I think people in that situation probably have Covid when they board  and testing  at pier is negative because viral load is too low to capture on rapid test. And IF they have no sysmptoms they could very well be unknowingly spreading.  And if they don’t have another test lets say before 5 days, next test could be negative again because viral load has passed!

Testing has to be just the right timing.

My question - didn’t CDC change quarantine to 5 days if you test negative at that time?

Rapid tests are quick, but can be false. PCR are more reliable, but delays to get results can be long.  If Oceania really wanted to be safe, insist that everyone get PCR test before sailing at the dock. There are rapid PCR tests. That way, positive cases would not board.  It would be safer.

We’ve booked our PCR for the morning of the 26th. The clinic is supposed to have at least 48 hr turnaround for results. For an additional $40 each we can get faster results. I’m planning to ask if we need to upgrade when we get the test. It’s my understanding that they don’t check for the test at embarkation and just do the antigen test there.  The first test is required to be eligible for a refund in the event you test positive later.

I thought that the PCR needs to be a lab based PCR and that Rapid PCR tests are not lab based.  Am I wrong?

While it is good to know what Sailsafe SAYS I would love to see how it is presented and what they actually DO financially with the lost days when someone is quarantined?  (cash... Fcc) Not what they SAY they will do.  Hope that makes sense.

For that I would need a first hand account from someone who WAS quarantined before I really trust a thing as to how smoothly it would go in that event.

If it is you paid with cash you get cash or you paid with FCC you get FCC that I clearly understand but it seems vague at the end imo

Well, if it's a matter of trust that O will or will not do what SailSafe says, then does the fact that it's also in the ticket contract make a difference?

5g. Known or Suspected COVID-19 Case After Boarding...' Under these circumstances, if You have a known or suspected case of infection with COVID-19 and You are disembarked, refused re-boarding, or quarantined, You shall be entitled to a prorated future cruise credit for the unused portion of the Cruise Fare or if required by law, a

prorated refund for the unused portion of the Cruise Fare.'

That is after all, legally binding for both parties. (The part that's unclear to me is 'if required by law'.) If you still have doubts/concerns, seems to me that trip insurance should allay all of it since most policies are covering Covid-related issues.

Or you could start a thread asking for first hand accounts.

Jan: So sorry that you are not on this cruise. As it turns out, we have most of the ports intact (though Antigua is now on a different day) and all is as good as can be expected including essential safety precautions like Covid era just-to-be-safe quarantines.

As aforementioned, the casino is currently closed. But, like many O regulars, I was surprised to learn that there was still (ever?) a casino on an O cruise ship.👀😉

I am sorry also but truly it worked out well for us as Stu has had eye problems

I have already booked another B2B in April..

Enjoying the cruise through your posts..

Now that is a good question.

The answer can be found in the SailSafe FAQs:

If I test positive for COVID-19 during a cruise and have to quarantine, will I receive a full refund?
Guests who test positive for COVID-19 during their cruise and are required to quarantine will receive a pro-rated cash refund or a pro-rated Future Cruise Credit. If a guest followed all of the cruise line’s health and safety protocols, the Cruise Line will coordinate necessary onboard COVID-19 related medical treatment, required land-based quarantine and travel arrangements to get the guest safely back to their home. Complimentary onboard medical consultations and treatments are provided for COVID-19 related illnesses as well as dedicated isolation accommodations should the need arise. If a guest follows health and safety protocols and tests positive during their cruise, the Cruise Line will coordinate necessary onboard COVID-19 related medical treatment, required land-based quarantine, and travel arrangements to get the guest safely back home. The cruise line will cover all costs incurred for shoreside treatment, quarantine, and transportation that are not covered by the guests’ travel insurance or should a claim be denied. We will also cover the same costs, that are not covered by the guests’ travel insurance or should a claim be denied, for identified close contacts if they are required to quarantine on board or are removed or denied re-boarding due to being in close contact to a guest who tests positive.
All refund requests must be made within 90 days of the date they canceled their voyage or the scheduled embarkation date, whichever is earlier, or they will be entitled to a Future Cruise Credit for the amount specified. To apply for a refund guests should contact Guest Relations.

We already know what the legal mumbo jumbo is in the Sailsafe.  Someday I will see how it was actually applied to a case.  None of the people commenting here..... including me..... have first hand knowledge of a quarantine event and how the mighty answer  "Sailsafe" was applied.   Let's move on I give up. Sailsafe is King.

You can get rapid PCR tests in many airports (at $200+ per person and results in under an hour).

Should you have dinner with  another couple and one or both of them thereafter tests positive, would that require you to be considered “a close contact” and forced to quarantine?

Not sure if anyone has an answer but it’s something to think about.

Because Oceania operates in the US, it is subject to regulation by the Federal Maritime Commission. “‘Mumbo Jumbo’  is not allowed.” And, if you are lucky enough to live in California, put !!! at the end of that since Oceania is subject to regulations governing “sellers of travel.”

However, there are countries/states of residence without those protections, in which case someone might be subject to FCC only.

Don't pretend to be an expert on this (or anything else that I can think of at the moment); just sayin that sometimes it's of benefit to read the boring, small print Ts and Cs and in this case, the safety protocols.
