RU and LU Codes

I have taken two Carnival Cruise back in 2011 & 2012 while the kids were younger. Now we are ready again to start Cruising on our own (I guessing in late 2022/Early 2023) I see a lot of talk about RU and LU Codes. I never received any codes by email as far as I remember. How do I get these codes?? Are they sent by email or do you find them in the current offers on the VIFP offer page? IF on the VIFP offer page do I have to keep checking this page every week??

Thank you for your time.

I received an e-mail this morning with a code.  It was for free WI-FI.

The problem is that it is only for new reservations, and is not applicable to either of the 2 Carnival cruises that I have booked.

David

Most have been allowed to rebook at the higher new price. The free wifi costs the same as the free drinks on us, which isnt really free. Costs more than just early saver.

My other caveat is changing to one of these fares, you lose the price protection early saver has. These fares are non refundable and do not have price matching after final payment.

Sign into Carnival, click on your name, then my profile, then my offers and see if you have anything listed there.  I usually check every month to see if any new offers have come up

Update: I emailed my PVP from 2012 and asked him if I can start receiving offers since I was planning a cruise for 2023. The next days the offers started coming in, I currently have 11 and my wife has 10. The problem is will all the offers I can only reduce the price by $35 each for a 8 day cruise. I even got the Drinks RU9 & Wi-fi LU9 which were a real insult.

So will offers improve if I wait to book or is this all I can expect??

Thank you

Kevin, there’s no real rhyme or reason to the offers you receive. I’ve been on 32 cruises and since they know they have my business, my offers won’t be as good as others who only have one or two cruises under their belts.
Every once in a while I’ll get a decent offer, but most of the Drinks on Us or Free WiFi type offers are much more expensive than just early saver as others have pointed out. I do get casino offers, but nothing spectacular, usually just money off rates and $25 or $50 on board credit.  Good luck!

I would question Carnival because We booked a pair of B2Bs, a while later saw the Cheers offer for both cruises. Called Carnival and added the cheers but to only one set of B2Bs. They said only one offer per person allowed. Got an e-mail and decided to try again, had no trouble adding the Cheers to the second B2B. Cost a slight fee for both but well worth it.

I disagree about it being random. I'm sure there is some data Carnival is using to decide who gets what offer. It's just that we have no idea what that is so it appears random to us.

(I wonder if it might be that big drinkers get the worse offer, because Carnival knows they'll lose a lot of revenue if those people drink for cheap. While they aren't losing much revenue by giving the better Cheers offer to cruisers with a history of being light drinkers. We're in the latter category and got the RU2 offer, but one data point does not a conclusion make.)

if you play in the casino, they are the best rates you will see. our casino rates are usually free inside rooms or big discounts on balconies. usually with some on board credit or casino cash. many of ours have been tax and port fees only. but, we end up giving them a pretty good amount back in the casino.

lol, well we can make it 2 data points if that helps.  A week after we booked a cruise for next April my wife got an RU2 offer in the mail.  I didn't think it would apply to our then current booking and and we have never gotten Cheers anyway so we ignored it but now I think it's too late to even bother checking if I can rebook with a discount Cheers.

On a weird related note - we also recently booked an Alaska cruise and got OBC that is only for bar tab.  Not much (I think a hundred bucks) but I was gonna drink a couple beers anyway so might as well have them free.

I saw it when I went to book.. chose the room type, then I was given the opportunity to book RU2 (cheers)..  maybe do some mock bookings and see what you can find..
