Mariner of the Seas April 1 cancelled

Just received the following email:

Dear Guest,

We're continuously working to enhance our ships and the many amenities they have to offer. Mariner of the Seas is currently undergoing dry dock for routine maintenance and exciting, which will require some extra time for these upgrades to be completed. Regrettably, this means our April 1st, 2023 cruise has been cancelled. We know this news is disappointing and apologize for the impact to your cruise.

Your vacation is important to us, along with the flexibility to make the best decision for you and those in your party. Below, we've outlined guest options along with a few additional details.

Option 1: Re-book any Royal Caribbean International sailing and receive a Future Cruise Credit.

  • If they prefer to re-book another sailing, we'll waive any non-refundable deposit change fees.
  • Please know, they'll be responsible for any difference in pricing for their cruise fare, taxes, fees, gratuities, and other non-cruise fare items.
    • If their booking was already paid in full and their cruise fare rate decreases, we'll provide them with a refund for the difference. They can expect to receive their refund to their original form of payment within 14 business days after we move them. Kindly note, refund times may vary depending on their financial institution.
  • They'll also be reimbursed for non-refundable, pre-purchased transportation change fees incurred (such as a flight, train ticket, or rental car).
    • We'll cover up to $200 USD per guest for Domestic changes, or up to $400 USD per guest for International changes.
    • Please email their receipts and booking information to RoyalGuestRelations@rccl.com for review and reimbursement.
    • If they have any travel expenses beyond these amounts, please send us the receipts including a brief summary of these expenses for review.
  • To sweeten the offer, they'll receive a Future Cruise Credit to book a new cruise and sail by April 1st, 2024.
    • This amount is 50% of their original cruise fare paid based.
    • Their certificate can be used on any Royal Caribbean International sailing that departs on or before April 1, 2024.
    • We will automatically issue their Future Cruise Credit via email within 2 weeks from selecting this option.
  • Please note: If they previously used a Future Cruise Credit (FCC), we'll have it reapplied to their new sailing.

Option 2: If they can't find a new itinerary that works for them and choose to cancel, we'll be sad to see you go. They'll receive:

  • A full refund of any paid portion of their cruise fare (including non-refundable deposits) and any pre-paid amenities to the original form of payment within 14 business days. Kindly note, refund times may vary depending on their financial institution.
    • If they used a Future Cruise Credit on this sailing and they request a refund instead, we'll refund any NEW funds paid above the certificate amount and we'll reinstate their original certificate.
  • To sweeten the offer, they'll automatically receive a Future Cruise Credit to book a new cruise and sail by April 1st, 2024.
    • This amount is 50% of the cruise fare paid based on their original stateroom category booked.
    • Their certificate can be used on any Royal Caribbean International sailing that departs on or before April 1, 2024.
    • We will automatically issue their Future Cruise Credit via email within 2 weeks from selecting this option.
    • Please know, if they choose this option, we will not provide additional compensation.

Please note, any unsold group space (inventory without names and full deposit) does not qualify for the alternate options provided.

It's important to us that your clients find the best cruise option. Please call us at 888-281-9344 by March 29th, 2023, to let us know your decision. And please know, hold times may be longer than usual. If they decide to go with Option 2, there's no need to call us. If we haven't heard from you by March 29th, 2023, their reservation will be cancelled.

Do they not proofread?  It's undergoing dry dock for exciting?

"exciting commas" apparently haha

We picked this one because it was over my husbands birthday and our 30th wedding anniversary. Luckily we are doing the British Isles in May. Really wanted to be on a ship for our celebrations but looks like that won't happen.

Sure hope it's ready to go for April 6th. Offers for it being canceled won't do me any good since it's a comped casino cruise but I'll be out flights.

Mine is a very well priced one.  Just looked at other April sailings out of PC- pretty pricey

Exciting what?  Don't leave me hanging.  😆

That's too bad.  I'm booked on Explorer also on April 1.  It seems like she should sail as planned though.

The problem here is if you have airfare booked.

Sounds like she needs to go in for some sort of repairs.  Someone couldn't even bother finishing editing the boiler plate to get rid of the "exciting".  Whatever is being repaired might be "routine" but it certainly wasn't planned if they're cancelling sailings and throwing money at people to bring it in outside of standard dry-dock schedule.

The reimbursement offers smell very much like covid cancellation offers which I'm all too familiar with.  Fair offers though...hope you can make good use of it!

Sounds like it isn't going in for drydock unscheduled, just that they are extending the one currently running.

My daughter and her 2 children were scheduled for the April 1 cruise.   She is beside herself and asked if I would help her find another cruise for the same time period.  My husband and I are experienced cruisers but never had this kind of thing happen.

I found her a cruise on Celebrity Beyond for the same time period and have it on hold.   Because Celebrity is part of the Royal Caribbean family, would she be able to have the $ transferred to the Beyond?  or does she start all over and pay the full charges for the Beyond?

Just take the Royal refund and book Celebrity

My Son and Daughter in Law were taking our 12 year old grandson on this cruise for his birthday present. They had booked a Grand Suite and were all set to go.  Now scrambling to find out how to tell him and what to do.   Like you, we are experienced cruisers and have never had this happen.  But seems like "stuff" is happening more now than pre-Covid.

Looks like we are taking the refund and flying to Cancun. Cruises are mostly sold out and what cabins are available are extremely higher than what we paid originally. We will make the best of it. May decide we like all inclusives!

Rule of thumb: Never book the last cruise before drydock nor the first cruise after drydock.  Quite the april Fools joke on those passengers, would hope you could get some flight reimbursements.

So true! We did one sailing just prior to drydock and they started working during our cruise. It wasn't as relaxing as it could be.

I was one of the ones that got canceled.  RC was super accommodating!  Spent 2 hours on the phone and ultimately ended up on the Harmony leaving on the same day but going for 7 days instead of 5. They honored my price since obviously 7 days costs more, but there were no rooms left in the class I was so I had to take what they had.  It was for my Daughters Senior trip over Spring Break so I am super thankful they found us something else!!

That's great that they honored your price since the letter says otherwise

How do you find out when dry dock will be? I have never thought to look.
