So this is not really another thread about Formal/Chic nights, but more about general dress code.

...says casual wear(shorts and t-shirts are fine during the day, but the evening is 'Smart Casual' described as pants or jeans for men with a sport shirt.

Is this the same for all ships?I ask because I was on the Reflection a few years ago and don't remember coming back from hot excursions in Athens only to change out of shorts into jeans.

As I'm typing this, I may be answering my own questions....what is the dress code in Blu? We certainly would've had dinner. Are shorts allowed in Blu? I'm not talking cutoffs or cargo shorts. A nice pair of linen shorts with a V neck stylish tshirt.

I just don't remember packing that much, but maybe we did. Can you wear shorts in the casino? How strictly is this enforced?

Shorts, no matter which kind, are not accepted in MDR or and definitely not in BLU anywhere any night.

(We are talking men´s shorts here)

Wearing shorts in Ocean View in warm destinations is not uncommon.

shorts are not allowed at dinner in any of the dining rooms. It is the same on all the ships.

Perhaps you came back from your excursion and went to the buffet.

We're not much of a buffet style couple. We would've gone to Blu. We must've changed and I simply don't remember that portion.

So, I guess I will go back to my original question....let's say we opt for the buffet or room service for dinner....could I still wear shorts in the evening to the casino or simply relaxing at a bar?

Yes

You could but you might be the only one.

On one of our last cruises a couple came back late from an excursion. Shortly before Blu´s closing time they asked if the husband, wearing shorts, could enter like this because they just got back and tried to make it before closing time.

They would not let him in but said: Sir, don´t worry! Take your time getting changed and you will still be served.

Is that a joke....or you only do TAs because that is not the norm on other cruises.

Don, the only ones I don't do any more are Caribbean. I think I've done a few cruises and very seldom do I see someone in shorts at night.

Do you go anywhere other than the Caribbean or do you do most of your cruising online?

Alaska, Bermuda, Caribbean, Edge in January and Canada and Bermuda next summer. Do not do TAs which is probably the reason you made that comment because on the itineraries I mentioned it is certainly not the case for the past few years.

Most of the itineraries I do are European. As you well know, Alaska and the Caribbean are more casual although I don't see too many shorts any time in Alaska and Canada. Of course you will see more in Bermuda and the Caribbean but most men don't wear shorts in the evening unless they're hanging around the pool/buffet deck, which has always been the case.

What's your point?

My point is I disagree with you which I will respectfully do...

After doing a little research on the average temperature for our destination and the month we are going, it looks like it may be a little cool in the evenings for shorts anyway. So my question may have been moot.

That's why I said what I said. Japan and China in March are probably in the 40's in the daytime.

I disagree with your comment in post # 10 "You could but you might be the only one" and again I am posting this respectfully.

Respectfully, I guess I'm wrong if there are many people who wear shorts when the temp is in the 30's at night.

If you want to wear shorts after dinner go right ahead. For myself if I'm the only one in shorts that is fine. I'm sure that the people on 2nd dining dont go back to their cabins and change to long pants because some people are going to 1st dining.

Shorts are fine anywhere during breakfast/lunch. Afterwards they are fine in the buffet & yes, the Casino(fine there anytime)At dinner a pair of slacks & a collared shirt. You can dress up on "Chic" nights, but again smart casual is ok.

Yes. Many will be better dressed, but the dress codes apply mainly to the restaurants.

Usually not 30degrees in the casino or a bar...[/quote

I must admit that my first thought was that for me (not a frequent shorts wearer) 30 degrees would seem like shorts weather. Then I remembered that the US still uses Fahrenheit, so 30 degtrres is cold! Today in Toronto it is 31 degrees and I am enjoying our air conditioning.
