring is the responsibility of the cruise line. The inaction of a deterrent actually encouraged this behavior.

I'm really focusing on boys here, you don't see many girls spending their weekend skateboarding down stair rails or back flipping their bmx. All that energy and nowhere to release it, sure playing basketball is fun for about 10 minutes, what about the rest of the day? Playstation 3 with no network? I think not. On my last cruise the family sitting next to us had 2 young daughters, they actually slept in the MDR every night after dinner. How? With all that noise, great family and very friendly. You're only young once, some kids want to spend holidays with their friends, not family, that was certainly me. I can understand why these brats did what they did, it doesn't mean I condone it though.

  • 2 weeks later...
. At the end of the day, I don't see why people would want to bring their kids along in the first place, It must be extremely boring for them.

I guess different styles for different families and we all make our own choices.

My kids are 3* mariner HAL nearing 4 and are platinum Princess and nearing for my younger child.

They have been on 14 day cruises, > 14 d cruise tours, 23day South America/Antarctica, etc.numerous 1 week cruises.

They go for same reason I love to travel- they spend hours in different countries, museums, on the ship listening to naturalists and historians, junior ranger programs, etc learning about wildlife, history, architecture, etc. Their knowledge base is more broad than most if not all kids in their class with the experiences & opportunities they have had. They love the ships- club, shows, naturalist talks- the same ones the adults attend I bring my kids to (unless advised in patter that no kids of course). they sit attentively the entire program, longer than some of the adults do-

they are not running wild around the ship or jumping off upper decks into the pool, they are quiet & respectful in the dining room- we have even asked to be move in the MDR due to adults that were loud and obnoxious- do we ever have lapses of behavior issues- yes but they are dealt with quietly, swiftly and with discipline and consequences. Those instances are few and far between.

one of my kids has attended the photography class offered- we checked in advance if ok- he was obsessed that year with our new camera-

just like some adults are well behaved, respectful, courteous, kind and some are NOT

the same applies for kids- I don't think its a reasonable assessment to lump all kids into a one size fits all

I knew this past connoisseur cruisetour- I was going to get some of the same looks and attitudes from adults that we have had on prior cruises and cruise tours when we have been placed at large tables with others or on the bus the first few days. of the trip. Yes it happened again. out of 37 people my 9 year olds were the only 2 on the bus four our 9 days together :o. AGAIN!

but EVERY tour we have had the majority (if not all) of the fellow tour guests come up to them and tell them how wonderful they were to have on the bus.

This past trip almost the entire bus knew their names- would ask them what they did for the day, what their plans were for the next day, they approached them with hugs and well wishes at the end of our cruise tour. Several fellow cruisers were asking advice for land excursions for future days on our trip and for future cruises. We provided a couple of them with a ride in towns where we had rented a car and they had not made plans. I think if the kids were little terrors fellow cruise guests would have sat far away form us on the bus and avoid us in the restaurants vs sitting at the table next to us or with us when ample tables were available.

I have even made a quiet announcement on the bus on some trips- of I promise my 3 kids will be well behaved and not disrupt your trip- just to make them at ease if possible that we are all here for the same purpose- to have a wonderful trip. when we have done group introductions with the tour group I have added sometimes...- hi this is... and these are my kids..... and they will be good :)- if there are any issues with them disturbing you please let me know. Also have said at times we are happy to share a table but completely understand if you would prefer to dine without kids, etc-- However, lately I ask to not share table with others- we have too much to do and places to see and like to eat swiftly and not spend 2 hrs at the restaurant - :)

I have reminded the tour guide when they are assigning tables for dinner- to please ask the other guests if they want kids at their table when they are mandating shared tables

can't change peoples minds but hopefully a little understanding of some kids might be cruising for the exact same reasons as some adults--- SHOCKING!:eek::eek:

Spoken like a true ambulance chasing lawyer. Never hold an individual responsible for their own actions when you can blame a business owner. It is that attitude that makes insurance companies and lawyers rich while the public has to pay the cost in higher prices.

Not to mention the facts are incorrect. Princess has railings and signs there, in fact I think they were shown in the video.

Crown Princess Brownie Riot

I would have expected something like that on a Carnival cruise. Did anyone read the only comment left at the youtube video? An autistic boy yelled out "Man Overboard!" the shipped stopped, everyone had to go their cabin, and a search was on. They put the family off the ship at the next stop. Sounded like a ghetto cruise.

Just out of interest, Have your kids experienced flying to other countries? I'm honestly not meaning to be rude, I just find a cruise holiday to be the most minimal way to experience other cultures. As an adult it's a different story all together as most of us would have traveled and enjoy the relaxation.

I'm glad your trips work out in a positive way.

Yes thankfully with our vacation travels we have been able to drive, cruise & fly many places.

Not all children are feral, berserkers just because you came across a couple on a cruise ship. Just as not all people over 55 are rude, angry, miserable complainers just because there are always a couple on a cruise ship.

Not all it's true but just enough of them to cause discomfort to most cruisers.
