I’ve eaten in Share twice & loved it both times. Besides the Chef’s dinner it’s one of my favorite places.

I second that Curtis Stone is not appealing and maybe it's time to remove and replace with Alfredo's on Grand Class Ships

I am a cynic and  wonder why Ruby Princess would cancel October sailings in July because of a dry dock schedule.  Wouldn't they know about going into dry dock months ago?  Seems strange that we made our reservation in January 2021 and now end of July they say oooops, we have to re schedule the Oct 24th sailing, but you can go the following week, Oct 31st .  They will refund the money for cruise, tours and everything.  But from what I read we won't get reimbursed immediately, so it will be another $4,000 out of our pocket.  (they say the price won't affect us, even though it went up $300 in that timeframe).  What happens if  we make new reservations for the following week and they again say, sorry still in dry dock.  that would be another $4,000 out of pocket.  We could go broke spending, then waiting for refunds from Princess

I also think it's odd. I booked the 10/31 sailing way back in 2020, just after our March 2020 cruise was cancelled. I thought surely things would be somewhat back to normal by the end of October 2021, but I never envisioned dry dock delays.

Our Oct 24 Ruby cruise was just cancelled, Princess say they don't have enough time to get ready after dry dock, I think they are just rolling two cruises together.

Dry docks are done every x years. As expensive as they are, it is not financially responsible to do one a year or 2 ahead of schedule.

It states it was updated 12 days ago, but I obviously can't speak to whether it is 100% accurate. I went searching for the info after being told by a reliable source that Caribbean Princess would be in drydock on the West Coast in 2022 (that ship has never been this side of the pond before). The schedule confirms this, although there has been nothing official from Princess yet and cruises on the ship on the East coast are still being sold....so who knows?

A lot of the dry docks were closed for a time because of covid. So there's also a backlog to deal with. It's probably not quite as easy as it seems to us sitting at home.

We've cruised on the Grand out of SF a couple times.  We're booked for the Ruby for Thanksgiving and again over Christmas.  I looked at the menu for Share and was not at all impressed.  I was really hoping Share would be replaced with something more appealing while in dry dock.

Dry docks are typically every 3 years and it is actually time for the Ruby Princess to enter dry dock.

The yards were either closed or running at reduced capacity due to the pandemic. Until the yards started to open up again I suspect the shipping companies had no idea when they could get into dry dock.

 

Sitting at anchor can do more damage to a ship than moving around.  It can lead to a greater amount of sea life growth on the hull, etc. and entry of barnacles etc into the sea chest which circulates cooling sea water into the heat exchangers, etc.

I’m on the October 31st cruise on the Ruby. Wonder what the ship will do for 16 days? Interesting to see what happens since this will be the first cruise since the Pandemic & the first out of dry dock.

For one thing, they will be able to go to sea for a shakedown cruise and quarantine everyone.  During the drydock, I doubt they will meet CDC isolation guidelines.

This does concern me.  What if someone tests positive during the shakedown cruise.  The quarantine clock starts over again.  I'm trying to be positive, but I still worry about this cruise happening.
