First Suite

Hi All,

Again, not to Hijack the thread, but I haven't done a suite yet on any of my 14 cruises, just simply because of the cost. Are you guys getting deals on these suites? Celebrity regular rooms come at a premium price to start with, so a suite is right out for my budget.

Just curious what would be so much better that is worth the $3000 to $7000 increase from a standard room to a suite on most sailings on X?

It's about what you want from the experience. I generally stay in luxury accommodations for land trips, so that's the price point I'm shopping with. But, I do still shop. I have a price I'm willing to pay and don't go over that amount. Also, if it were a port-intensive cruise with no sea days, I'd be inclined to just book a standard room. Ditto if I were sailing more frequently. Also, Celebrity's price is more or less all-inclusive at the suite level, which is another factor.

If you want to check out the "suite life", explore other lines. We have a milestone anniversary coming up this fall so we decided to at least check out pricing. We limited our search to either Celebrity or Royal Caribbean as we have status with each and we value the perks because of it. We narrowed it down to two, the Equinox for a ten day Caribbean cruise, and the Allure of the Seas, a seven nighter.

Equinox, in a Sky Suite, including all four perks $352 p.p. per day. Suite is 251 sq.ft. with a 57 sq.ft. balcony.

Allure of the Seas in a Grand Suite, with prepaid gratuities and $200 obc, for $224 pp per day. Suite is 371 sq.ft with a 105 sq.ft. balcony. Free internet is included in the price. That's $128 pp per day less. We aren't big drinkers so the 3 1/2 hour loyalty hour, the three drinks loaded to the card, and the Suite Lounge open 11am to 11pm should quench our thirst.

Throw in $250 obc and dinner for two in specialty dining and we have a winner.

We've done both ships recently so we have no qualms in our decision.

We did some fuzzy math to justify trying our first (upcoming) suite.

We are going to Bermuda, had originally booked for July, then noticed the prices for May were MUCH cheaper. We were going to be in AQ with Blu in July (which we love).

Comparing May to July, and with the 4 perks included with the suite, the same 7 day was about the same (a tad more) for a suite in May as it was for AQ in July. Done deal.

We've been to Bermuda many times and prefer a more temperate climate (and fewer kids) so this worked out great. Whether it will pan out as we hope remains to be seen, but at least we'll have a chance to try a suite - if we aren't really impressed I'm fine going back to AQ.

If your plans are flexible and you're able to take advantage of last-minute fares, you can score great deals on suites. I booked a 14-night cruise on Millennium last month with a departure of this coming Sunday for a total of $2,999, including all four perks. So not only is it not a $3000 to $7000 increase from a standard room, it's less than $3000 period!

Again, pricing depends upon when you book. As noted above, we're paying roughly $214pp per day for a Sky Suite on Millennium with all four perks thrown in.

There are alot of varibles that can affect pricing, timing, age of ship, cruise line, and others. My posting had a timeframe in mind, mid to end of October, so it made it more of a comparisson. The Milly, agewise, would not be a good comparisson compared to the Equinox.

I wasn't trying to compare Millie to Equinox; I was trying to respond to Gary's concern about the cost of paying for a suite. You responded to him by saying that he should check out other lines because Celebrity is overpriced and you did a cost comparison with RCL showing that you would have had to pay $352/pp per day for a Sky Suite on Equinox and that RCL was cheaper. I, on the other hand, was actually trying to help Gary by showing him that he could sail in a Sky Suite on Celebrity with all the perks for as little as $214/pp per day, if he was flexible about when he booked and which ship he chose to sail on.

The Suite life is SWEET indeed!!

Yes, it is and it can be especially sweet on other lines. For example, an S1 on the Silhouette cruise we're taking in December had a low price of $304 p/p per night and a last price of $380, plus taxes and port charges. We recently completed a cruise on the Regent Explorer, their newest ship. It was so much better in every way than any cruise we have ever taken on any cruise line and it really opened our eyes. It cost us $350 p/p per night for a cabin I would say was the equivalent of a CS. To be honest, it was not their typical pricing, but it was open to everyone who was fortunate to stumble on it as we were. Celebrity prices have risen so much that luxury lines now are possible alternatives.

Firstly so pleased you have found a cruise that will suite you and congratulations on your milestone anniversary....

We have also recently cruised suites on Allure and Celebrity....Whilst price comparisons can be useful I do think it is important to consider the strengths (and weaknesses) of each suite experience....

For us we did enjoy the seating privileges for shows on Allure which are a bonus with such full shows. On Celebrity we never seem to need suite seating we can usually find something....

In terms of concierge service we found Celebrity far more personable although if you are in Genie class it may be different...

Luminae and Michael’s we found head and shoulders above the Allure lounge and Coastal Kitchen...

We do enjoy the wider range of suite room choices on

RC ... Last time we loved our Aqua theatre suite. We love the suite rooms on Celebrity too...no criticisms but RC does have a wider choice. Certainly if you are traveling as a family group this is a strength of RC....

In conclusion, rather than just comparing in terms of prices it is important to compare in terms of what is important to you...for us dining and suite lounges are very important....Hence next three cruises booked on Celebrity. I am not saying one suite experience is better or worse than the other just that they are different, just as the ships are different...A price comparison alone does result in comparing apples and oranges...

We normally do suites on rccl , on celebrity you may not need reserved seating but shows are so much better on rccl. Also size of sky suite is much smaller than grand suite on all rccl. But really looking forward to our music charter in sky suite with micheals and suite restaurant .

Agree...GS is bigger than SS but the JS on RC has next to no perks! The exact reason why you need to do significant research before trying to compare the suites on two different lines! Also agree re the shows being better on RC....important if you go to shows, not important at all if you are a ‘bar mix and mingle’ type in the evenings.

Sincere best wishes for your charter cruise, hope you enjoy!

This is the most important advice anyone can receive. Everyone is different. We explored every cruise line before booking the cruise for our 40th wedding anniversary. Our top three requirements were: two bathrooms, a "proper" dining table and the right dining options. The introduction of Luminae has changed the dining element completely and, for us, has increased the appeal of Celebrity. Before Luminae, Celebrity was still the outright winner even among options that exceeded our budget and having to choose what was (for us at the time) an unappealing itinerary.

I have never been on a charter...do they follow the same rules...e.g. suites get free access to michaels?

(i assume it would be up to the chartering company to make that decision??)

Yes! However if I recall correct, only until 1:00 or 1:30. Suggest going to Michaels once you board and the concierge there can confirm hours and will even escort you to Michaels. You can also leave any carry ones in Michaels if you would like.

Can you go directly to Luminae upon boarding with your carry-ons?

Yes, you can go directly to Luminae. You do NOT need to stop in Michael's Club first.

I think this can depend on when you board. Luminae does not open until noon for lunch on embarkation day (at least on some of the ships, some of the time) and often one can start boarding a little after 11:00am. If this occurs, Michael's Club is open before noon, so one can stow their carry on luggage there and socialize, have a drink and bites there while waiting for Luminae to open. Celebrity makes boarding day very relaxing and pleasant for suite guests.
