JetBlue. So sorry you are missing the Azores, but it just gives you the excuse to do this trip all over again next year. Just a quick  question if you have time. How long did Celebrity give you to pack some stuff to take to quarantine, or have all your belongings been packed and transferrred with you. Just wondering if the worst happens on our trip if it’s worth keeping a small emergency bag if essentials ready.

They offered as much time as I needed to pack up, they actually asked me how many hours I needed to get packed. I told them 0 because all I wanted to do was to get to the isolation room and go right to sleep. When the room was ready for me, 3 guys showed up to escort me down, 2 to help carry my bags and 1 to spray sanitizer behind me... or maybe I just smelled really bad?

Has the Captain ever announced the Covid passenger and crew positive rates. It was my understanding that this information is to be made public to the passengers on a daily bases. You mentioned in your original post the Captain was strangely silent. Just curious .......

Hope you both are feeling better and somehow Celebrity at least can move you to a balcony.

All the best....See you on the next tack !

Yes he finally did yesterday. He said less than 1% of the ship tested positive and all were breakthrough cases with minor symptoms. We have about 1,300 passengers onboard and probably about the same amount of crew so 1% of 2,600 would mean less than 26 people onboard are sick... I don't know how I got to be so lucky!

Day 4 update...

I suppose I should start by clarifying my name as there seems to be much confusion. I am the OP and my name is David. My husband is Steven and he has posted on his own account a couple of times on here. Hopefully that clears up the who's who.

Anyway, I woke up today feeling about 95% back to normal. Just had to blow my nose a couple of times but the Covid fog brain is gone and all of my energy is back. Temperature and vitals checked by the doctor this morning were all normal. It's ashame I'm going to have to stay here for at least a couple more days, wish they would let you out the moment you tested negative.

My husband (Steven) is still symptomatic as expected. No fever but he has congestion and is tired. He usually recovers from illness much faster than I do so I wouldn't be surprised if he bounces back quickly.

David, glad that you’re feeling better. On the road to recovery. Hopefully your husband will bounce back quickly. Thanks for keeping us updated. You have a great attitude which can be difficult in a situation like this. Kudos.

So sorry to hear about your status.  I hope you are back at 'em soon.  Your scenario illustrates, for me at least, how being fully vaxed is not the solution to worry-free cruising.  Praying for your speedy recovery.  Thank you for reporting on how Celebrity is handling the situation.

Thanks for the update....Yes, it must be hard to take that your in the 1% club. BTW...considering your handle "jet blue", are either one of you flight crew members? I was a GA pilot years ago, and also logged some hours flying for a High Tech company I worked for.

Can't wait to see your pictures!

I woke up with a stuffed nose one day which isn't very unusual for me, it's a common problem I have. That night while sleeping I woke up in a pool of sweat and I was freezing cold with the chills, and an obvious fever. That's when I knew something was terribly wrong so I jumped in the shower and then called Medical.

I never lost my sense of taste or smell.

Sounds like our parents talked to each other... I always had to be cleaned up, no matter what it took before going to the doctor or hospital... LOL

In health and bon voyage

Slight correction, the captain just announced the covid positive cases as of today are now greater than 1%. So there are more than 26 people currently sick.

I really just wanted one more whiff of my CO Bigelow bath amenities before switching to Celebrity basic stuff. 😂

I am a pilot but currently in a corporate role for JetBlue, might transition to flying soon.

This is a great question and I've really been racking my brain on this one because we are very cautious. We went on lockdown a week before the cruise and did not go out anywhere in public, not even a grocery store. We drove down to Port Everglades by ourselves from Orlando. We arrived at the pier around 11:30 and went through the Retreat check-in, there were maybe 8 other people there but all spaced out in the seats they provided. We boarded via the gangway closest to the Retreat, not a soul around us so I really have to assume we caught it onboard. We haven't been to any shows or activities. We did go to the Retreat lounge a few times but there was never more than 10 people in there. No Martini bar for us but we did frequent World Class Bar every night, however this bar never got crowded so never seemed concerning to me.

The one thing I do remember on night 2, Luminae was very crowded and we got there around 8:00pm. There were maybe 8 people sitting/standing in the entryway waiting for a table and one woman was coughing and hacking more than normal. We only spent about 10 min waiting and I tried to position myself away from her, but that's all I can really think of.

With Delta there was the 6 feet, 15 minute rule.  The variants of Omicron, as a doc friend of ours put it, "doesn't carry a yardstick or wear a watch".   He told us, you can catch it walking by an infected person who is talking.  So glad you have turned the corner and starting to feel better!

David, sending well wishes to you and Steven. I am following your post, and enjoy your sense of humor! Perhaps you guys ought to request headphones whilst in jail so you can do the Silent Disco in your cell.

I'm usually the guy up on deck 5 laughing at everyone singing off key and dancing to different music. Maybe I should ask for a live feed to be set up so I can watch the atrium area from my cabin!

After shore excursions today I wouldn’t be surprised if the cases rise. Despite one of the ‘welcome aboard’ letters dated 8th April stating, “Buses will be at reduced capacity”, on my excursion this morning the 60+ seater coach was packed. I think the only empty seat was next to me as I’m travelling solo. Certainly no seats marked as to be kept free for social distancing as I was expecting.

Unlike some, I don't make a habit of accusing X of blatantly lying, but this is one place where it's clearly nothing but.  They've been saying that on their web pages since the restart as well, and have been doing absolutely nothing to make it true.

I am sorry but I do not think quarantined in a cruise ship cabin with all the food and drinks you want can be considered a Prisoner.

True. Prisoners get at least an hour of outdoor recreation time every day. 🤣😂

We sail next month and I’m cancelling down their tours to do safer DIY ones with no contact tracing

Oof. that sucks.I'm sorry that happened to you.

My brother was in the hospital for two days with E. coli once. It was nearly identical to what you described.

Noro ran rampant through my youngest son's intermediate school in 2017. At any given time over the last two months of school, 35-42% of students and staff were out with Noro.

Interestingly (to me) the aforementioned obese and asthmatic brother got pretty sick at home with Covid, pre-vaccine, but has absolutely no lingering effects. His obese, non-asthmatic wife has permanent liver damage from it. We know an extremely healthy, atheletic college freshman who hasn't been able to taste or smell anything for 19 months. We knew a super healthy 24 year-old firefighter who had just been through a college fire academy, gotten hired, passed the greuling physical, completed the hiring department's academy, got Covid, and died a week later.

I'll never be sorry I have worked hard not to contract this virus and to make sure that I am not transmitting it to others. I would like to think that we humans will try to be better about not being vectors.  I would like to think that.

Yes, this inconsistency and unpredictability is why I get so irritated when people try to write this off as nothing more than a cold or basically have an attitude like “I’m healthy and will survive so I’m going to do whatever the heck I want and if that means spreading this virus around so be it, my “freedoms” are all that are important and if you are old or have a health condition well that’s your problem, stay home”. The selfishness that has come forth from this pandemic has been one of the scariest things to see. The only way to minimize the impact of this thing is for everyone to work together to mitigate spread, but sadly most seem unwilling to do that at this point.

Maybe soon, they can have a dining room and sun deck area for just covid infected people. You could be served by covid infected crew....win win all round!

That way, you still get some sort of fresh air and holiday and the crew still get paid.

There could be enough infected people soon that they start isolating the non-infected to protect them. 😄😄 (Not wishing that…just some dark humor in these depressing days)

Selfishness is not new but agree the pandemic has shown it in more light. Selfish people of today were always that way…we’re just noticing it more now. Some things will unfortunately never change.

We sailed the Reflection a few weeks ago and before leaving, read on cruise critic that getting some silverware from MDR was a good idea in case this happened.
We were in Blu and asked our waiter the first day if we could each take a set back to our cabin in case we caught Covid. He said it would be brought to our cabin.

About an hour later, we went back to our cabin and found a set for each of us plus 2 water glasses and 2 coffee cups.
Thankfully, never had to use them.

I do find it interesting how there is no set standard to determine if you have this disease anymore. After I tested positive they kept testing my husband. He kept testing negative until the day he woke up with the sweats and chills like I did, that was the day he finally tested positive. I was always under the assumption that if it was in your system incubating, you would test positive.

@jetblue- I am sure this varies from person to person, but how many days was it between you waking up with symptoms, and the day your husband woke up with symptoms?
