Diamond Plus at 18-20 years old - what do you get?

Tnx.  In practice I wonder if the kid can get a beer or wine for their parent?  I would assume not, but I thought I read a thread that stated someone did that.

Probably one of those inconsistent variable actions ship by ship.  In theory a youth card is coded to block alcohol purchases but in practice I don't know if it's just a red flag that can be overlooked or a hard system coding.

Yeah.  I would imagine so.  That would be nice in the future since I have a few minor D+ kids.

No such age limit on gun ownership.  😞

It actually depends on the type of firearm. An 18yo can legally purchase a shotgun or rifle (typically/hopefully  for hunting). Anything else requires 21 up to legally purchase it.

But to the point, the legal age in the US is ridiculous at 21. You can fight and die for your country, but you are not responsible enough to drink. The big issue is that  states lose federal highway funding if they lower it, and that’s a big chunk of change.

I was drafted in 1970 at the age of 18. I wasn't old enough to vote but old enough to get drafted.  I was lucky and was from a state that the legal drinking age for any alcoholic beverage was 18 years old. I was surprised how many kids I was in the service with that came from states where the legal drinking age wasn't 18 year old's.

Depends on the gun; handguns yes, long guns, no.

Ownership is different than purchasing. You can OWN a gun at any age.  You can't walk in and purchase one at any age, however.

My son received guns as birthday gifts at 9yo, 12yo, and 18yo.

He enlisted with the Army at 17yo, then shipped out at 18yo after he graduated high school.

When he was 18yo, he could purchase vape fluid, but then a year later the age got changed to 21yo without a grandfather clause.

He's now 22yo and buys whatever he wants. 😉

you will get the look of " you don't belong here" " who gave you the stateroom room" "I think he is cheating". and I won't even comment if you get a suite and get to that lounge lol. I used to pay attention to those eyes staring at me but to be honest I don't even care right now

It is kind of f'd up isn't it?  Good for your son for enlisting and supporting the US.

If we do happen to go to a lounge, we are indifferent to people staring or looking.

I think you are confusing "ownership" with "posesion"

regardless, the post I quoted was incorrect regarding no age limits

I think you are confusing purchasing with ownership/possession. And the rules are different for private sales versus FFL sales.

Regardless, gun ownership has nothing to do with CAS benefits.

Unless you take the benefits by force.  😉 (#funny/notfunny)

Follow up - no one mentioned the cabin amenities for D+. My husband and I have a wine selected for ours. Should the 18-20 year old D+ members who will be sailing in their own cabin call and get an amenity put on their profile or will they even get this amenity? (Obviously it would be one of the non-alcoholic choices)

Yes, they can get a beach towel, a fruit plate, slippers, etc. -- it's not all booze!

Wow,somebody went cruising a lot as a child! Holy crap! 175 nights or so! Unless it was still under the double points system which ended when we started cruising😡

Lots of us took our kids cruising as they grew up.

Mine were both "only" Diamond when they hit 18, simply because we did not start sailing RCI until they were 12 and 14, they had as many nights on Disney as they did on RCI at that point plus some another 50 or so between Princess, Celebrity, MSC and Carnival.  So far none of us have had double points, but my now adult son and I will be on the Wonder TA getting double points, which will kick him into Diamond Plus status a sailing sooner than he would have otherwise managed.

Well, the age to purchase is 21 in every state and DC; it's still 18 in Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and Guam (basically everywhere that doesn't get federal highway funding, so did not have to raise the age ti keep from losing funding).  But, yeah, in practice that means most of the US, and that has led to RCI'S rules about North American sailings having a drinking age of 21, but if the cruise stops in San Juan, those 18-21 year olds can have a pina coloda on land.

Update on the $6 free play promo in Casino for D+

Wife got $16

Myself $11

Daughter $8

So concur and confirm extra on Night 1 for sure, as to how it is calculated

That remains to be a mystery .

The first-day money in the casino is for everyone, regardless of CAS level.  It ranges from $2-$100 and is a random lottery type of thing, kind of like "every player wins" type promotions at McDonald's.... most people get a free small order of fries ($2 in the casino), a couple people get a Big Mac ($10 in the casino), and once in a while someone gets a year's worth of fries ($100 in the casino).

The $6 for D+ is redeemable any day of the cruise, but the "extra" money is only available the first day, then it's lost.
