10 Years Ago - 3rd July 2012 - 175 Anniversary

I probably won't get a chance to post this tomorrow, so thought I'd do it today.

Unbelievably, it's 10 years since the 175th Anniversary celebrations, and all the ships were in Southampton at the same time.

When I first booked the cruise, in my minds eye I saw perfect blue sky and warm summer sunshine as we sailed down the Solent.

Of course, it was the complete opposite - it just rained and rained !

However, it was a memorable day, and I think it was well organised by P&O.

I was on Arcadia, sailing to Iceland and Norway, and it was a very good cruise, as I remember

We were on Aurora, up to Spitsbergen and the fjords. When we arrived

back in Soton we had to be bussed up to Hants cricket ground where all

our cars were ready for collection because there was not enough room

at the docks for all the ships parking. Great cruise. 24 hour daylight.

Rama train was best excursion. Spitsbergen was fascinating with all

the signs warning of polar bears. Can’t believe it’s 10 years ago!

We were on Oceana to the Fjords. It was uncanny, but it seemed as though the weather cleared as soon as we left the Solent 🤭 Perhaps the weather was laid on especially for the sailaway. Still have the book they gave out.

Not wanting to get any "bragging rights" but I was invited to afternoon tea with Princess Royal on Oriana on that day.

If you want to get into "bragging rights" I wrote the book they gave out 🙂

Great thread dermotsgirl.

Our first cruise was June 2012 so I had no chance to be on any of those special cruises. I may have watched it on YouTube?
Would have loved to have been there, what dreadful weather though! Early summer wasn’t great that year, just before our cruise it was the Queen’s jubilee when they all got soaked on that river pageant! Our first cruise wasn’t the fab weather I was expecting but I was hooked!
