Sunset suites - question

This category has shown up today on our Connie cruise for next August, it’s never shown up before and it already says Sold Out, I’ve tried googling it but it takes me to a X page that’s expired, so my question is 2fold, is it going to be a new cabin class after the refurb? where does it sit in the ‘hierarchy’ of cabins and what benefits will it attract?

This category also shows on my nov 2020 Eclipse cruise with an intriguing picture and marked sold out. The Eclipse as it stands now will not have her make over yet.

Looking forward to knowing more about them.

It looks as though it will be a new classification of suites.  Looks as if it will be a category between a Celebrity Suite and a Royal Suite.  I would guess, and that is all it is, that it would have the same amenities as a Signature Suite on Reflection.  😊

I read something, I think on here,  that on the S class the current 4 FVs would be redone into Sunset  Verandas.  I thought it was strange to call them Sunset since the FV on SClass ship are far forward.

Maybe they will be sailing into the sunset.  😁

I saw something a while ago that the M Class would have Sunset Suites.  Perhaps they are replacing the Family Verandas on decks 7, 8 & 9.

Probably a good bet & Sunset Suite would be a good name since they are aft.  They are also showing as Sold Out on the SClass Cruises.

if all the FVs become Sunset Suites, then no reasonably priced cabins for families with 3 children.

Very interesting. I wonder if that conversion is happening throughout 2020 and it seems to be independent of the big revolution. It's a cute name but we have SV category, bound to be confusing. It didn't seem to indicate benefits the same as RS. More like CS. I wonder if they will take out the second bedroom?

Families I suppose will be having connecting insides or cabins.

I just booked a "Best of Japan" cruise in 2022 on the Solstice and there was a black box with a price but no rooms in the selection of suites between Royal and Celebrity.  I was told by Celebrity that it was the Sunset Suite and that it was not in their system yet.  There is a quick link to the Sunset suite here on Celebrities web site but not a lot of data:  https://www.celebritycruises.com/things-to-do-onboard/staterooms/suite-class/sunset-suite.

It is my understanding that this is part of the Revolution upgrade, but was not included with the Equinox, which had a modified revolution upgrade with little to no changes to the suite class.  I was under the impression from talking with them that the first chance to see a sunset suite will be the Silhouette upgrade starting in January 2020.  They will be bringing the Equinox back for the final retrofit at a later date (to be determined later).  Not sure what they are going to do with the 2 millennium class ships that have already been refurbished.

Much as I would love a signature class on board, based on the pricing and the description, the Sunset Suite will not be a Signature suite, but looks to have the same attributes as the Celebrity suite ie (no free specialty dining and no drink setups in room).  You get most of the other perks free for the first two travelers in suite class (wifi, premium drink etc).

I am told Celebrity will announce the new suite class in about a month, I would if it will coincide with the Silhouette revolution upgrade.

We are considering a Sunset Suite on Silhouette. Some questions. I think it was a former FV?  Did the FV have a balcony? It is front of the ship so assuming it would be very windy?  Maybe a better and cheaper option would be a CS?

@TeeRick,

I talked to a Future Cruise Consultant during our Dec/Jan Solstice cruise.  She told me that the 4 FV cabins at the front of the ship (we were in one of them) were being converted into Sunset Suites when Solstice is drydocked for her Revolution makeover in late 2021.  Consequently I was unable to book an FV cabin for a Dec 2021 Solstice sailing.  However the Sunset Suite was available in their system to be booked.  For 4 people on a 14 night holiday (Dec/Jan 2022) holiday cruise it priced out at $25,000.  A Sky Suite was $15,000.  Based on my experience, I would have expected an FV to price out at $12,000 for that sailing.

I posted a lot of details about the S-class FV cabin and their conversion to Sunset Suites last month here: link

Here is the floor plan for the S-class FV along with the dimensions:

Reflection FV 8107 floor plan.jpg

Here are two illustrations of the S-class Sunset Suite on Celebrity's website: link.  It would appear that they are going to take the 2nd bedroom and convert it into a nice walk in closet.  However it would also appear that the bathroom dimensions will not change which means that will be standard (non-suite) sized.

The S-class Sunset Suites will be as large (if not larger) than a Royal Suite.  However the layout will not be as nice.  I would consider the Sunset Suite to be superior to a Sky Suite but inferior to a Celebrity Suite.

I think Celebrity found that the FVs rarely sailed with 5 occupants. For my family of 4, I found them to be an excellent non-suite quad cabin alternative.  I will be sorry to see them go away.

Hmmm,  the pricing numbers look interesting based on your info.  Here is a link to the Best of Japan Cruise on the Solstice in 2022.

https://www.celebritycruises.com/booking-cruise/selectRoom/stateroomType?pID=SL14I152&sDT=2022-04-10&sCD=SL&sCT=CO&roomQuantity=1

This will take you too the booking window for suite classes.  Hopefully you will see a black box between the Royal Suite and the Celebrity suite.  the price is listed at $10799, the Royal is listed at $13,299 and the Celebrity is listed at $9,699.  When I contacted Celebrity they told me that the black box was in fact the Sunset suite.  Based on the pricing, it is difficult to see how the Sunset Suite would be as large as the Royal suite.  Pricing puts the Sunset only $1100 higher than the Celebrity suite and $2500 cheaper than the Royal.  If that is case, from a pricing perspective, the Sunset Suite would be a great buy over the Celebrity suite (465sqft/85sqft balcony) at 150 sqft larger & 33sqft  more balcony. It would also be a larger cabin than the average royal suite as well (538sqft/195sqft balcony).  So, if the amenities package is the same as the Celebrity Suite not the Royal then that might make up a lot of the difference, but it still feels really cheap for a suite that size. I also find it interesting that they would name a forward cabin a Sunset Suite, aren't sunset suites usually in the aft of the ship.  Oh well,  hopefully we shall see,  according the the website the first Sunset Cabin is supposed to be on the Silhouette when it get out of dry dock in Feb 2020.  What is interesting is that you can book FV cabins on the Silhouette in October 2020. Maybe the upgrade won't be put in until 2021 for the Eclipse and the Solstice.

I just checked the deck plans for the Eclipse for our Australia cruise and shows a new cabin class on deck 14 where they have taken out the conference centre and part of the Sky observation lounge.

It looks like all the FV rooms are being kept.

Curious to see if these new cabins will be noisy with the lounge going until 1am and the sports court above them

Based on recent information, it appears that the additional suites in the Sky Lounge have been dropped from the Silhouette dry dock plans.  We'll know for sure in a couple of weeks.  Perhaps they will also change the plans for the Eclipse.

We are on Eclipse which will now be shifted for renovation dry dock to October this year.  We booked a cruise on board for Silhouette in 2021.  They had all 4 Sunset Suites available but no floor plans or info.  But they are in the front of the ship and probably noisy and the balcony will be windy.  Not good for the cruise we booked (Norway). We opted for the hump CS instead which was actually much less expensive.

I think you made a good choice. One minor point: as far as the Sunset Suite balconies are concerned, they are on the side of the ship and have an enclosed area that is well protected from any of the elements  We have sailed in them 6 times and in general I've not found them to be windy.

I found an impressive "Amenities Grid" Excel spreadsheet published by Celebrity which has the new Sunset Suites listed.  The spreadsheet is a very large matrix that lists every available amenity (rows) against every individual suite category (columns) with check marks that show which suite classification has which amenity.

I cannot figure out a way to attach the file in its original Excel format, so I am attaching this pdf (which you will need to magnify): Amenities Grid 091719 pdf

In Celebrity's chart, the Sunset Suite is put in the same suite group as the Sky Suite and Celebrity Suite with pretty much the same amenities s those suites.  Furthermore, it appears to be ranked as being in between the two suites.

Also in this chart (dated Sep 2019), the Sunset Suite is acknowledged as being only for Silhouette which we know is not true today.

This is excellent, I cannot save your pdf can you post the original location of the grid? It would be very helpful have a copy.  To bad it didn't give you the aprox size of each cabin class.

I was chatting with friends who was on the Equinox, according to them, there were several things that did not get the full revolution upgrade.  The extra cabins (Sunset Suites?) near the Observation Lounge were not added, very little was done overall with suites,  some cabin classes did not get bathroom upgrades, just the main rooms, Casino-no gaming upgrades, etc.  I guess the damage to the docks during retrofit was pretty extensive.  Not sure what the issue is with Silhouette and why it is not getting the full revolution upgrade, unless it is just too much work for the time allocated.

Sorry.  I can fix that.  I think that the permissions for downloading have not been turned on for this file. Give me five minutes.

BTW, the extra Equinox cabins that were going to be taken from the Sky Lounge floor space I believe were supposed to be Signature Suites and a Reflection Suite--I think they were copying Reflection's deck plan.

And yes, the drydock damage forced Celebrity to cut back on the original scope of Revolution work.  For Equinox, that makes sense because they lost drydock time plus the accident happened very close to the time she was scheduled to be worked on.  On the other hand, I am not sure why Silhouette is not getting the full Revolution makeover.
