Did The Upgrade Fairy Totally Die Since RoyalUp?

The noticeable thing on here is how enthusiastic people are to bid on Royal Up which will justify its introduction by RCCL.

I think it is the same people that enthusiastically buy The Key!

Yup....just like the old song "Ya don't know what you got till it's gone".  😮 😞

That's true Pat but we will always be Royal DS.

We got an upgrade once from a midship balcony to a JS at the back of the ship.

I wonder how many people got free upgrades because now there seems to be plenty of cabins available for Royal Up?

If we were Royal newbies the key might have been something we would have looked at so like Royal Up it is a win win situation for those that want to participate.

Some can’t stand that their are people willing to pay for the RoyalUP, buy the Key, and so on.

Supply and Demand.

I applaud Royal because these are both money-spinners that people are actively participating in so it is a win win for Royal and the passengers who buy.

Personally I always pick and pay for the cabin we want and insructed no upgrades on the old Royal C&A page.

You forgot the most important terms:

21. General Terms & Conditions

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has the right to terminate the Crown & Anchor Society® Program (“the Program”) or to change the Terms and Conditions of participation and benefits, in whole or in part; at any time without notice.

Doubtful they'd ever flat terminate C&A but that would motivate me to check other cruise lines. Loyalty should be a 2 way street

I agree.  The free upgrade program, originally set up to sell lower priced cabins at the last minute to fill the ship, has come and gone.  It is now a thing of the past.  For years now, ships are sailing totally full.

Even further back..you could actually check in at the terminal and ask for prices on unfilled cabins for upgrade.  Also a thing of the past.

And yes....Royal DS is the the best program anyway.  Cheers my Royal DS friend!  🍷

Since we can all agree, the Fairy has most likely passed away, I'm waiting for RCI to omit the verbiage from their C&A benefits.   Come on now, is it really a benefit if there is no chance of it being used?

Crown & Anchor Stateroom Upgrade Policy Our ships regularly sail at full capacity. Therefore, opportunities to upgrade are offered on a limited basis. If available, upgrades may be offered at the sole discretion of Royal Caribbean to Diamond Plus and Pinnacle Club. To determine which members may be extended an upgrade, we will consider the member's Cruise Points and tier level, stateroom category paid and booking date.

Has anyone received this benefit since the Royal Up program started?  If they have, I'll eat my hat.

I would say your hat is quite relieved to know that it is not scheduled for your dinner plate now, or at any time now,  in the future.  😉

Do you think they would still sail full if they decided to do this?

Yes but then remove it from the C&A benefit listing.

The backtracking on the D+ internet withdrawal shows how they must be careful and yes terms and conditions do state the C&A program could be withdrawn at any time but the popularity of C&A means this would be a catastrophic business decision.

I thought they mostly are nearly full. The Fairy has been out of sale for a while.

Royal Up and The key especially from what I read on CC is exceptionally popular with passengers.

The withdrawal of the C&A program in particular the DL/CL and Pinnacle benefits would be a massive mistake.

The Upgrade Fairy sadly resides in Havana Cuba along with the cancelled itineraries and sadly may not visit us again. The RoyalUp Fairy is alive and well. Now maybe there is a Guarantee Cabin Upgrade Fairy that visits and grants us better cabins.

Fair Winds to the Upgrade Fairy it was a nice ride but you never visited me so I bid you farewell!

I guess we were lucky and got in at the end of the Upgrade Fairy's reign.

Yes you are Bob! Our GTY Cabin on the first part of the B2B is still unassigned so I'm assuming we should do RoyalUp or else be prepared for the Interior Cabin. So far not many triple cabins left. Its a tough gamble. Heck I am willing to part with $120-$200 for the first 2 passengers for a better cabin.

Same here on a 2018 Harmony Sailing - booked a GTY interior and got a Boardwalk Balcony.  I refuse to bid for upgrades that further endorse corporate greed over customer care and loyalty - and I wish our fellow passengers would also boycott the practice in favor of enabling it to grow worse.

We need to keep the balance in check and call them out for siphoning our loyalty benefits as the years go by. Speak up, arm yourself with applicable logic, and make your desires known to RCI.

I have a hope that, in time, the financially and value-critical millennial attitudes will grow and challenge these business models as our expendable income reaches maturity to shift the travel industry.

Definitely. They need to update their loyalty benefit tiers to remove all benefits that we no longer get or are minimized.
