What's the rudest or strangest thing you've seen recently on a Royal Caribbean ship?

Recommended Posts

I would not take my laptop to MDR but everyone is different and if someone else did, I would find it strange but not necessarily rude. You get all kinds on a ship and I am not going to impose my sense of etiquette on others.

On one cruise (A transatlantic), I took my books and laptop and I did spend time doing some work. Not in the dinning room but elsewhere on the ship. I very much hope nobody passed judgement for me to be seen with a pile of books and a laptop.

You had the common sense to not do it at dinner and have the Kids parading back and forth. What rights do the other diners have, None? I find what the OP said in his original post to be Rude to the other people at the table and stand by the statement. Have a good day.

OH! And the time a woman verbally attacked a bartender calling him racist because he didn't serve her first. (neither the bartender or the woman were white) I witnessed the whole thing and he was doing NOTHING racist at all.... and later at that same bar a man was sitting there drinking while he let his significant other sleep on the only couch in the crowded bar. She was off in the corner and was as pale as could be. I honestly thought she was dead and asked a waiter to go check on her. I was ready to do CPR. She looked DEAD! As still as could be. After the waiter checked on her, her man just kept sitting there drinking as she slept. So freaking weird.

Mine is subject to debate whether it is rude or funny. I cannot quite decide myself. A group of 3 were holding up numbered placards to rate the passengers that walked by them at the pool from 1-10.

Rude!

It’s called runners blow where I’m from!

On Oasis last summer they had the weekly ‘once in a lifetime’ Michael Kors purse sale out on the main drag, when they dropped the rope this one group of ladies literally grabbed armfuls of the purses and walked back over to the Sorrento’s seating area to pick out which they wanted. No RC staff seemed to even be watching as these women walked off with about 50 purses! I couldn’t believe it!

I would have went back to the Michael Kors shop and asked for the manager and told them what I saw and give a description of the ladies and have them call security to look at the cameras and follow them with the 50 purses. I would have stayed back for a statement and to watch the action and then of course them being escorted off to the brig and the off the ship at the next port.

We came to our room to change one afternoon, and we were out on the balcony enjoying the view. We look straight down onto a public deck several stories below us, and we saw a man masturbating. Kids running around a few feet away. Husband reported it, turns out they caught this guy on camera feeling himself by the pool deck watching a group of girls. He got kicked off at the next port. I have a pic to prove it but probably best not to post it!

My last cruise there were 2 guys doing that verbally at the sky bar. It ended when one of them turned to another guy standing there to point out a "4" walking by. Turned out to be that guys wife. We didn't see those 2 again and I was told they were no longer permitted to buy alcohol.

Big assumptions. Or maybe since dinner has a scheduled time, the cruiser didn't have much of a choice? Sure, normally you would just go to dinner later and get the work done, but when you have to be there at a certain time, you may have to do what you have to do. Which means getting work done. Nice that you are so judgmental that you would consider this person a loser when you have absolutely no idea what they were doing or how important it may or may not have been.

Though I guess if someone else at another random table having a laptop in front of them is the rudest thing these cruisers have seen, then they have a pretty solid history of great cruises without the slightest bit of rudeness from other passengers.

I'll bet it wouldn't be the first dinner they missed. 😉

There is a difference between working 24/7 and being available 24/7. Those who are available to handle critical tasks on a moments notice often have far more free time than those who work 9 - 5. I'm a perfect example. If a huge client of mine has an issue and I need to be available, I'm going to be available. I've stopped on a ski slope half way down to answer the phone which turned into a conference call for 20 minutes. After that 20 minutes, I'm back to skiing. Key fact here... I was out skiing while others were at work. I can come and go as I please, take off any day I want for whatever reason. But again, if something critical comes up and I'm on a cruise, I'll whip the laptop out, no problem. Issues happen, and in my position, I need to be available to address them immediately. I'm not sure why that would bother anyone but they are entitled to their feelings.

Would it be that hard to excuse yourself from the table?

On a recent transatlantic cruise we sat one table over in the dining room from a couple that brought their “therapy dog” and put him in a chair and pulled the chair up to their dining table for EVERY meal....the dog LITERALLY was eating from a plate with his front paws on the table....the plate was brought to the table by the waiter, the waiter would then rub the dog’s head while the the owners ordered his food from the menu and when his meal arrived the owners would cut the food into smaller pieces so the dog wouldn’t choke....anyway, when the dining room wasn’t opened on port days and the couple had to eat in the windjammer, they got upset that their dog was not given preferential treatment and was asked to keep the dog on the floor.....amazing.....by the way, another couple in the dining room videotaped this every day.....don’t get me wrong, I understand about folks needing their therapy dogs but all I can say is that I would see the dog throughout the cruise licking his private parts and scooting his rear end on the carpet, and all I could think about was his presence at a dining room table, lol......

I would have the DR manager over so fast it would make heads spin even if it wasn't my table ... no way any DR personnel should be handling food and touching an animal and handling food again ... and don't anyone say that the waiter would surely wash his hands, I very much doubt it, and I don't care how much the waiter might be missing his own pets ... I would escalate to the Food & Beverage Manager and the Hotel Director and Guest Relations Manager and corporate ... that is simply unacceptable activity ... period.

Strangest was sitting on my balcony in the middle of the Caribbean watching the ocean pass by. I saw a toilet seat float by on the surface

I agree with you on the first point. I am available to my clients in critical situations 24/7 - even if I'm cruising. That said, I do not take my laptop into the MDR. If something critical does come up, I will see it on my phone and excuse myself from the table to go back to my cabin and handle it. If I'm working, I'm in my cabin, or possibly the pool deck. I do believe it is rude to have your laptop on the dinner table in the MDR or any specialty restaurant. The added distraction of the kids coming to look at the screen gives some indication that this was not a work-related crisis.

An intoxicated woman in the casino kept taking her top off, she ended up in the ships brig! On that same cruise, a young woman, trying to get back on the ship in Cozumel, was incensed that she couldn't place her yard long drink down on the conveyor belt or go through security with it. She then yelled that she would just take everything off, which she proceeded to do.We never went on another 5 day cruise, its a different demographic.

I'm curious about what different demographic you refer to here. We are going on our first cruise next month. I figured a 5 day cruise was a better "first time" than a 7 day. We aren't big drinkers and will have our 3 teenage sons with us. What are we in for?

Booze Cruise is typically the 3 day weekends. 5 should be fine unless taken during spring break

I'm an American expat who has lived in the UK for 23 years (my husband is British, and I have since taken dual citizenship). The vast majority of people that I've met over the years have been wonderful. However, in my experience, the way some British people treat me when they hear me speak will often depend on who the current president is. I was actually spat at during the invasion of Iraq in 2003, and told to "f*ck off back home." This is not the norm.

Tony Blair Britain's PM backed Mr Bush so we were just as culpitable in going into Iraq.

The drink deals Thomson offer attracts the lager lout type.

Cruised with Thomson on number of occasions and never witnesses any bad behaviour. Thomsons not my favoriteline as ships quite small but for entertainment and staff they can' t be beaten.

That's really unfortunate. :( How do they treat you under the current administration?
