Ideas for 18 to 20 year olds on Celebrity Cruises?

My 19 turning 20 year old son just discovered there is no basketball court anymore for our Celebrity Silhouette sailing! Has anyone had any experience with young adults on Celebrity Cruises? Do they have any “cool” organized activities for this age group (especially boys)? Love to hear any suggestions or ideas you’ve come up with. We are going to be on a holiday cruise. I’m hoping there will be other young adults in the same boat (no pun intended!) 😀

Celebrity isn’t really the perfect fit for young adults looking for younger minded activities on a cruise ship, yes I’m sure there are some that like bingo and the good old $10 trash sale but actual activities designed for that age group I can’t say I’ve ever seen any on any celebrity cruise I’ve been on 🤔

My only recommendation would be not to cruise celebrity 🤷🏼‍♂️

What time of year/holiday?  If Tgiving or Xmas there will be young adults their age.  If they are outgoing like my kids were, they made friends wherever we went.  They’ll have a good time most likely.

This is going to be my kids 9th Celebrity Cruise. They have loved it throughout the years. My youngest has always had a great time on the court - even saw the Captain playing once! Unfortunately, it’s no longer there and he’s outgrown all of the teen lounges. But I definitely agree, other cruise lines have many more activities for them!

Yes, it is at Christmas and that’s exactly what I’m hoping! Thank you!

Maybe hang out at the gym?  What happened to the ball court?  What replaced it?

The Retreat Deck is now there. They’ve redone the ship completely. Excited to see it, but my son…not so much. 🤣  I love the gym idea. He does like weights and bikes. Thank you!

The big draw for teens and young adults was the sports court.  As you mentioned, it is no longer present on that ship.  There are few activities for young adults and you have to hope that he meets up with others his age.   Personally, I would never consider Celebrity for a person that age.  We did Royal Caribbean for our young adult.

Teens that age generally go to the teens club and meet others and    tend to hang out in their own way around the ship.

As much as I hate to say it there is one activity they can get involved in which of course you have to be careful of and that is the Casino.  They are allowed to gamble on Celebrity ships at 18 except for Alaska.

He’s actually looking forward to trying out the casino! You are correct - I’ll have to monitor that one carefully!

Took 3 grandsons aged 15 to 22 on Celebrity.  There was the sports court and ping pong.  There were younger children but only 2 others their age.  Our cruise was Spring break time. Without the basketball court would cruise on ROYAL.  Did a Thanksgiving cruise on Royal.  A couple hundred kids of all ages.

I'm currently on Equinox and they still have the Basketball court.    I'm not sure if Silhouette was configured differently.

I believe the ‘Revolution’ on Equinox was not completed, due to the crane accident where Equinox was in dry dock.

Subsequent Dry Docks have been carried out in Cadiz, Spain. Hence, Silhouette’s was completed.

Jim,

You mentioned the lawn on your post about your 10k daily walk.

This is all that remains of the lawn on Silhouette.EFB0A49A-16F8-40CB-99C3-757349A424F8.thumb.jpeg.009aa0dbb38e7e23fe23e750fbaad8aa.jpeg

That is what I originally had responded to as I have not been on Equinox for YEARs.   I thought I remembered on Silhouette I could do it as I was a Suite Guest and could pass the Suites Only sign without being challenged.

Here is an idea, go to RCCL and don’t sail Celebrity with that young of people.

Just off Edge and there were two 19 year olds from Canada. We were all in the suite class.

Saw her during the cruise and asked, have you found any young people? She responded found a couple under 30.

Cheers

Thanks to everyone for your responses! We orginally booked our Celebrity Cruise when onboard pre-COVID on a ship that had the basketball court at the time. With all of the cancellations, we still want to cruise Celebrity, so I was looking for ideas since 2+ years have passed and we still have this cruise for 4 people booked. I would lose a lot of money changing cruise lines, but thanks for that thought. I'm sure my kids will still have a great time and happy to go on a vacation!

There are no organized activities for adults (of which both your sons are). It's not a camp for adults. Just the usual. If either of then are gay, they could go to the LGBTQ mixers. Maybe the gym?  My daughter is 30 and she made friends with other 30 somethings and some of the cruise staff. Otherwise just the usual activities.  I would guess they don't like shuffleboard.

Group events and meetings have been limited for most on board.

On EDGE, pre Covid,   I believe they had some events geared to young adults.... like indoor archery.  Maybe a splash party, movie party and sad to say, they hogged the outdoor hot tubs!.  Depends on the time of year. If there are enough of this group, there will be things to do,.  Le Petit chef animated dinner & the  Silent Disco (dancing with the headphones) look like fun for  older teens .  Get a good internet package!

There may also be some active excursions..

Jeeps, ATVs, golf cart rental... zip lines, hikes, water sports,, bike rentals.

Depends on ports and limitations due to Covid.

One of our ports is Bonaire and I’ve heard there are golf carts to rent there. I’ll have to look into that! Loved your other ideas above - we are planning on Le Petite Chef. That’s one specialty we haven’t tried yet and looks like fun! And happy to hear they might have a few activities like the Edge. Thank you!

Arranging activities in ports that our son would enjoy is exactly what we used to do for our son at your son’s age! Contrary to comments from others about RC suiting your son better our son began to ‘outgrow’ the activities on RC by the time he was about 17 (been, seen, done it…). Active days in port followed by leisurely pool days on Celebrity suited him just fine!

We always involved him in planning excursions etc and were often surprised he sometimes preferred a cultural rather than an action based activity. Travel really does widen ones outlook. We always ensured he had electronic devices for quieter times and we also enjoyed family card games and playing chess. Looking back it was really valuable family time.

I am sure there will be enough other young adults on board for him to socialise with poolside or in the gym (look out for any arranged pool volleyball activities etc). Have a fantastic cruise!
