I witnessed smoking indoors on Oasis of the Seas!

What is the point of this thread? Does it benefit anyone on CC to hear your story tattling on a stranger? No, it just adds yet another smoking thread to the forum.

People should follow the rules on a cruise ship. I wish they were all completely non-smoking, personally. I’m glad a staff member approached her. But this thread is pointless.

It might be but it might encourage someone to speak up next time they see someone smoking in a non smoking area.

What a ridiculous statement. WHY in the world would anyone spend $$$$$ to rent or buy a scooter on a cruise? :o You would NEVER know I was disabled by looking at me. NEVER You would be the one to look at me and say: She's not disabled. She is fit and looks very healthy. Why is she on a scooter? Well, it is none of your business why, but I AM!!! I don't believe for one second that you are disabled, but if you are, your attitude stinks.

Thank goodness for all of the kind and patient pax on my recent cruise. It was my first cruise with a scooter and I was petrified of running someone over. Yeah, I would much rather be on a scooter than walk hand and hand with my incredible husband. Your attitude stinks.

I would never question scooter use but the smoking was out of order.

Countered with another one. The person did say some, no need to get your knickers in a twist. I do remember the scooter lady from my Allure 2013 cruise, she bruised quite a few achilles and knees because she had to be first everwhere. I remember Disney at the turn of the century started renting scooters and people whose only disability is being 200 lbs overweight would rent them. (Putting on abestos underware. We were sitting watching the Main street parade and a guy in a scooter ran over my daughter because he didn't know how to use it.

Wow you took the words out of my mouth on both comments.

Welcome to Cruise Critic. I heard from someone who should be in the know that the RC casinos are supposed to go non-smoking in 2019.

Thanks Bob,that information made me pleased i started reading this thread 10 minutes ago.

40 years ago i stopped smoking.

We never go in the casino but if it was no smoking i might go in and watch.

I appreciate this thread, I can't believe that woman did that and the crew member did nothing. I also don't understand why anyone would take the time to comment that it is a useless thread. Keep scrolling until you find something useful. Just off the beautiful Allure, everyone was very courteous about smoking areas. Definitely the best cruise we've ever been on, a wonderful ship, I miss her.

I would have confronted her. No excuse for smoking in a no smoking area and then putting butts on the floor. OP should have told employee he/she witnessed the woman smoking. If she was smoking there she most likely was smoking in her cabin too. Not fair to next cruiser to occupy that cabin especially if they have lung/allergy issues. Agree she should have been put off ship and charged cleaning fees too.

I absolutely agree. So sick of people who think the rules don't apply to them. They don't want to be "inconvenienced" but don't care if their behavior makes things unlivable for others.

The things people get alarmed by....

Seriously, cruising is the perfect vacation for you. Don't go to Vegas, and definitely DON'T go to any major city, especially overseas.

It's a CIGARETTE for crying out loud. I hate when people smoke where they aren't supposed to. But first I realized that they are an adult who is still stupid enough to smoke in the first place, so they really aren't that worth caring about. I hate it too. But in the real world, there are d-bags and losers everywhere who skirt the rules. Do you get you panties in a twist when someone passes on the right or double parks?

Every muster drill you attend the #1 fear on all ships is FIRE.!

Where else is this person putting butts out. Smoke won't sink a ship, FIRE will.

Exaggerated but true.

I'm sorry, but having cruised close to 30 times, % wise, I have found scooter drivers to be very inconsiderate of other passengers. I'm not referring to passengers in their eighties or so.

Even those who are elderly and using scooters are quite inconsiderate of others. My young niece was in the WJ and was being very careful not to get in anyone's way. I was standing right beside her when someone in a scooter ran right into both of us. It peeled back the skin on her ankle and required medical attention. I spoke to the person and the woman said "young children shouldn't be on cruise ships. If she wasn't here, I wouldn't have hit her." I asked if that meant she did it on purpose and she said she did. I was dumbfounded. She said she had worked hard and raised her children and didn't want to see or hear children anywhere. I can understand that some children get a little out of hand, and even some adult cruisers get out of hand. That's no excuse to run over a child.

Maybe they rented one because it was simpler to rent one before they got on the ship than have their one from home shipped? Maybe they thought having a wheelchair would be sufficient, but then discovered it might be better to get a scooter to use to navigate the long hallways? Lots of reasons to rent a scooter.

I saw a family "taking turns" with a scooter on our last cruise on the Allure. The father had a visible disability (an amputation), but the children would take the scooter and ride it around the decks and up the Windjammer when the dad was sunbathing. They ran into so many people.

I can see why the other poster said they should have more regulations. Yes, the parents are ultimately the irresponsible ones in this scenario, but still. Not everyone with a scooter has a legitimate reason for having one.

The people you SHOULD be angry about are the ones who abuse having a scooter.

Funny that this comment is coming from the same poster that said they care only about themselves and not the comfort of other passengers when it comes to leaving their balcony door open overnight.

Is the pattern a coincidence? Nah.

Agree. And don't care for the attitude of anyone they disagree with, poster repeats that are the "Cruise Critic Police"

I saw something a couple of days ago that I'd never seen before since Royal Caribbean went no-smoking in most public venues on their ships.

We were on the Navigator a week ago and the crowd was mainly college students. Most were fairly polite and well behaved (other than the drunks coming back aboard in Mexico).

When waiting to board the ship in the waiting area for the Platinum plus passengers in Miami, one college student was puffing away at their e-cigarette in the waiting area.

The first night in the MDR, several people at our table told me that one of the college kids behind me was blowing smoke. He was hiding an e-cigarette below the table and kept puffing at it. I let the Head Waiter know and he watched for about 5 minutes til he witnessed it himself and then confronted the individual.

Two nights later, the college student in front of me in the main theater was puffing away at an e-cigarette in the theatre throughout the entire show.

Following night, the college student in front of me during the Quest in Studio B was doing the same.

This is the first time I have witnessed this indoors on a ship over the course of about 10 cruises. May just have been the cruise we chose this year, but it seems as though those with the e-cigarettes couldn't give a damn about where they could smoke them.

What are Platinum plus passengers?

Someone with mobility issues that chooses to smoke does not care whatsoever about their health.

So you're correct, equating obesity to that is an unfair judgement for me to pass. I recant my previous statement and will say that person is "probably unhealthy."

Someone who chooses to smoke, whether or not they have mobility issues, doesn’t care about their health and worse, doesn’t care about the health of the people around them.

Was she wearing a red hat with white letters on it?

What an inconsiderate woman, she should go on adult only cruises if she feels so strongly about kids.

That sounded like a deliberate assault with a lethal weapon (scooter) to me and i would have reported it in fact she's lucky you didn't sue her.
