The low cut commercial duty carpet found in most standard cabins (do they have more plush carpet in suites or on luxury lines? I'll never know) is best maintained by being shampooed, not steam cleaned.

Ā

But outside of the cabin being the location of a severely sick quarantined passenger--or a crime scene--I doubt any attention is paid to the carpet beyond cursory vacuuming over its entire life.

Don't ever bring a black light on a cruise!

Ā

I do. It's called Hotel Inspector. Small flashlight.

Ā

A few Clorox wipes for door handles, phone, tv remote, light switches, etc.

Ā

Not paranoid. Just abundance of caution. Hand washing is most important at all times. Sanitizers every where but, will not kill Noro virus.

I've been concerned about this as well, so I extended our five second dropped food rule in our kitchen to 15 seconds.

We have it on good authority (DW) that 12 seconds is the maximum! Just saying :).
