Big_G Posted March 24, 2018 #76 Share Posted March 24, 2018 Other threads on this but e-cig smoking happens all over the ship. Sucks they do nothing about it. That stuff is truly poison. We were watching a guy smoke one on Freedom a couple of years back. He was hiding it belong the table and every now and then he'd pull it up, take a drag, and exhale down into his lap. His head was on a swivel. I had flashbacks of riding the school bus and watching kids get high in the back seat. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
Big_G Posted March 24, 2018 #77 Share Posted March 24, 2018 Welcome to Cruise Critic. I heard from someone who should be in the know that the RC casinos are supposed to go non-smoking in 2019.I don't know why it's taken so long. It works for Celebrity. Royal2464 Posted March 24, 2018 #78 Share Posted March 24, 2018 Welcome to Cruise Critic. I heard from someone who should be in the know that the RC casinos are supposed to go non-smoking in 2019. That would certainly be great for the crew members who have no choice, or opportunity, to avoid the second hand smoke. It might actually end up costing me money though, I avoid the casino because of the smoke.

Rare cruising sister Posted March 24, 2018 #81 Share Posted March 24, 2018 We just come off the Adventure, March 17th 7 day eastern Caribbean, and we couldn't go into the Casino because there were people smoking almost everywhere in the Casino. It was so bad that I literally could not breathe, had to get out as quick as possible. On other ships the smoking was limited to only small areas of the Casino, you could find an area that was non-smoking and at least you could tolerate the smoke. I did no gambling on the Adventure. Just a loss of $$ for RC. I was on the March 3rd sailing on Adventure and I agree with the smoke. The casino was being used as a big ashtray. The smokers were not gambling just setting ashtrays on the chairs next to them blocking the machines. We also did not gamble or did anyone in our group. Milwaukee Eight Posted March 24, 2018 #82 Share Posted March 24, 2018 Welcome to Cruise Critic. I heard from someone who should be in the know that the RC casinos are supposed to go non-smoking in 2019. Hoping the person was correct. It would be awesome to have a non smoking casino. travelguy9 Posted March 24, 2018 #83 Share Posted March 24, 2018 I saw something a couple of days ago that I'd never seen before since Royal Caribbean went no-smoking in most public venues on their ships. As I was walking along the Royal Promenade on Oasis of the Seas, I noticed a woman on a scooter who had positioned herself facing into a corner between Café Promenade and Kate Spade (formerly the Cupcake Cupboard). It seemed odd that she seemed to be just staring into the corner, but then I noticed her right hand had two fingers outstretched in a way that seemed to be characteristic of how a smoker might hold a cigarette. Then I saw her exhale a cloud of smoke. She then dropped the cigarette on the floor and stepped on it to extinguish it. As she was backing out of her smoking corner, a crew member confronted her. She kept backing up while offering that she had no idea why there were the two (!) cigarette butts on the floor. She then drove away as the crew member watched her go. He seemed both befuddled and frustrated. Oh, heavens, that's a most serious report! The work of a fine detective.
CruisingNole Posted March 24, 2018 #84 Share Posted March 24, 2018 That would certainly be great for the crew members who have no choice, or opportunity, to avoid the second hand smoke. It might actually end up costing me money though, I avoid the casino because of the smoke. While crew member health is important of course, the real incentive for the company to ban smoking would be to get more people such as yourself in the casino to spend money. Rare BillOh Posted March 24, 2018 #85 Share Posted March 24, 2018 I think that if you are 40+ or so, you have seen people smoking. Inappropriate places or not. I don't really understand why you were SHOCKED and APPALLED or felt that it was worth a thread. (or made it appear that way:rolleyes:) Seriously? Nobody drug you in here did they? As I spend another day not cruising and wishing I was, I read the thread. Seriously.

Jana Posted March 24, 2018 #87 Share Posted March 24, 2018 What a ridiculous statement. WHY in the world would anyone spend $$$$$ to rent or buy a scooter on a cruise? :o You would NEVER know I was disabled by looking at me. NEVER You would be the one to look at me and say: She's not disabled. She is fit and looks very healthy. Why is she on a scooter? Well, it is none of your business why, but I AM!!! I don't believe for one second that you are disabled, but if you are, your attitude stinks. Thank goodness for all of the kind and patient pax on my recent cruise. It was my first cruise with a scooter and I was petrified of running someone over. Yeah, I would much rather be on a scooter than walk hand and hand with my incredible husband. Your attitude stinks. Thank you so much for this. I can't believe the ugliness on this thread --about those of us who need to use a scooter. We're fat, rude, too lazy to walk and enjoy hurting people. I'm not a vengeful person but in this case I truly hope that each of these commenters is forced to experience the reality of needing mobility assistance, either for themselves or a loved one. If you think we use mobility devices because we're fat or too lazy to enjoy a stroll on deck, you are sorely mistaken .
CruisingNole Posted March 24, 2018 #88 Share Posted March 24, 2018 If you think we use mobility devices because we're fat or too lazy to enjoy a stroll on deck, you are sorely mistaken . Can you provide an example of where someone made that generalization? I think it's safe to say that there are SOME people that use scooters because they are lazy. I know a person that fits in this category, actually. While I understand someone (such as yourself) that uses a scooter doesn't want to hear this, that's just the way it is. While I understand someone (such as yourself) that uses a scooter doesn't want to hear this, that's just the way it is. This is so true. Many do use them more for convenience than necessity. And many of these people get accessible cabins that don’t actually need them. That is the really annoying thing. Truly handicapped people need those accessibile cabins. Same goes for handicap parking. Watched an able body guy use one at my gym for years and thought to myself what the heck every time I saw it. It is just the way it is. Daghis Posted March 25, 2018 Author #90 Share Posted March 25, 2018 I see that some questions have been asked as to my motive for starting this thread. I know that some of you know have experience with my posts in the past and, I hope, think positively of me, but that may not be true across the board. This thread was not intended to spark a smoking/scooter/disability debate. My only intent was to point out a particularly bad behavior by an individual without regard to any of her characteristics. I mentioned them only for context. It's not that this woman was a smoker or that she was in a scooter that was relevant in my mind; it was merely that she was brazenly flouting the rules in a very public venue such as the Royal Promenade. SRF Posted March 25, 2018 #93 Share Posted March 25, 2018 I would have confronted her. No excuse for smoking in a no smoking area and then putting butts on the floor. OP should have told employee he/she witnessed the woman smoking. If she was smoking there she most likely was smoking in her cabin too. Not fair to next cruiser to occupy that cabin especially if they have lung/allergy issues. Agree she should have been put off ship and charged cleaning fees too. This^^^^ I would have stepped up and told the crew member I saw her smoking and putting out the cigarette on the floor. NO ONE has the right to smoke in non-smoking areas. And I say this with an SO who smokes.

grapau27 Posted March 25, 2018 #96 Share Posted March 25, 2018 What a loser! She should have been reported and thrown off the ship! I agree or at least she should have been fined and reprimanded, this was shocking behaviour.

grapau27 Posted March 25, 2018 #98 Share Posted March 25, 2018 Not "CC Police" as you talk about. Not some minor rule, this is a big one as indoor smoking effects others. Doesn't take much exposure to set off my daughters Asthma... I agree, selfish people don't consider the consequences for other people from their smoking. grapau27 Posted March 25, 2018 #99 Share Posted March 25, 2018 Not me, I'm not touching the disgusting and filthy aftermath of a filthy and disgusting habit. I have no idea why smokers feel it appropriate to drop a butt where ever they happen to finish with it. How many times have you been driving and someone ahead of you flick a still burning butt out the window? Great post and i agree with all your comments.
