Harvey Remnants

I live 45 miles south east of Austin and in the last 36 hours have had 15 inches of rain and 2 trees down one on my house the other across a fence into the neighbors yard. Who knows how long before I can get the tractor in the yard without getting stuck or

Rutting up both yards.

Ouch! We are neighbors. I am about 35 miles southeast of Austin. Rain nearly all day, though the high wind has abated.

I feel so sorry for the folks living through this, and the folks who didn't know whether to go to Galveston for a planned departure this weekend.

Try to stay safe.

Currently on the Freedom, they have updated the Carnival Hub app to say we're debarking in Galveston on Wednesday. But it keeps getting extended.

I'm currently on Valor. Both ships have been basically together all day. I think we're just going in circles out here in the Gulf. They've been telling us they have no idea when Galveston will open back up.

I'd guess maybe 5-10% of the passengers left from NOLA yesterday while most of the rest of us got off for a few hours then got back on.

Everyone seems to be keeping their spirits up and Carnival has been very good to us, providing free phone and Internet and not setting false expectations. Although I can see people's moods turning if another day or two goes by with still no end in sight.

For now, still enjoying the cruise but definitely ready to get home. My 10 yr old is bummed about missing the first day of school.

This will be an experience you'll be able to share with people you meet on future cruises forever. Is the entertainment group doing additional shows and trivia contests on board.? How about suggesting a follow up to the hairy chest contest, a hairiest armpit contest.

My favorite Carnival cruise experience was on the Breeze's second Mediterranean cruise...got soaked thoroughly while standing in a cove balcony during a storm in the Adriatic. Second best Carnival Cruise was on the Splendor (love that ship). Was helmet diving on the sea bottom in Cabo when a sudden storm came up and we needed an emergency evacuation from the sea bottom. Leaving for sea days 73-76 in November on the Carnival Imagination. :-)

We (Valor) got new entertainment personnel at NOLA so we get new shows starting tonight. Some other activities are being repeated. Not sure about that armpit thing though.

Royal Independence update.......she has three medical emergencies on board, not sure what happened to them, but she did hang around Galveston for several hours before heading to Miami. All RCI'S staff is in MIami, that is why she is going there and not NO. People MAY get off in Miami, or continue back to Galveston on board after resupplying.

They were still telling people this morning on today's cruise that embarkment was pushed back to 3 pm and urging them to get to Galveston or loose their cruise money. This was after the airports closed, the port was closed, and many streets were under as much as 10 feet of water. Many people did drive and are now watching their car flood in the parking lot, also taking up much needed hotel rooms for the responders.

Posters on the Royal board are wishing that Royal handled the situation as Carnival did.

Bless all who are affected!!

More cruise disruptions beyond Harvey?

The National Weather Service has just issued the first public advisory for a new storm taking aim at the East Coast, even as Harvey batters the South.

Potential Tropical Cyclone Ten has sustained winds up to 35mph and is forecast to hit the southern part of South Carolina sometime Monday night, before heading up the East Coast.

Thanks for the information - where did you get it? I have been checking Carnival's website and can't find anything on the schedule changes. Thanks in advance.

I agree that Carnival has been very tight-lipped with information. Cruise Critic offered this today:

https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=8028

That's way more information than is readily available from Carnival. The last update Carnival posted on their website is dated August 24th:

Valor and Liberty were confirmed canceled.

Freedom Tuesday-Saturday would be a 4 day cruise and can only reach Cozumel with a 4 day.

Breeze Tuesday-Sunday would be a 5 day cruise and can reach Cozumel and either Costa Maya or Progreso in such a span of time

TROPICAL STORM HARVEY

WEATHER UPDATE #6 – 08/27/17 – 5:00 PM (EST)

While Hurricane Harvey was downgraded to a tropical storm yesterday, the storm continues to generate significant rainfall in Galveston and Houston, which has caused severe flooding. The heavy rains are impacting the roads leading in and out of Galveston. The port announced it will be closed for at least the next 24 hours, so our earliest potential opportunity to debark current guests is on Tuesday. As you can imagine, this is a fluid situation and we have no way of knowing if the port opening could be delayed further. We will continue to maintain close contact with port officials in Galveston monitoring conditions on Galveston Island, and within neighboring areas including Houston, and will provide ongoing updates as we receive additional information. At present, we intend to operate shortened itineraries on Carnival Freedom and Carnival Breeze once we are able to dock in Galveston, weather and local conditions permitting.

Carnival Freedom– is currently in position to enter the Port of Galveston as soon as the port reopens.

Carnival Breeze – is on its way to New Orleans to make a short technical stop to replenish water and provisions on Monday. She will then resume her course to Galveston.

More information for guests who were scheduled to sail on Carnival Freedom and Carnival Breeze on 8/26 and 8/27 will be provided as soon as we have a more definitive estimate of the ships’ arrival into Galveston.

Guests who opt to sail on the shortened itineraries will receive a pro-rated refund of their cruise fare as well as an onboard credit posted to their Sail & Sign account. Specific details on the itinerary and onboard credit amount will be determined once our plans for these voyages are finalized. Additionally, anyone who purchased our beverage packages will also receive a pro-rated adjustment. These refunds will be processed to the original form of payment within three weeks. Pre-purchased Carnival Adventures for cancelled ports, as well as any taxes, fees and port expenses will be refunded to your onboard Sail & Sign account. Gratuities will also be adjusted to reflect the shortened duration.

Please do not proceed to the cruise terminal until you have received notification from us with additional details.

We regret the impact the storm has had on your vacation plans. Should you wish to cancel and receive a future cruise credit*, please call 1-800-CARNIVAL, contact your Personal Vacation Planner at 1-800-819-3902, or your travel agent. A refund for any pre-purchased Carnival Adventures or Fun Shop purchases will be processed within three weeks to the original form of payment.

Carnival Valor - Unfortunately, as a result of the delay caused by the weather and considering the short duration of this 5 day cruise, it will now be necessary to cancel this voyage. A full refund will be automatically processed, including any pre-purchased Carnival Adventures, Fun Shop purchases and beverage packages. The refund will be processed to the original form of payment within three weeks. We would love nothing more than to welcome you on a future Carnival cruise where we will apply a 25% future cruise credit*.

We sincerely apologize to all our Galveston guests for the disruption to your vacation plans and are grateful for your patience and understanding. On behalf of Carnival Cruise Line, our thoughts and prayers remain with those in the affected communities.

*The future cruise credit is based on the cruise fare paid for this voyage, is non-transferable, cannot be used as a deposit or applied to a chartered sailing, and has no cash value. The credit must be redeemed by September 27, 2017 on a sailing prior to February 27, 2019. There is no refund for unused portions of the credit or for any cancellation penalties that may be assessed. After you have booked your cruise, please use the link below to provide us with the new booking information so we can process your credit.

Wonder what will happened to all the people that already cancelled and requested a future credit.

Just a reminder that the cruise fare isn't Carnival's bread and butter. They make way more money from drinks, gambling, pictures, etc. so refunding cruise fares and offering future cruise credits aren't really hurting them as much as you'd think. (it's a good thing they're doing it though)

No we just called. They won't offer it since it we changed it before they offered the 25%. It's reserved for the people who held out hoping to still go on the cruise " is what they said.
