We are currently on the Emerald Princess Panama canal sailing. We boarded and headed directly to guest services and inquired about an upgrade from our casino interior to a balcony. We were told that after all requests were in they would work on them that first evening and we would get a call in the morning. Sure thing, around 8AM we got a call asking if a particular room would suit us, go visit it, your medallion would let you in and get back to us. It is a port balcony on Baha about twenty doors down from our booked interior. We accepted it and since we had not unpacked the night before we were in by 9AM..... NO CHARGE!!!!

Jim

Same thing happened to me today. After boarding yesterday, went to ask about available upgrades (I was in a balcony). Never heard back, but when I asked this morning, they said they had already moved me to a mini-suite, pending my approval. And, like Jim, this was free!! Excited to have that extra space for a 10-day cruise, it makes a big difference.

Received this message today from Princess.

Hello Mr. Barton,

Currently there are no upsells available for your cruise. Please keep an eye on your email and junk/spam folder. If an upsell becomes available, you will receive and email with offer and details.

Thank you,
Liz Cheney

Princess Cruises Upsell Department

It will be interesting to see if I hear anything from Princess.

Fingers crossed for a Mini Suite.

Tom😀

We received an upsell offer from our TA this afternoon for one leg of our upcoming B3B.  The offer was for a lower end suite for $699 pp. We did not take the offer.

Wow....wondering why they would give this away for free?

Do you have past passenger status?

I'll try to keep this short, but this story has some twists and turns. I originally booked, through my TA, the April 9th Enchanted Transatlantic 14 day for $3980 solo with the amenities package. I thought, not bad but I really wanted to do the B2B with Northern Europe but that was on offer for over 8k at the time and man, I couldn't do that as a solo. Fast forward, after haunting the Princess site, I saw that the price had dropped significantly on the first leg. No amenities but balcony on the Sun deck forward only $1121 total. I asked my TA to see about making the switch and to see about adding the second leg as well. She just didn't see the point! What??? I cancelled the cruise with her and booked with Princess. So far so good. More haunting, the second leg came down. Booked an ocean view for $1357! Solo again! Then I was contacted by Princess and told that they just upgaded me to a balcony midship on Caribe on the transatlantic half of the sailing. Great.  Loved everything, but I figured I was on a roll, so one more call to Princess to see if I could just stay in my Caribe deck balcony and drop my ocean view on Sun deck on the second leg. Just called this evening. They moved me from the second cabin to allow me to stay in my Caribe balcony for the whole 25 days. Total cost $3021, 25 days, transatlantic and the Baltic. And they threw in $100 OBC. It pays to keep calling!! And haunting!! Maybe they just want me to quit calling.😁

This is only my 2nd Princess cruise, after an Alaska in 2019. Can't speak to their ultimate motives, but with a fairly empty ship, maybe they hope to engender goodwill and future business? (In which case, they have won big points with me.)

I’m not sure how long the leg is but that doesn’t even sound like a reasonable offer. Wouldn’t it make more sense to make a reasonable offer that customers would likely accept. I don’t get it?

when on board, and requesting an upgrade / upsell at customer service ...

1) do you request specific upgrades / upsells ?  Example - from a deluxe balcony to a premium deluxe balcony , or to a full suite ?

we 'might' accept an upgrade to a club class mini suite and deal with the tub/shower combo - but would not accept an upgrade to a regular mini suite without the club class dining.

it's only a 4 day cruise, anyway ... but we have previously accepted an upsell to a PH suite about a week prior to boarding , also on a 4 day cruise

That's what we paid for our upsell to a suite from a balcony cabin on a 10-day cruise. It helped that we paid very little for the balcony to start with. We had a great time and enjoyed the suite benefits, especially breakfast at Sabatini's. It was worth $70 a day to get to experience the suite life once in our lives for my birthday cruise.

But it sounds like you paid $70 a day or $700. The amount listed in the original post was $699 pp. I'm not sure how long their cruise was that's twice what you paid.

Upgrades can result in spoiling customers when they are booking their next cruise. Sometimes it’s hard to book a lower class cabin once you experience a higher class.

Maybe we are the only ones that have experienced this (lol) 😂

They give it away for free because the ship is only half full, they have an amazing hotel staff starting at the top, want the future of your cruises to be with them, etc. etc. etc.

Were you given a complementary Interior Cabin from a Casino offer?

I've heard that a lot. My husband told me that after we had our first balcony, he could never go back to an ocean view cabin. So I booked us an inside instead. The amount of money we saved paid for our flights, excursions, and onboard expenses. After we took an upsell to a suite, we booked our next cruise in a balcony and still had a great time. Since then we've taken cruises in insides, ocean views, and balconies. They've all been fun.

This is exactly what happened to us.  When we first starting cruising we booked inside cabins.  Then we received an upgrade to an Outside (window) cabin. So, we started booking Outside cabins until we received an upgrade to a balcony. Then, we started booking balconies until we received an upgrade to a mini suite.

Now we only book mini suites.  I think that is where we will stop because I do not see an upgrade to a suite coming our way!

Lol…. I sadly justify it as you only go around once 🙂

And don’t give up on the idea of being upgraded to a suite. It happened to us several years ago and guess what…. it’s been very expensive for each booking after that (lol)

Totally understand we are the minority of being spoiled. And as I said in above post, it’s my justification we only go around once.

Its great you enjoy all your cruises regardless of cabin and agree you can save a lot of money 🙂

I hear you! Our FCC's had piled on so our next B2B we upgraded to CC and then a PH. Going back may not happen after that!🥰

Princess did that once for us...and we had 3 cabins...all upgraded for free from Balcony to Mini-suite.  Of course, it then addicted us to Mini's for most other cruises.  LOL!

but...........port fees, taxes, drink package, wifi package, crew gratuities.......not included.

Thank you, Jim.  I have the same offer (Princess Plus included) but my cruise isn’t for a few months. I called the Casino department to inquire about an upsell or upgrade and they wanted a whole lotta money.  I said, thank you but I think I will wait to see if I get an upgrade.   I was told that an upgrade normally does not happen when you receive a free cabin so your information is great to know. Thanks again!
