When Does Cabin GTY Get Assigned?

Horizon Sept 25 sailing -

Took advantage of an guaranteed Oceanview casino offer, but wondering if anyone has any experience on how far in advance the cabin number is assigned? Currently says TBA on my luggage tags, but wondering if that ever changes online and if so, is it enough time to upgrade.  I have this horrible fear of my husband and I being assigned bunk beds, lol…..seriously

thanks!

I don't think there are any bunk bed oceanview cabins. The bunk bed cabins are usually all interiors, or portholes.

Guarantee cabins can be assigned any time up to and including during check-in at the pier. Typically they're assigned around the time you complete online check-in however. So I'd say it should be assigned in about a month.

GTY cabins are typically assigned somewhere around a month before you sail although that can range very widely literally from to a few days after one books right up until sailing. And on most ships, OVs are the 'safest' possible category as there is very little difference between the cabins.  All the OVs are on Deck #1 or #2 and are all pretty equivalent.  Any 'bunk bed' cabin would be classified as an Interior (even if it had a porthole) so you won't be assigned to it. No need for worry. Enjoy your cruise.

My experience with the guarantee cabin category is similar to others already posted which is about 1 month before hearing about the cabin assignment.  My only addition is that casino offers are typically  good rates so maybe not expect any great deal on an upgrades.

I have had them assigned two months out, and I have had them assigned two weeks out.  Just depends on a lot of factors.

I will say the few times we have done it (don't do it very often because I am afraid I will end up in a room I hate), we have been very happy with the room we were given.  It was a room we would have likely picked ourselves.  We have even been upgrade to a different class of room (inside to ocean view).  For the price we paid when we did these less expensive trips, we were quite happy with the choice.

Don't think you need to worry about bunk beds  😉

I agree - I've done guarantee rates a few times and only once has it not worked out in my favor. But that one time was a last minute cruise where the cruise was leaving in like 4 days so they gave me basically what was left. Other than that, all the rooms have been on good decks in good locations and I paid less than if I had picked those rooms myself. So I am a fan of GTY bookings, at least for Carnival with casino rates.

I book GTY all the time, once I scored a Mini Suite from a CAT 1A, anyways to answer your questions, a few weeks until cruise day or not even until you get to the cruise terminal.  Usually when I dont see anything until cruise day its a great upgrade.

I don't book cruises for cabins, so wherever I end up its fine with me, I can sleep on the basketball court and even when I score a free balcony, I might go out there once.

The earliest I was ever assigned a GTY was about an hour after I booked and the cruise was several months away.

It was good all around since I booked a Balcony Gty. and ended up with a Suite.

Another time it was about  a month before the cruise .

Mine was a unique situation, but I had a balcony guarantee booked on a sailing, and then Carnival switched which ship we'd be on after we booked. Once the ship change-over was completed, my guarantee room was assigned at that time -- roughly nine months prior to sailing.
