Well, I won't be sailing Edge anytime soon in light of their pricing and comments.

Then, please explain the basis of your question/comment?

Never mind, I believe most of us know the answer already.

Yet, thank you for your thoughts about dining on a ship for which you intend not to sail, for a very long time.

Bon voyage

You may be correct. I suspect even on the Solstice Class ships the percentage  of traditional diners eating in MDR everyday is low.  The enhanced options in four    MDRs with no surcharge will just lower that percentage IMO.  It also provides an additional advantage to Select dining.

We had three Unique MDRs on our Disney Cruise.  The staff and diners rotated between the three rooms.  Only traditional dining was available, while moving cruisers away from having the same servers and table each night even in Select Dining.

Also Celebrity wishes to have people use the extra fee dining options for obvious reasons.

Just another step away from Traditional dining IMO.

I Am sure that I do not agree with the statement concerning "extra fee dining", the four (4) dining rooms offer additional variety at no additional charge.

Bon voyage

I would like to at least try the Edge someday, when the pricing stabilizes, but my wife and I really like the Solstice Class ships.  I think it matches our needs perfectly when cruising in a suite.  Of course I realize that we are fortunate to be able to spend that kind of money on a cruise  but the Edge is about 50% more expensive.

Yes, it is approximately that if one purchases through conventional sources.

Pretty much so.  We used to be able to afford a Suite from time to time, but as you noticed with the offer of the 4 perks prices have sky rocketed.  Just like Edge suites are 50% more for you, they want double for  a normal veranda for a 7-night cruise.

I did not mean to imply that the four new dining room at an extra fee.  I meant to say that the additional use of alternative for a fee dining pushes people away from Traditional dining.

My non conventional sources based my OBC on a percentage of the costs.

Are yours different, such they would impact the cost differences between cruises?

The four perks and the introduction of Luminae and Michael’s Club sure have increased the demand/prices for all suites.  Our first suite experience was before all the changes.  It was on a TA with you and it was a last minute upsell for very little extra.  Those days are long gone.

Yeah, they raise prices well over $4-5K, give you  perks which virtually costs them nothing, and it makes you feel special.  Great marketing on their part.

Those days are not totally over.  You can still get good last minute deals on certain cruises.  Right now you can get a suite guaranty on a 10 day Argentina/Brazil cruise in February for $1549.  There are no perks offered by Celebrity, however.  You can get an aqua cabin for $819 on the same cruise.  Both those rates are resident offers, so they may not be available to everyone.

Yes, a 10-night cruise  for the 17 Feb 2019 sailing, Suite GTY is $3600, AQ GTY is $2153.  Cost to fly to/from Buenos Aires a boat load of money.

The follow-on 11-night cruise for a Suite GTY they are asking $8550, and for an AQ GTY, $3949.    The Suite is the Military discount, and the AQ is the resident discount for SC.  There's no real deal there.

It's a shame that those on traditional dining don't get to try the specialties from the other Main dining rooms, if only on rotation, i.e. each night the specialties from your restaurant and one other other are available.  Then  again it could be a way to nudge people to anytime dining.

I suspect after a while they'll know which of the 4 restaurants is least popular and traditional dining will fill that one first, creating more space in the others for anytime dining.

Maybe.  I suspect that after a while they will eliminate Traditional Dining altogether and let people dine wherever they want.

You must not be in one of the states Celebrity is offering the resident discount to.  The suite GTY rate is $1549 for my state.  Not bad for a 10 day cruise.  Airfare also is not to bad right now.  I had the cruise on hold, but decided to take a cruise in May instead.

You were looking at the per person rate, and yes, the state resident rate for a Suite GTY is $1549.  When you add the port charges of $257.56,  it will cost $1806.56 X 2 = $3613.12.  That's without round trip air fare.

Anne:

This is what they said when the dining was first announced last March:

"If you choose Traditional, you will be assigned one of the 4 dining rooms with the same table and waiter. Celebrity will assign the restaurant - the restaurant assignment will be in your stateroom on Day 1.

-Guests may request to dine in a different main dining room, based on availability - you will have a waiter that works in that dining room for that night (waiters stay in their assigned dining rooms). You can also request change to another dining room for the whole cruise, based on availability.

-If you want to request to be assigned to a particular MDR, it is suggested that you email CelebrityDining@celebrity.com and they will forward the request to the ship and try to accommodate you."

Great info … thanks …

Juat off the Dec 9-16 cruise, and we had Select Dining.  we made all our reservations online well in advance and had no issue.  We rotated through all 4 dining rooms, eating at 3 of them twice and the 4th one only once on the seven day cruise. Enjoyed the 4 separate dining rooms.

We did speak with some people that had traditional that were assigned to one restaurant but wanted to try the others and It was difficult unless you wanted to eat very late.

I believe they used the restaurants on deck 3 for traditional, but select was in there also.

I can only suggest that our 24 Nov 2019 sailing in an IV E1 cost approximately $200 more than what we paid three (3) years ago on Silly for a 1A cabin similar itinerary. This includes two (2) perks as well.

We plan between nine (9) to 18 months out too, which may account for a few of the great deals and additional OBC received.

bon voyage

I am confident that you did not pay a premium for your cruise 3 years ago, so I would conclude you got a really good deal on your Edge Cruise.

Congratulations.  I would think everyone would consider a $200 premium over a price 3 years ago for the similar itinerary on the Edge an outstanding deal.

The  Silhouette is my favorite Celebrity ship. (Not that it matters)

S class ships are my spouses favourites, as well. I happen to like the M Class because of their size...

It does matter that Silly is your favourite X ship, each of us has a favourite to one degree or another...

Since I book most of the travel, I also get most of the agita afterwards for not booking what I know my spouse likes etc... yet, the good fortune is, that on most cruises friends go along with us and they LOVE the X ships I select so the 'general' upset and questions are mitigated by that...

I do know if friends are not wowed by The Edge in Nov 2019, I may be sailing her on my own in the future... LOL

If you have time,  more info would be much appreciated.

What is your opinion  of  each of the MDRs ? Did you fav a personal favorite?

Were you seated close to your res time?

How was the quality of food,  service?

How long did  the meals take?

Was there a sommelier for wine service ,

Did you like the decor/ ambiance...was it quiet or  a loud din? Were tables sep enough,

Thanks a bunch!

We first sailed on the Zenith and loved it. Went bigger to the Mercury and Century class then on to the Millennium class and then to the Silhouette class.  Favorite was the Mercury. The ship was perfect in size and function and the Both the Royal suites and the Sky suites have never been equaled in out opinion.

We had reservations for 6:30 every evening. There was maybe 1 or 2 parties at most when we got to check in.  As soon as we were checked in, we were escorted to our table. I never saw really long lines even when we left. The first night was a bit slow, but all the others moved along at a nice pace. We were out in plenty of time to either go back to our cabin or walk around a bit before the 9:15 pm shows.  They open the doors to the theatre 30 minutes prior to the shows.  Show times were concsistent at 7:15 and 9:15.

Quality of the food was good in all 4 MDRs and seemed to be a bit better than previous cruises. there was a sommelier each evening.

I liked each restaurant and the different decors. I would have to say I liked Tuscan the least as it was a bit darker in decor.

Cosmopolitan is used breakfast, lunch on sea days and for the Concierge embarkation lunch.

tables for two were separated about the same as on S class ships.  We did notice more larger table for 6 and above. Each night we know were asked if we wanted to share, and we did about half the time.  It was nice to speak with dithers at dinner and get their feedback on the ship also.

Very good info...was the lunch in Cosmo an extra fee or included?

Glad to hear they had a sommelier..dh likes wine with dinner

btw... I started a thread on the EDGE board about the MDRs..so  you could also post this there,  it was helpful too re the theater..and the option to share tables some nights..

Yes, as I do not look for much additional OBC from my seller of travel. I primarily look at the base pricing on the cabin selected (either a 1B or E2) and with that savings I can usually get two (2) perks for at most $220 p/p for which the cabin savings more than covers.
