What happens if you have a little fever?

How to waste 3500 sheets of paper, ask a passenger getting on a cruise if they are unwell. Has anyone ever said yes.

Exactly. While a very few may actually tell the truth, the vast majority fearing not being allowed on the ship will simply fill out the form without mentioning anything. I wonder about the few posting on here that they would fill it out accurately just how honest they will be standing in the terminal after flying a thousand miles, paid the cruise fee and taken off work for the cruise.

About 350 of us boarded a P&O ship this year after a landtour of India.Quite a few including me had Delhi belly, but everyone boarded. What a bunch of liars us Brits are, lol. To conclude there wasn't a major outbreak of noro on the ship and after 2 days most of us were ok.

I would much prefer they have someone with an infrared non-contact thermometer measuring people's temperatures before they board to screen those who may seem or be sick......I guess the self-monitoring paper forms do not seem like such a big deal now...;p

I can't believe that some feel justified in lying on the health form and inflicting their illness on other cruise passengers. That's pathetic.

Agreed!!!!

There is not such thing as 'just a little fever' (excepting some 'condition' that I am not familiar with)

Fever will almost always be a symptom of a contagious illness.

Unless it is a very slight cold or something, don't risk it.

STAY HOME!!!

I remember a story from another Cruise Board, where a well-liked regular, traveling with her family and grandchildren, came down with some digestive troubles on boarding day.

It was NOT Noro, and she was fine 24-48 hours later... The ship kept her quaranteened for days!!!! There was an active campaign going on "FREE GRANDMA"

They don't use infrared non-contact thermometers in Florida.

The paper forms are just completely useless any probably just protect Princess from being sued by someone who catches something on the ship & wants to blame Princess for it. At least this way they have a document that proves they at least asked each passenger if they were sick or not. ;)

A lady in front of me boarding in Bangkok on a Princess cruise said that she had a touch of diarrhea. She was denied boarding. I would have to be seriously ill to mention it.

I will probably lie on the form asking if I had vomiting or diarrhea in the 24 hours or however long before boarding, because there is a chance I will have. Before anyone thinks I'm selfish, I have those issues from time to time due to medical problems that have nothing to do with anything remotely contagious. I figure with no fever I'd be fine, but I don't see the point in getting that attention.

To the person who says they want everyone to be scanned before boarding. You have two problems:

1, the cruise company would have to ensure their equipment was calibrated at all times, even if it was calibrated all equipment will have a natural tolerance +/- 2% (and that's being generous).

2. The body temperature we think of normal is the average over a population. So you will get many people whose natural body temperature is higher or lower than the average. So you could have people with a raging fever, getting pass the check and people without a fever getting stopped.

Also women have a higher temperature when they are ovulating are they all going to be stopped?

Also a fairly gross invasion of privacy too.

If you have a fever and are honest about it (which you should be for everyone's sake) you will be referred to the medical team for a quick check. If you are deemed to be healthy enough to sail, off you go. If, however, they decide that you are sick/contagious/not well enough to cruise, you can and will be denied boarding. If you do not have travel insurance then you are out of pocket.

Bottom line - have travel insurance, stay healthy but be honest!

Who is going to risk losing their cruise and get no recompense?.

I say you're crazy to mention anything about it unless you really don't want to leave on the cruise.

Two things could happen.

#1. They could refuse you boarding.

#2. They let you board & keep you isolated for a few days under surveillance.

How you you feel if they denied you boarding & 2 day later you fully recovered?

I'll take my chances & board. ;)

TBH i wouldn't risk losing my cruise.

So you have spent thousands of dollars for the cruise then you will have to make new flight arrangements with added cost.

Honestly, I don't think I would chance being denied boarding.

However, if possible I would see a Dr. for a diagnosis so that I would know if I was contagious. If contagious or if I didn't have time to see a Dr prior to boarding, I would try to stay confined to my cabin & balcony until I started feeling better. At the least, I would try to avoid contact with others and wear a mask.

Very well said and exactly what i would do.

So you are boarding in 80-90 degrees F.

I'm sure most of us would be overheating in those temperature's.

I always carry imodium anti diarrhea tablets in our medical kit and would take plenty if necessary.

My GF had a sore throat on embarkation, all they did was have her stand aside and wait for the medical team. After they couldn’t see her in port,, they escorted us onboard quickly befor others waiting, quarenteend her in the room until a medical staff member could come see her. After 30 minutes in the room, we got a call and told us we were cleared.

Funny, they checked nothing, but because we were honest. We got priority boarding.
