Taxi from Syndey Airport to Cruise Port - How Much

Recommended Posts

I agree. I doubt that the Princess rep could take money and issue a ticket on the spot. I will email my TA.

Previously when two of us where cruising, we always got a taxi. It wasn't that much more expensive, but on the WC I am going alone.

Wow. I admire your bravery. WC is a biggy🥰🥰🥰

We paid $60 AUD last month for a taxi from the airport to the port (not pre-booked).   From the port to the airport, the best price was a Princess bus transfer for $20 AUD each.  Both modes of transfer were good

Is the bus just waiting at the cruise terminal.  I saw nothing online to pre-book it.

The bus is at the cruise terminal, but I am pretty sure you have to pre-book it. The Princess rep in the airport always has a clipboard with a list of names of the passengers who have tickets. Getting a shuttle bus ticket for the end of the cruise is easy - just go to the Shore Excursions desk to arrange it.

I am wondering for those who have cruised in Sydney before the approximate cost of a taxi from the Airport to the Cruise Port.  I see online those offering shuttles/taxis for upwards of $185 AUD and one as low as $85 Aud.  The sheet I got from princess says taxi service to the port is about $40 AUD.  Should I book ahead or just grab a taxi at the Airport?

Grab a cab mate 👍

When we received information about debarkation choices, we were able to choose Princess Transfer to Airport.  Day or 2 later we received tickets for the bus transfer.   The bus stopped at all the terminals required by people on our bus.   It was really easy.   I have also done the train journey to and from the airport and our choice of taxi to and bus from the port was easier.

I'll be fine. I mix easily. The roll call has been very active and I have a lot of friends on there. We have been meeting for lunch occasionally.

Well done. I think I mix easily too but I am definitely not an adventurous person! When I was widowed I never once went into a restaurant alone! Food court fir a coffee and check my phone was my biggest outing on my own.

I probably wouldn't go into a restaurant alone either. On cruises, my husband stays in bed longer than I do. He does at home also. I like to go to the MDR for breakfast and lunch but he likes to go to the buffet. He said he can get just what he wants. He is happy to go with me to the MDR for dinner then to a show afterwards. Otherwise I spend a fair part of the day on my own.

My husband last out of bed too! Hence he ALWAYS  makes the bed! Last one out makes it is the golden rule 😂😂😂

however to be fair he sleeps more solid in the morning if he’s been awake a few hours in the night. 😇

We got hosed by taxi service leaving OPT yesterday. We got charged 70$ to go from the terminal to the Hilton on George street which was only about 2-3km away.

It was a long day with the long disembarkation and hauling 2 kids and lots of luggage so i didnt dispute it but figured it was too much. I asked at our hotel check in and he said taxis in Sydney are pretty dishonest and like to overcharge. I googled it after and should have been about 30-35$. Not worth the time to complain.

I talked to concierge after and they arranged a cab to the airport tomm. Said should be about 60$.

I'm so sorry you got ripped off.  It is the principle.  No-one likes to be overcharged!  I had walked the distance, so knew it shouldn't cost much.  Taxi off taxi rank, charged $21, whilst it should have been around $10.

The story ended up having a happy ending.  I asked a man in my building for a taxi recommendation for my return trip to the railway station.  He said he only uses uber and ended up driving me to railway station and wouldn't take any money.  He said you remind me of my mother and I couldn't charge my mother any money!!  Made my day!  What a lovely man!!

As others said both modes are good - for the two of us I booked a transfer for our 12 Nov cruise as it's $24 pp and cab costs just as much

However if you have more persons cab might come out as a cheaper choice

We used princess transfers when we boarded 11 Oct $24 each. No problem at all and no worries about a meter running. Plus the “host” guy was hilarious and certainly got the cruise mood started right at the airport. He was the same one hosting three years ago. Obviously brilliant at his job.

I bet you must have run into Rodney, and he's very good at his job 🙂

Hi,

Not completely relevant to this thread but in a similar vein.

We're cruising on Azamara from Auckland, finishing our cruise in Sydney (White Bay) in early February and have booked (or our TA has) a hotel (Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour). I can see that it's a relatively short distance between the two. I've established that White Bay is not on public transport and I suspect we wouldn't wish to use it with our luggage and a folding wheelchair anyway. The cruise line only has a 'tour with city drop off' option, at a silly price. If we were simply staying one night, a quick city tour might just be worth it, but we'll have four nights before we move on and can do things in a more leisurely fashion.

That leaves taxi, prebooked transfer or shared shuttle. From another thread, I found Redy2Go and they have a shared shuttle van, which I could book. From reading this thread, it would seem that some taxi drivers in Sydney are like they are anywhere - always on the lookout to take you for a ride in more ways than one! Am I right in thinking that a shared shuttle is a reasonably safe way to do it, even if a city taxi with a working meter might be a few $ cheaper?

You won’t have any problem with the taxis in Sydney, they have a better reputation that shuttle services.

Taxi to darling harbour will be about  $30 by taxi or Uber,it’s only about 20 minutes or less.

There’a taxi rank just outside the terminal doors, there will be a bit of a line but just get in the line.

We caught a Uber last time at white bay ,quite easy, he found us.

  • According to a current affair report on the teev yesterday, touting is happening again at airports.
  • I've  experienced it overseas (Hanoi Airport). My wife and I were walking towards the official taxi rank and we were constantly harrassed by touting drivers offering to take us to the city. We ignored them and, on our arrival at the taxi rank, found the official (legal) taxis to be cheaper than the touts. (The closer we got to the rank the less the touts were offering - rip-off indicator).
  • On the TV program touts were picking up unsuspecting fares and charging OTT fares on arrival at passenger's destinations. Con artists.
  • This link may help.

I thought the report last night about touting at airports was referring specifically to Melbourne airport. I don't know if it is happening at other airports. We have never encountered it, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened.🙂

My apologies if this has been suggested already (I have not read through all 41 replies) but why not just get the train from the airport right to Circular Quay.

MUCH cheaper than a taxi.

We used to take the train from /to the airport and to/from Circular Quay but it is getting harder as we age to pull/wheel our luggage and lift it onto the train. I think it depends on your age and health and fitness whether it is better to get a taxi or take the train. We now will take a taxi.

We were met at luggage carousel by a rep who escorted us over to the waiting area where there were prob 30-40 people waiting. Within a couple of mins we were boarding. They had everyone’s names on their spreadsheet so not sure they would do a ticket on the spot. I’d def just ask your TA do it’s sorted

Can I clarify the Princess shuttle details? I assume they don't do any other stops along the way, between the airport and the OPT (I'm thinking of the hotel shuttles I've sometimes taken in other cities which take you via every hotel in the city and take a million times longer than the trip itself should take). Do they take the passengers directly to the port? And at the port do they take your cases off and take them directly to the luggage check-in for you? Or do you queue up with your cases?

I always take the train from airport to Central. However I don't pack a large suitcase.  When my BF Tony and I returned from OS a month ago we had 6 minutes to schlep our bags from the airport train which stops at platform 23 to the Newcastle train at platform 8. To save time I took both our bags down and up the stairs instead of using the lift. Each bag weighed 16kgs. We made the train with a few minutes to spare. I'm lucky she also packs light but cos  she is vertically challenged so it's easier for her to keep up with me by not having to haul her bag. I'm also lucky that at 74 I have a some fitness left. (Have had to do that a few times.)

Getting from Central to White Bay with a couple of friends we have taken a maxi taxi  - one cab for the four of us plus luggage. It was a five seater but enough room. At the Central taxi rank there is almost always a maxi taxi if anyone needs one. IIRC it was about $35/$40.

The ship's shuttle bus takes passengers directly to the port. Staff there unload the suitcases at the luggage-drop area.
