How? > Drinks On Us! included while playing in the casino (P5E)

Howdy folks.

I have read several threads and I am still VERY confused about this Cassio rate I booked for a March cruise on Dream.

1) Does this mean I am already qualified day 1 and will get the DOU card and free drinks while I play?

2) Or do I still have to become qualified by getting 1000 "points" or so during the cruise?      *I don't gamble that much $.

I am hoping it's #1.    Anyone experienced with Drink On Us! ?

Thanks!!

Jim

On our December cruise, drinks are from day one.  Best to check with casino host near cashier~~they have a list with qualified names.

Getting a drink on that cruise took a lot of patience.  Finally, we went to casino bar.  They did take our order but didn't look too happy.

I noticed on my Thanksgiving cruise, there was a $0.00 "Drinks On Us" Line item on my invoice in the Hub App, that may be a way to confirm Drinks on Us without having to wait for the Casino boss.

In general, if you have questions on your offer/drink benefits, once on board, walk up to any bar and they can run your card and confirm if you have DOU in casino, versus DOU anywhere on ship, etc.

We recently experienced confusion out of Galveston because we were told "cheers" was not available on embarkation day in Galveston and assumed it would be the same for DOU.  However, bar staff confirmed DOU anywhere on the ship (which is very similar to Cheers) WAS available on embarkation day.  And sure enough, as soon as they ran the card, they could see DOU (anywhere) was active and available right after we boarded.

If you have DOU in the casino, you get them from the waiters/waitresses? The casino bartenders don’t like you to order from them? Do they just want to make sure you are playing? Is there anyway to check if both of us will have it? I remember getting the offer and booking and I thought it was for both of us…. Now I’m questioning that.

it is put on your sail and sign and dont need to do anything... you will need to order drinks from the servers in the casino while the casino is open, and not the casino bar.... that's all enjoy!              I mentioned to the server on my first drink just to make sure they knew..

You are correct on both of your first two questions.  Yes, they want to make sure you are playing so technically you are only allowed to order from the server while seated at a table/machine but YMMV.  The easiest way to check on both of you is to ask at the host desk in the casino, they have a list of everyone there on a casino program and what offer each person has.

My cruise on the Pride in December included drinks while playing in the casino.  However, neither the casino host nor the guy in the 'cage' knew anything about it, they said my name wasn't on the list.  I then went to the front desk and asked, they couldn't see it either.  So I gave up.  About the third night I went to the casino bar to order a drink and the bartender said do you know you have free drinks if you're playing.   So even though you don't get a DOU card, I guess they see it when the run the tab.  It was very confusing.

Exactly, there is no reason to talk to the host anymore, everything related to your offer is loaded on your card.  No lists or stickers these days thankfully!

Technically you are supposed to be actively playing and can only order from wait staff. The reality is, they will get you a drink regardless, and you can order directly from the bar too.

Technically, they won't and should not be asked.

I had Drinks On Us anywhere on the ship on my last cruise. I was given a check to sign whenever I ordered a drink.  Cost was always zero.  I also always tip $1 a drink.  If I didn’t have cash on me, I added it to the receipt.

This is exactly how it worked for me on our Valor cruise to Mexico over New Year’s.  Included a hefty discount on bottles of wine as well.

I had DOU "while playing in the casino" on my last cruise, in October. Shortly after sailing, the casino opened and I went to play and ordered a drink. When the waiter returned with my drink, he presented me with a ticket to sign showing the drink at full price.

I objected, told him I had DOU, and showed him the card that had been left in our cabin confirming as much.

He said we weren't far enough out in international waters yet. I had to wait until later to get free DOU. This was very confusing since the casino was up and running full speed.

I went back after dinner, same thing. Ordered a drink, showed my DOU card, got charged full price anyway.

Eventually I had to go wait in line to speak to a casino host. She took care of the problem and removed the charges for both drinks. But it was a hassle.

Bottom line is, you may have to work to get what you were offered. If your cruise rate includes DOU, make sure you get it.

When sailing out of a Texas port, the free drinks don't count on Day 1. You have to wait until 6am on Day 2. This is due to specific laws in Texas and New York and Carnival specifies it in the Cheers! Package details.
