My husband says sequins aren't his thing - will you accept pearls? 🙂 🙂

If it's like any other formal night. nobody will be turned away for not following the evenings suggested dress code. Feel free to glue glitter, rhinestones, pearls or any other bling to a paper mask. It's your vacation. Who cares what others think......😆

We were on the 8/22 Majestic cruise to Alaska.

Masks required in the casino -- yes.  However, we noticed a lot of people hanging around smoking (not gambling) -- we felt some people were taking advantage of the situation to unmask as they certainly could go outside and smoke.

Although there was a sign for the elevators, we noticed that they were very crowded.  We often took the stairs or opted to wait for another elevator.  Only time we saw someone enforce the mask rule was on 2 occasions in the buffet.

We have always observed this on Princess ships that there is almost no enforcement of all the rules they have.  The casino is basically a smoking lounge where people do not have to gamble.  Wish they would be more like Las Vegas where some of the casino properties have started to ban smoking such as the Cosmopolitan.

It has been our experiences that many cruisers think the rules are for others and not themselves.  This is why we are still considering canceling most of our upcoming cruises because we just do not want to be around selfish passengers who are really not going to wear masks no matter what the rules are.  It will not be much different than what is going on in the country right now.

Here's the Princess stance.....

"First, we strongly encourage guests wear face masks when in public spaces indoors. ALL guests will be required to wear a face mask – with no exceptions – in elevators, retails shops, in the casino, and other designated areas except while eating and drinking. Guests will also be required to wear face masks prior to being seated in our main dining rooms and in the buffet area, and occasionally in other designated areas where larger number of guests may congregate. As a reminder, masks are required during embark and debark in the terminal, and masks should also be worn during the debarkation process on board."

We were on the Aug 22nd sailing.  I did carry a mask around to put on where the signage said it was required or when it got crowded.  The areas where masking was required were well marked.  We did not wear it where it was not required, bellied up to the bar, walking down the hallway,  It was not that bad.

If this is the policy, I’m ok with it. It could be a lot worse.   It used to bother me about wearing a mask on vacation but quite honestly, the longer this pandemic lasts, the more I’m realizing that we are in a new world and it’ll be with us for a long time.

So why fight it. It’s helping to protect our fellow humans. We are embracing it and making the best of it

I didn't realize Tony Orlando was still alive, let alone performing.

He’s very much alive and still performing. I took my parents to his show two years ago for their anniversary and I was beyond surprised by how good the concert was.

Are masks required in the casino?

Is smoking allowed in the casino?

Is there a limit of number of people in the elevator?

Are rules enforced?

We were on the 8/29 sailing of the Majestic, and masking wasn't a problem for us. Yes, it was enforced. Masks were required in the casino, and I'm frankly not sure about smoking. We're only in the casino on our way through to somewhere else. There were signs outside the elevators limiting the number of people, but there wasn't anybody there enforcing that. There were only 1900 people on the ship, and I never saw an elevator with more than six people in it. Mostly, we had the whole elevator to ourselves.

Not sure how things are on Princess ships, but for a reference we recently completed a week long cruise to Alaska on a HAL ship.  Everyone had to show proof of vaccinations and while masks were not required once on board they were strongly encouraged when indoors (outside of your stateroom) and most seemed to be following that advice.

Was that before or after the cruise lines made the changes requiring tests for even those vaccinated, as will as adding the masks back in some areas of the ship.

We had ~3,300 passengers on the 8/8 Alaska sailing. It was also a casino vip cruise. The casino was crowded. Masks were required. Smoking was allowed. There is no bar inside the Majestic Princess casino. The Double Down bar is in the lounge on the port side of the casino. Tables games and the starboard side slots were nonsmoking. Port side machines were the smoking section. The two formal nights were nonsmoking nights in the casino. As a nonsmoker, I gambled more on the two formal nights and during the day when the casino was less busy and less smoky.

Carnival updated its casino protocols, effective yesterday. Perhaps Princess will follow suit?

New Carnival protocols:

To promote safety, physical distancing and public health, we have updated our onboard casino protocols, effective Saturday, September 11.

Casinos are for active players and their companions only; there is no gathering in the casinos otherwise.

Seats at gaming tables and slots are reserved for players only.

There is no smoking in the casino unless you are seated and playing.

Smoking will not be permitted in the casino when closed.

Guests will be expected to wear a facemask unless they are smoking or drinking their beverage.

The casino bar is closed; drinks will be delivered to casino players by our bar staff.

We appreciate our guests’ support of these protocols implemented with everyone’s best interests in mind.

Masks were required and worn in the elevators, although passengers did disregard the elevator limits at times. It was easy to wait for the next elevator, or, as I preferred, take the stairs to get some exercise.

People can debate whether the current Princess mask policy is too lenient or strict, in the casino or elsewhere. However, I felt passenger compliance with the stated mask policy was good, and I didn't observe the need for a lot of enforcement measures by Princess.

Does it show my age if I start singing " tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree" LOL!
