Bad move up experience

$240 is not insubstantial.  However, I would be shocked if most people don’t spend that amount on a 10-day cruise, especially assuming 2 people in a cabin.  Shore excursions, photos, specialty dining, spa, beverages, internet, gift shop, laundry . . .

The question isn’t whether we would be satisfied with the OBC, but whether the OP was.  And s/he seems to be.

The suggestion to call Captain’s Club worked. They could see that the bid was $200. Tried to say additional $240 was for tipping but saw that tips had been prepaid. Admitted tipping for OV and veranda are the same. Tipping has gone up but since prepaid should not have been changed.
thank you for that suggestion

$240 was not refunded but given as on board credit which is fine

If you want that $240 back, go to the casino and cash out the $240 on a slot machine.

Thanks for all your concern. I agree, should have been returned to my credit card but wasn’t worth any more arguing with the supervisor. I think we’ll have no problem spending the OBC. But, doubt we’ll ever do move up again. We’ll enjoy the large family veranda, just hope being under the buffet doesn’t turn out to be a problem.

I've been under the buffet before on a solstice class ship and it wasn't really a problem. During the morning I could hear a little bit of noise as they were cleaning up etc, but it wasn't super disturbing, and nothing overnight.

Congratulations. Enjoy your cruise. As far as I can recollect, this is the first time anyone has ever been charged the incorrect amount.  Did they provide you any indication of how this happened?

Warning  for others to check their amount thoroughly.

But that is the point - it was not resolved favorably.  The OP was overcharged for something, and rather than refunding him/her, they gave her nonrefundable OBC which he/she has to spend on the ship.  It should have been a refund back to whatever card paid, and a small OBC given as an apology for what happened.  Instead, he/she was overcharged and is now obligated to spend that overcharge on board whether or not they want to.

Who said it was non-refundable.  Not the OP.

Yeah, I can’t find where OP said it is non-refundable and in my experience when OBC is given as a refund for something, it usually is refundable.

I'm sorry if I seemed insensitive about the amount you were overcharged. I was (and am) glad you were able to get some resolution to your issue.

Bon Voyage!

This past May I was on a RC TA to England. I called and got a $2200.00 "refund" due to a reduction in the cruise price. It was applied to my OBC. When I got onboard I checked the app and it was listed as non-refundable OBC. I argued the point onboard to no avail. I ended up spending it on jewelry I really didn't need or want because I wasn't about to give it back to them. I later found out I could have gone to the casino, applied that $2200 to my gambling account and than cashed it out. Lesson learned a bit to late. I'd be willing to bet the OP will find out it is non-refundable OBC when they check the app after they board.

If you don't get a satisfactory response from CC I would contact the Engagement Center at 888-305-1427 they are also sometimes referred is Resolution Department.

If you are booked with an Agent you might also get them involved or you Celebrity Cruise Planner.

It's safer to assume that it is non-refundable. Based on our recent experience (Eclipse was delayed due to tugboat operator strike in Vancouver). X made absolutely sure that it was clear that the OBC compensation applied to our account was refundable.

The one thing that surprises me is that they didn't give you a bit more than just what you were overcharged as a sort of apology for the mistake.

Enjoy your cruise.

I'm sorry this happened to you.

I'm glad it was resolved, even if not in the best way for you.

I hope the credit card used is one with a good points program. Then, you can redeem those points in the future. If you end up using the $240 for extra tips, you will now have earned points on spending that you normally would not have.

It won't be a lot of points, but it could reduce the sting a bit.

If the reduction in price was after final payment you got the OBC under the Cruise With Confidence Best Price Guarantee which clearly specifies the reduction in price will be given in Non Refundable OBC.  Remember if that situation happens now you get NOTHING.

My thoughts as well.  Unless OBC was offered and OP accepted, although it should never have been offered.  If you are overcharged you deserve your money back and nothing less.

You cannot just cash out OBC on a slot machine.  You can use OBC to bet; but only cash out your winnings. The OBC itself stays in the machine until you lose it.

On nay nay.  You are incorrect.....

I was told the same on the Millennium a couple weeks ago.

You are correct, it's something I did not know at the time nor was I informed but do know now for the future.

That is not what I was told by 3 different concierges I talked to on my cruises this year. You might be right, I found out after the fact and did not try it. Just saying what I was told by people who should know.

I do not know whether it makes any difference but, if you are in an M-Class ship, the family veranda cabins are not really under the buffet. They are under the Sunset Bar. To the best of my knowledge, M-Class ships are the only ships that have family veranda rooms under the Lido Deck.

That's why you don't ask.  You just do.  If it fails, nothing lost.  They are sure not going to give you instructions to do something they don't want you doing...
