Keeping my fingers crossed it will happen. We've done most cruises out of San Francisco on the Grand, this will be our first time on the Ruby. We also have done most of cruises out of SF on the Grand. We have r/t Hawaii scheldued in March on the Ruby. I will miss Alfredo's and Sabatini's. Curtis Stone doesn't appeal to us at all. tulefogg Posted July 30, 2021 #30 Share Posted July 30, 2021 I am a cynic and wonder why Ruby Princess would cancel October sailings in July because of a dry dock schedule. Wouldn't they know about going into dry dock months ago? Seems strange that we made our reservation in January 2021 and now end of July they say oooops, we have to re schedule the Oct 24th sailing, but you can go the following week, Oct 31st . They will refund the money for cruise, tours and everything. But from what I read we won't get reimbursed immediately, so it will be another $4,000 out of our pocket. (they say the price won't affect us, even though it went up $300 in that timeframe). What happens if we make new reservations for the following week and they again say, sorry still in dry dock. that would be another $4,000 out of pocket. We could go broke spending, then waiting for refunds from Princess

I thought surely things would be somewhat back to normal by the end of October 2021, but I never envisioned dry dock delays.

My October 10 cruise on the Ruby Princess was cancelled according to Princess because of being in dry dock. There answer seems kind of fishy to me as to why any dry docks would be scheduled now. Thanks! Tom😀 Our Oct 24 Ruby cruise was just cancelled, Princess say they don't have enough time to get ready after dry dock, I think they are just rolling two cruises together. Rare PurpleHays Posted August 1, 2021 #33 Share Posted August 1, 2021 We had an October 2022 TA cancelled due to dry dock. 2022!! They've been shut down for nearly 18 months and couldn't do the dry dock then? It's crazy.

As expensive as they are, it is not financially responsible to do one a year or 2 ahead of schedule.
Rare ceilidh1 Posted August 1, 2021 #36 Share Posted August 1, 2021 I just posted the drydock/wetdock schedule for Princess in this thread: Caribbean Princess Drydock? - Princess Cruises - Cruise Critic Community It states it was updated 12 days ago, but I obviously can't speak to whether it is 100% accurate. I went searching for the info after being told by a reliable source that Caribbean Princess would be in drydock on the West Coast in 2022 (that ship has never been this side of the pond before). The schedule confirms this, although there has been nothing official from Princess yet and cruises on the ship on the East coast are still being sold....so who knows? It's probably not quite as easy as it seems to us sitting at home. 1

We're booked for the Ruby for Thanksgiving and again over Christmas. I looked at the menu for Share and was not at all impressed. I was really hoping Share would be replaced with something more appealing while in dry dock.

Dry docks are typically every 3 years and it is actually time for the Ruby Princess to enter dry dock. The yards were either closed or running at reduced capacity due to the pandemic. Until the yards started to open up again I suspect the shipping companies had no idea when they could get into dry dock. Sitting at anchor can do more damage to a ship than moving around. It can lead to a greater amount of sea life growth on the hull, etc. and entry of barnacles etc into the sea chest which circulates cooling sea water into the heat exchangers, etc.

Tom🤔 For one thing, they will be able to go to sea for a shakedown cruise and quarantine everyone. During the drydock, I doubt they will meet CDC isolation guidelines. This does concern me. What if someone tests positive during the shakedown cruise. The quarantine clock starts over again. I'm trying to be positive, but I still worry about this cruise happening.
