Bidding during Corona

Has bidding still been happening during the Corona?  Has anyone had a bid accepted?

Not going to be any bidding because they have no idea what capacity they want/need the ships to be at.

Bidding just moves people from one cabin to another...it does not increase or decrease the number of people on board, so capacity isn't an issue here.

I wouldn't bid until very close to sailing date. Less money that you will be waiting to get refunded if the cruise is cancelled.

I haven't heard anything about anyone bidding lately, but I imagine NCL would be more than willing to award your bid and take your money.

At this time I would definitely wait before booking any extras or bidding on an upgrade.

Bidding was open on our late-April cruise until the day NCL canceled the voyage.

As it appeared as though cancellation was inevitable, we withdrew our bids so we didn't tie up more cash in the FCC/refund process (we were in a Haven room bidding up to a Owner's Suite).

Agreed, but not knowing the cabin configurations post COVID-19 .... they can't move people just yet.  What I mean by configuration is that they may be ordered to occupy every other cabin so categories may be impacted thus actual capacity is as well.

It's just a mess and until they have direction as to what is required there's a whole lot of guessing.

Is only filling every other cabin really necessary?  Seems like a lip service attempt to satisfy safety concerns.  I just can't see how having every other room occupied will prevent the spread of anything.  When I enter my cabin and close the door, am I not socially distanced from the people in the cabin next to me?

Incorrect...people in cabins won't be the issue...inside the cabin you are distanced from others. Any capacity issues or social distancing will be need to be addressed in the public areas...not in the cabins. Having people in all the cabins isn't the issue, the issue comes when they all try to crowd into the atrium, the casino, the bar, etc.

94% agree with you..... there may be hard numbers per muster station / life boat which impacts stateroom capacity......

I also had mentioned that that there is no way anyone can be correct or "incorrect" until all conditions are communicated by the cruiselines and governments...... all we are doing is speculating until that time.

I agree bids will be accepted but at the same time they may be cancelled based on these unknown regulations...... I wouldn't bid right now because I wouldn't want to chance getting that accepted bid held as FCC.

Incorrect...some of the cabin doors are very close to one another. They may need to leave some of those cabins empty so that you are not too close together when you are coming and going from your cabin.

I don't know if that would really matter much.   People will be walking past each other in hallways where they can't help but avoid being close.

This won't even be a consideration.

I think it would be more likely that they would close alternate decks per cruise if need to cut capacity. Could disinfect full deck and leave empty for a week. Staff would shift from deck to deck weekly, cutting the amount of staff needed to start.

That is very sound logic and actually makes a lot of sense.

BirdTravels, as esm54687 said above (post 12), how can we be incorrect when no one knows what is actually going to happen? I should be able to speculate what may happen as much as anyone. I wanted to tell SeaShark that they were "incorrect", especially since they are fond of starting out a response with the word "incorrect".                                          I look forward to cruising again someday, and hope a treatment is found for the virus, so they can fill all the rooms if they want to.

Back to the original topic of room bidding. My March 29 cruise was canceled. When things started getting really sketchy I canceled the upgrade bid I had for the cruise. The day of the cruise I got an email that they were unable to upgrade me. LOL

Very funny!  Before my March 22 cruise was cancelled, I had been debating bidding, but decided my balcony cabin was good enough. So glad I never bothered bidding. Just wish that I hadn't purchased thermal suite passes right before the cancellation.
