New Cruise Prices?

For the same cruise cancelled 3/20 and rebooked 10/21, it came about the same price for a much worse class of room and going from several to no shorex. This is assuming getting much more than 30%.

 

I applied 30%, then 10% discount. My cruise credit was boosted by 50% rather than the 25% that most got. I had rebooked 2 cruises with the credits under some amazing 50% discounts, but they were cancelled. I gambled for a distress deal, but may be lucky to get anything for my money.

Not just for expiring cruise credits, but for better deals than when things do clear up.

Well, let me help you with that.  I'm booking far enough out that we are likely to be cruising again.  If we don't, I can always cancel - no harm; no foul.  Then by shopping selectively, I'm getting decent pricing while reserving the ability to re-fare my cruise in the future if prices drop.  I've done that on my last three cruises pre-COVID.  Finally, I found and booked a cruise that today is 40% higher in price on the ship I want, in the cabin I like on the schedule that fits my cruising desire.  That's why I (and others) are booking now.

I booked with cruisenext and 10% off discount.  We also added our adult son (so he's free).  Dividing the total cost by three....it's still more per person than we paid pre-covid.

 

We booked Joy 10700...which is a family OV...and according to the deck plans...super huge.  

 

Anyway...I like cruising.  For us, for many reasons, it's still a better choice than a land vacation.  And although the price is higher, it's still a reasonable cost.

 

However, I wouldn't add "any new money" until ships start to sail!

 

Anyway, if this one (Oct 2021) doesn't happen....it's on to 2022.......

i would be very careful.  if ov means ocean view cabin, they really are not that big, i dont think 3 adults would be very comfortable, and oftentimes, the description of the cabin is different from the actual cabin.  check the square footage of the cabin. anything less than 200sq. ft you'ill be stepping over each other, not to mention using the bathroom/shower.

 

just an upfront fair warning. iwould suggest you pay a little more and upgrade to a club balcony

Oh...I am very careful.  Take a look at the deck plans.  All of my research on the XX700 cabins...all huge.  This is a family OV all the way forward...they are much different than regular OVs.  If you can believe the deckplans, ours is even bigger than this one on youtube!

Insanity is defined doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.  One reason prices are insanely high for a product that is not even operating yet are the constant re-bookings and reshuffling of money.  One cruise is cancelled and the deposit gets switched for another cruise and so on and so on.  Its like the carrot in front of the donkey.  The donkey never gets the carrot but he keeps trying.  If everyone stopped booking cruises that wont happen then cruise lines would have no option but to crash the prices for when they do sail.  So many times on this forum the cheerleaders will always beat "supply and demand" to death.  Clearly that is what is happening now.  People are paying for cruises that did not or will not happen.  Its keeping inventory low during what should be a vast array of empty cabins.  Prices would not be this high if people were not booking or re-booking.

NCL's prices are insane. I'm done with cruising.   I don't know why anyone is booking a cruise unless stuck with a credit.  I have cruise next certificates bought on a prior cruise and booked two cruises.  One was canceled because of COVID and the other in December 2021 I expect is likely to be canceled (who knows).  To book these same cruises for a future year is outrageously expensive now.  If NCL doesn't go bankrupt, my cruise certificates are worthless because I'm not paying $9,000 for  a cruise ship standard balcony room (double last year's price) or $16,000 for a basic 2 bedroom balcony (not Haven).  For that much money, I could plan a luxury land-based vacation on one of many Caribbean islands.  Even if I pick a less expensive time of year to cruise, it's still outrageously priced.  Hating on NCL now.  I hear other cruise lines' prices are just as bad.

Even with the "insane prices"...for me...cruising is still a great value.  All the food I want, entertainment, transportation, shopping & casino....all included under one roof.  I'm willing to pay more, but I don't want less.  How much more?  Probably a lot more.  Transparency...10 minute cab ride and I'm at the pier.  No fussing with other (plane, hotel etc) reservations.

 

I do think the days of "stuffing 4 adults" into one cabin  and other "uber inexpensive" cruising are over.

 

NCL, as well as other lines have a long way back financially.  I think it may take a couple of years until "those last minute give-aways" come back.  Their target market is going to change.

I don't see how anyone would spend money on anything (or make any travel plans now) with all the uncertainty.  Booking with credits (no new money) is another thing.  I fully expect my 10/21 to be canceled.  Maybe my 9/22 will be a go.

When cruising comes back (crystal ball says 2022) we will see what is offered and the prices.  As I said...I'm going with "new target market".  The "new cruisers" won't know the old prices.

Disappointed you think your 10/21 cruise will be a no-go! At this point I stand by my prediction you will sail. 🙂

We cruised Feb of 2020. We book another cruise coming in Jan 2022. The price difference is about $50/night/cabin. Nine day cruise is up $450.00. Given the pent up demand for cruising and vacations I don't t think this is some crazy price increase. I agree with you; base on our previous experience, prices are quite reasonable.
