RoyalUP? (Bid for stateroom upgrade)

This bidding process is going to have far reaching effects across all areas.  From the definite "amputation" of the upgrade fairy wings to the actual price offered on line or any purchasing avenue.

Remember the other day I told you that the only thing available on my 1/6 Anthem 12 day sailing was a loft suite.  through the auction process you could bit as high as 3000.00 per person to upgrade.  the price through casino royal was 10,000.00 to pay outright.  Since then the high bid has gone to the ability to bid as high as 5000.00 per person.  After waiting 1.5 hours on hold yesterday while I did some paper work I was told that the cost to upgrade through casino royal is now 17,500.00 total.  Outrageous in my eyes.  What we are  seeing is the trickle down affects of these "auctions."  As the guaranteed money being put on credit cards in the form of "bids" coming in they can shoot for the moon for unsold cabins.  Unfortunately a lot of us including myself are taking the bait and in the process making cruising a lot more expensive.  They have us over a barrel.  IT'S  GENIUS!!

Not sure what people get so upset about.  The cruise market like most other markets are about supply and demand and what people are willing to pay.  THIS IS A BUSINESS.

RCL, and every other cruise line, will try to sell cabins for as much as possible.  If you don't like the price/value on RCL try another cruise line, if they are also too high do something else for vacation.

The general rule is to book the cabin you want when you first make your reservation.

NEVER COUNT ON OR ASSUME YOU WILL EVER GET A DIFFERENT CABIN OR A LOWER PRICE FOR THE CABIN YOU BOOKED.

Just got the news I was hoping for. My bid was accepted. As I said before it’s our 30th anniversary and I was willing to spurge a bit. I was also fortunate enough to have 2000.00 put towards the cruise from my visa rewards when I booked months ago so what the heck. Went from junior suite large balcony to sky loft suite 10722 for 1500.00 each more. 12 night sailing. You may think I am nuts but I am very excited that our bid was accepted. I am going to surprise my wife when we board if I can keep my mouth shut. 😀

Congrats  Please report back after your cruise as to whether you got the full suite bennies since that seems to be the gray area whether you do or don't get them

We received an offer last week for an Oasis sailings for next week.  We did not bid.  We just received an SECOND offer today for the same cruise.    We are booked in a balcony.  The first  offer had a JS and a few other options.  The second offer no longer includes the JS, but lists several sky and star classes.   I didn't look back to see if the offers  are the same price.  Still not interested.

We cruise next week too.   I put in a bid for fun and was told that it was "weak".  I am happy where we are and I know others have bid on the same room so our chances are very slim.

Insides have dropped to $349pp, Oceanview are $629pp and balconies are now only $449 pp

sounds like self upgrading would have been cheaper.

Within the final payment window there is nothing in the contract that says RCL has to let you upgrade at all.

They may allow self upgrading because it helps them however they could stop doing that at any minute and only allow upgrades within the window using this new program.

FYI, another cruise line I have been on uses a 120 day final payment window.  Nothing stopping RCL from going there.

Also, RCL has shortened the price match guarantee window to 48 hours, even if they are not enforcing that yet no reason they will not start soon.

Everything that you say could happen.   Point is what you stated is not the current practice by Royal.

Price match guarantee has me we entered into the equation and deals with refunds not upgrading.

To confirm....if you are currently in an interior, outside or balcony......and you get accepted for a bid for a Junior Suite or higher, you do not get double points right?

Correct - no double points unless you were already booked in a category that offered them.

 This Sunday, the 9th

I got the offer to bid with JR suite being the highest category a day or two ago.  Nothing sense.  I think the odds of winning any bid would be small anyhow.  Likely a waste of time and hope for almost everyone.

Correct, unless at the time they accept your bid, the JS price has gone down to equal or below that you are paying.

If what you will be paying is lower than what is on Royal's website for the JS, then no extra C&A points.

What does this mean? What extra perks? CL/SL access?

Grand Suite
Grand Suites offer a comfortable bedroom, a living area, private balcony and extra perks for guests.

Depends on the ship, what ship?

For Rhapsody, full suite (GS and better) perks are:

The reason I asked is that I am turning "P" on the RH TA and D+ has already been banned from the CL. I know the LA May or may not give me a "Gold Card" , I'm OK with that. So winning the bid for the GS would give me  one. Does that make any sense?

According to a newly minted pin onboard now, the answer is no Gold Card

Correct, you would get a gold card if you are booked in a Grand Suite on Rhapsody.

However, they normally open the huge aft lounge for all Diamond and above on transatlantics.  It's actually quite a nice arrangement.
