Where to park scooters?

Although I have been a long time member this my first post, due to being computer challenged. I am able to read the questions and answers but everything else is very difficult. I am on this sight most days and have learned enough to be considered the go to person about cruises from my friends. My wife and I have been cruising since 2006. We are platinum members with 25 cruises. We are getting up in age and have many health issues so getting around on the ship and especially in the ports is getting more difficult each cruise. Most of our cruises have been in balconies or suites. We will be celebrating our 50th anniversary in September on the Fantasy. We are thinking of getting scooters for each of us and also get an interior or ocean view room as that is all that is left. My question is,is there enough room in the cabin or anywhere else to park them? Thank you all for any suggestions you may have.

You would need to book a HC cabin, not a regular, though you dont say which you booked.

If not a HC the scooter wouldnt fit thru the door. I cant say I like it when people park them in the hallway or leave them near a elevator, but I understand why they do it, they didnt book a HC cabin.

HC cabin will also have the bathroom for HC with hand holds in the shower though you can ask to have a shower chair brought in if you need it. They have them in storage, and we ask our PVP to note it. Still often have to ask the cabin steward to get one, but they do have them if you arent in a HC cabin. My sister has balance issues.

There really isnt a good place to park them imo, if you didnt book a HC cabin.

retired cruzer, Congratulations on your 50th. We loved the Fantasy. Older, but lots of fun.

I sure understand about getting older, but even though we are celebrating our 50th in October, we are still pretty active.

I've seen the scooters in the hall and would imagine two would be challenging to maneuver passed, but unless you can get an HC, they will have to stay in the corridor. I'd check with your PVP on the possibility of an HC opening for you. Good luck..

Must use a HC cabin and MUST park it inside the room

PERSONAL MOBILITY DEVICES (WHEELCHAIRS/SCOOTERS/SEGWAYS)

Wheelchairs/scooters must be declared at the time of booking, or as soon as the need is known by the guest, to ensure they have a stateroom that best accommodates their needs. Only mobility devices operated with gel, dry cell, absorbed glass mat, or lithium-ion batteries will be allowed on board. Batteries can only be recharged in a guest's stateroom.

Due to safety considerations, devices cannot be stored in corridors or public areas. In order to purchase a standard stateroom, devices must be able to fit in its 22" wide entry doorway, and when stored, must allow for safe exit from the stateroom. Guests who bring scooters that are larger than 21" wide, or travel with multiple scooters in the same stateroom, must purchase a fully accessible stateroom with a wider doorway (32”), or rent a smaller scooter appropriately suited for their stateroom.

Guest must be prepared to collapse their device so they can be safely stored in a way that allows for safe exit from their stateroom. If bringing a scooter, please bring one that can collapse or fold so that it may be stored in the closet or underneath the vanity area. Once on board, guests may contact their room steward for assistance.

Guests must drive at a safe speed to ensure their own safety and the safety of others on board. Raised door thresholds are present throughout the ship, which need to be traversed with care. Careful attention must be paid when backing in and out of elevators as they are often in close proximity to the staircase and may be narrow and difficult to navigate. Guests wishing to disembark the vessel on their device must also be able to safely navigate the angle of the gangway while the ship is docked in port. Additionally, if the ship is calling on a tender port, the captain will make a determination as to whether guests may disembark with their device given prevailing maritime conditions and tender limitations.

Mobility devices cannot be left unattended in any venue area unless the guest is temporarily away attending an event and, the device is parked in an area that allows all guests safe exit from the venue. When in public areas, guests must maintain their device clear of any exits or fire doors and ensure it does not obstruct any fire or safety equipment.

Guests bringing a Segway must store it in their stateroom for use at ports of call only.

Clearly the rule about not parking scooters in the hallways isnt enforced. I guess they would have to throw people off the cruise who violated it to enforce it.

Ive seen plenty parked in the hallways.

We've seen them gone the next day and people are heard grumbling getting them out of their cabins so they must be monitoring these situations somewhat but not as much as they should.

We recently sailed on the Fascination. On the afternoon before leaving for Puerto Rico I received a call asking if we would take a free upgrade from an inside on deck 6 to an ocean view on deck 7. After being told what was above and below this cabin and a quick view of the deck plans, I agreed to the upgrade. What I did not notice was that this cabin was designated as handicapped.

The location of this cabin was perfect for anyone with mobility issues. Just a few steps off the atrium and the stairs and elevators. Now, I only thing we noticed different about this room was the larger bathroom and handrails and built in seat in the shower. Also, there was no lip on the threshold between the hallway and the bathroom. I suppose you could get a wheelchair or scooter through the door but, there is no where to turn it around or maneuver it once in the cabin. This cabin was the smallest of any cabins I have been in. No couch or table. Just a chair against the wall. Maybe a foot and a half of space between the foot of the bed and the wall and less than that from the bed to the wall with the window. I suppose this was because of the larger bathroom. There was no place to store a scooter.

Maybe someone else who has stayed in a "handicapped" room can say if this is the norm or if this room was truly for someone with a wheelchair or scooter or for someone who needs a cane or walker. I would not try to get a scooter in this room.

Scooters are not allowed to be parked in the hallways ,, Maritime law . Safety hazard in an emergency

Scooters and wheelchairs need to be IN YOUR CABIN.....it's unlikely that a standard cabin will have a door wide enough. You will need an accessible cabin if you must use those devices.

Yes they must be in cabin. No you don’t always a HC cabin. The thing is when you travel and use scooters you must buy one that fits the needs of travel. My 55 lb scooter that has a 14 mile range folds into the size of a suitcase without disassembly or tools.

In the accessible cabins the rooms are often the same size as regular rooms with a bigger bathroom. You could not store 2 scooters. We had to sign to say the person needed a disabled room and would be responsible for storage and give dimensions of scooter etc. We stored it in the bathroom. So you would at least nead an ambulatory accessible room and it would be tight I am afraid.

We cruise with my parents and mother in law and have rented scooters for them. There are different size scooters depending on the users weight....on the Breeze the regular size scooter fit through the door of a regular balcony cabin. However, only one would fit in the room which would not help you....and you do have to back out. You would definitely need a suite for two to fit in the room. The company we use is called Scootaround they rent to Carnival ( I think we got their name from Carnival) and can tell you if the scooter will fit through the door of your cabin. I believe the small scooter will handle a rider weight up to 325 pounds and the width is 22.25".

This is from the Scootaround web site:

Cabin Size: Average cabins can range from 120 to 220 sq. ft.

Doorways: Average door width can range from 22" to 27"

Hopefully this helped...good luck!

Unless you are totally disabled and can't walk at all this is the room that disabled guests get. I can walk a few steps unaided but find it a struggle in these rooms . I have MS . I bring my folding wheel chair as it's easier to maneuver but don't know that OP could manage with two scooters unfortunately.

The Disabled Cruisers board has lots information.

There are some scooters than fit thru the regular Cabin doors. The rental company will help you with that.

If at all possible get an ocean view or inside Cabin. (Not too sure about the suites). If you put the beds in an L shape you should have enough room for both scooters. Search ‘Quad’ for some pictures.

Biggest problem would be electrical outlets. One 110v and one 220v, Euro or British.

Hope you and hubby have an amazing cruise and a very happy anniversary. If you have sailed fantasy class before the HC rooms are exact same layout but with a seat in the shower. The space by the bed and the vanity is where you would have to store the two scooters. Very tight I am afraid especially if you need to get up at night to use the bathroom. Sorry there is no where else for you to store them. Hope it all works for you.

Thank you! I've been asking for weeks how wide the cabin doors are and no one has answered before.

Thats one big difference between RCL and Carnival for HC cabins. RCL HC cabins are a bit larger than regular cabins.

I got moved to a HC 4j and it was smaller than a regular inside on Triumph. Awful. The bathroom took up half the room ... and I was solo. The beds would not have been able to make a L, they were end to end. I wasnt asked, just changed without my knowledge or agreement.

The only thing I can think was in the past we had booked HC cabins, and the system thought I needed one or would want one, who knows how i got changed without notice or emailing me. It is actually my sister who is HC, not me and she wasnt on the trip.

Happy Anniversary! I hope you have a great cruise! I suggest you give Carnival's "Guest Access Team" a call. Their number is 1-800-438-6744 ext.70025. For our cruise earlier this month, I called them to discus my mom's needs and they were great. She uses an oxygen concentrator and we were renting a wheelchair. They had all the specifications and went through everything with me. You'll want to go through them anyway to get assistance with embarkation/debarkation. I think they may be of help!

Doorways in standard rooms are 22". You must deduct 2" for the door clearance, leaving 20" of space available for a scooter to fit through. All scooters MUST be stored in the staterooms. This is a SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) regulation, not a Carnival rule. Carnival does and will enforce this; however, it often requires a guest to file a notification, as the security team is stretched to thin to monitor the hallways for this. If they ship is inspected and scooters are found to be stored in the hallway, Carnival can receive fairly heavy fines.

OP, unless you have really small scooters, the likelihood of storing two in a room is remote. I have heard of people doing it, but if you have mobility issues you may not be able to maneuver around them within the room. I would recommend planning a little bit farther out and making sure that you have a fully accessible cabin where you could store one scooter in the room and one in the bathroom.

There are companies that rent small scoters that are the right size for the cruise ship. On our last sailing on the Fantasy, I notice a company delivering some to the ship for passengers. I did not notice any being stored outside cabins but I did see a couple parting their monster stroller outside the cabin.

Thank you all for the information and suggestions.I failed to mention we are already booked in a grand suite, My wife got one of the casino promotions from our last cruise that had very cheap rates for interiors and ocean views. If the scooters would have fit we could have saved more than a few thousand dollars. Since this will probably be our only 50th anniversary, I suppose it is worth it no matter the cost. I looked at our room on youtube and there is plenty of room. Thank you all.
