Entire Group Got Sick on Celebrity

We had our 2nd  booster 18 days before our B2B cruise. Ship was only 50% occupied and I would say we were reasonably cautious onboard. We tested positive on the day we arrived home our symptoms….. a slight cough no temperature, in fact  jet lag was our main problem. Vaccine and boosters work in stopping one getting seriously ill provided one has no serious underlying medical issues. We look forward to receiving our flu jab and hopefully another booster in September. We are adults if we choose to cruise or any other type of socialising we have to be aware that we run the risk of COVID and other viruses.

Wishing you and all your family a speedy recovery and I hope you and Celebrity can come to some sort of agreement.

Reading all these threads on people getting COVID, you could be forgiven for thinking that pretty much everyone on the cruise must have contracted the virus.

The reality is that considering how many people are on each cruise, the likelihood of getting it is still very low.

Take sensible precautions and accept the risk.

We work on the basis that the likelihood of getting the virus on a ship is very high but we will be on the Equinox for the second time this year at the end of August and what will be will be. Like everyone on here this blinking virus robbed us of the opportunity of cruising for too long and we are prepared to take the risk, others aren’t which is great, we all decide what’s good for us.  We are just grateful Celebrity have so far survived the crisis and grateful that they continue to offer us brilliant holidays, and we certainly don’t hold them responsible if we are unlucky and are infected, our choice, our fault.

Where and what test did you get?

My family and I are going on our 1st cruise in late August - Celebrity Equinox - Caribbean - and I am worried about getting the correct test, I don't want us landing in the US and then been told at the Ships boarding that our test results are not accepted.  I have heard of some using the 'at home test' but these are not supervised and reading the Celebrity guidelines they say that all tests must be supervised.

I can't even get a second 😞

Here only over 60's can get a second booster

Actually, you mean that a pharmacy, if they are administered by them or your physician, will not administer as long as you pay them directly vs through insurance or government paying for it?

Many individuals here in the U.S. have done so, early on and a few are doing so now for the 'xtra' boost...

We got an Antigen test 48 hours before boarding. We were able to get it at our local chemist 30 Euro each. I believe Boots also do this test. This test is totally acceptable to get on board.

No. But prefer to see real data to see how I should adjust my approach on board. Ignorance is never a good option.

I agree, yet that calls for taking very conservative measures while aboard and when in ports and etc., because there is no data available outside what one can glean from posts here and other public available sources...

At home test come in two varieties, supervised and unsupervised.  The supervised at home test which is observed by a proctor via Internet is acceptable.

We sailed from Fort Lauderdale in May and had to have a supervised test which we arranged at a Walgreens and it was free. Being from the UK we weren’t sure where to go for tests and had seen them on Google at all kinds of prices. We are hoping the same option is available when we sail late August - we may be on the same cruise as you leaving 29th. We are prepared to pay if we have to but am sure the tests have to be supervised as per USA rules. I would love to be wrong though!!!

Doesn’t work like that here.

Ontario is currently limiting fourth doses to people over age 60, as well as adults of any age who are Indigenous, living in long-term care, or immunocompromised. About 1.4 million people qualify, leaving roughly six million people who had a booster last winter ineligible to get another shot now.

Good point and by a conservative measure maybe 1% of cruisers are represented on these boards.  Yes there are the cruise lifers who purport to know everything about every ship and sailing because they do b44b’s, in this suite and that suite, but trust me, they know about as much or as little about all this as you, me or anyone else.  Be vaxxed, boosted and sail on and enjoy and hope they don’t use the magic mirror and move you to a room in the bowels of the ship, if heaven forbid you are deemed to have crossed paths with a close contact somewhere on board.

What for? There is no benefit for anyone to publish this information. If you're not satisfied with the situation then don't cruise, it's as simple as that.

For real, no benefit to know infection rates on cruise ships? The situation is no one really know the true situation on ships.

I don't think there is any realistic way to measure the *risk* of getting COVID on a cruise ship based on previous numbers. All it takes is the start of a surge, sitting next to somebody who tested positive and didn't tell anybody or who hasn't tested at all but is symptomatic, or brining it on board with you. I know several family or friend groups (not cruise-related) who discovered *they* were the source of the super-spreader event at their gathering.

We've had conversations ourselves about the reality that we may very well get COVID on our next sailing. We didn't on our last, but it was a river cruise at 25% occupancy. We just plan for that possibility. I personally am a little concerned that one of the couple we are traveling with has cystic fibrosis and is on oxygen already, but they made their choices and do have plans to be as "bubbled" with us as possible. But we aren't "bubbling" and could be the weak link. They know this.

Now, we are also on a cruise leaving and return to Fort Lauderdale so quarantines in a foreign country really aren't an issue, and we have insurance to cover 14 days of doctored ordered isolation if we test positive on the ship and need stay in FLL a few extra days.

Cruising is riskier right now. We all are booking cruises aware that getting COVID is possible. The way to cope with risk is to prepare for the "what-ifs," or avoid the risk all-together.  If one can't have a good time in a higher-risk environment, then cruising is probably not the best choice right now.

The test is supervised……you get a proper print out saying you are COVID free. We had to wait 20 minutes for results.

My only advise to have a hard copy of everything printed out. We boarded in May with absolutely no problems.

Safe travels and have a wonderful cruise.

Agree. I Track each day the cases in Italy per their website. A month ago about 15,000 average. Now at 84,000 with a new daily high of 135,000 for yesterday. Going higher. If you use the land rate to estimate probability of getting Covid on board is rising quickly. Big decision for many. And Italy still has mandatory isolation for 7-21 days. Hard to ignore the data.

Italy is definitely a very strict situation. My personal risk level probably wouldn't cruise out of there right now, but that is me. I might be willing to do a land-trip in Italy depending on where I was and what I was doing.  Paris had pretty high numbers when were there in April and everything went well.

I just hope that each variant gets weaker so that even if it's more contagious it's less of worry.

Only over 75’s and those at risk in UK

Over 75 and 60 only…yikes seems a short sighted policy.  It’s 50 and over here unless a underlying condition.

For me, this is all the data I need. 0% chance I'd take a cruise that embarks/disembarks in Italy until this changes.

In UK over 50s will be getting our fourth test in the autumn along with the flu jab .

I’m curious (since we have a land tour followed by a cruise on July 15). Did your party have the 2nd booster? The reason I ask is because I will be 15 days post booster and my husband will be 30 days. I’m wondering if getting the booster provides any added protection.

I just got off Celebrity summit with my brother and sister in law.  I never had covid before and neither did my SIL  and we both tested positive the day after we got home with full blown symptoms. We had the booster (our second!) 2 weeks prior to the cruise as a precaution.  This new variant B4 and 5 seems to  resist the vaccine. Our husbands were fine having had covid fairly recently before our trip

We just returned from Summit, cruise began on June 26. We are both Seniors and we weighed the chance of getting Covid and still went anyway. As we figured, we could get Covid going to Walmart. It’s a chance we were willing to take to have a cruise we had cancelled twice and waited 3 years to take. If we come down with Covid, it could have come from the cruise, from the buses we took, from the ferry we rode, from the rest areas we stopped at on the drive home or the restaurant we got food from once home. We won’t blame Celebrity and we will cruise again ! Life’s to short to hide at home!

I was on the same cruise and got covid the day I got home. so did my sister in law. Got a second booster 2 weeks prior too  This new varient seems to resists vaccines more  Got the alert on my phone too.  Did you? And on a side note i dont regret it.  We had a fabulous time!
