Live Review: Anthem of the Seas Transatlantic May 1st-12th, 2023

Recommended Posts

Day 3 was more of a relaxed vibe, at least until figuring out lunch. For the first time ever, they are doing fine changes at noon each day. I was told, by multiple staff, to follow the time on the app and the sign boards. We had 1:15 lunch reservations. So at noon original time, we looked at the app, assuming it would now say 1pm…but it didn’t. So when the app said 12:55pm, we went to Jamie’s, a bit early…or so we thought. We were told it was now 2pm and we were late. Which was frustrating given that we were following what we had been told. The host did what felt like dressing us down for being late, including telling me to follow an analog watch…something I didn’t even own. That said, they did seat us eventually. I know we were not the only people with issues; some folks missed their iFly appt and were charged. Changing clocks at noon rather than midnight is such a silly idea.

Lunch at Jamie’s was great. This time my burrata camera with GF bread (the same mediocre stuff, but this time it was hot and toasted and actually pretty good). They made a special version of the truffle sauce that was safe to eat and it was SO good, as were the GF posh fries. MxCatLady said the burger was tasty, but way too much food, and really liked the polenta crisps as well.3A7A8F65-B552-4C8C-99E1-F64E4E950F63.thumb.jpeg.3d6b40aa7541c8e92f194df590295d42.jpegDAF72B05-38DD-479F-8FD6-E963A3C2BE36.thumb.jpeg.6123011ce7dffadcf2050eae0758e9a9.jpegFB98BE99-4B58-4805-B120-AE119CBE6CE8.thumb.jpeg.b08752664bd8b3307e358d40d212d697.jpegF691955F-89FA-441C-AE0D-7304EF191BD5.thumb.jpeg.1a9cd5b1e0fd3d54c7db31fcc6c11570.jpeg794CDE56-2CCA-4A22-84AF-7AD8B825246D.thumb.jpeg.5cb0ea51f48ea1aff724f4058d86a043.jpeg086F9186-8B33-45A9-9198-91422CFAA7E8.thumb.jpeg.9a28e70cff3392d39dca4d6ed647cb79.jpegA1A938C1-E5A4-460C-A8CB-7C8F124C2F7F.thumb.jpeg.6833d6df50e30042bc1c2a3838510354.jpeg

We skipped dessert as we were full, and went to go hide more ducks, followed by some time out on the balcony. Goddess, it is so beautiful and healing here. Exactly what we needed. Followed our balcony time with some napping.

We left the room a little after 7pm to give our steward the opportunity to clear out our trash and provide fresh towels and ice for my ice pack. After day 1, he has been great. We don’t need much, and what we need, he definitely provides.

Before dinner, we went up to deck 14 and found a little nest in the Solarium. It’s so beautiful there too, and just the right temperature to curl up. MxCatLady wasn’t really feeling sushi, despite our Izumi reservations, so they grabbed cheese fries and chicken nuggets from Johnny Rockets.

We asked for our same server, Hien, again at Izumi, and she was wonderful a second time. MxCatLady tried sake for the first time and really loved it, so that was fun.

And dear reader, this is where I made a poor decision. I’ve never been a big drinker, and I haven’t drank alcohol in 3 years since finding out I am mildly allergic to it, in that it triggers MCAS flares that hurt my joints, muscles, nerves, headache, and stomach stuff. But they had this delicious sounding cocktails and I LOVE sake cocktails annnnnd I had free diamond drinks and I ordered it. Drinking it was absolutely delish and divine. I would be ordering it every night. But then today (day 4), I woke up in so much pain that getting out of bed has become difficult. So the good news is that this has validated my allergy and decision not to drink; bad news is I’ve been hurting in bed today. My own dang fault.

that said, this time I got full veggie rolls instead of half, while MxCatLady had the firecracker shrimp, and a fried shrimp roll (which came as a half roll), and got an avocado roll for me. We took the Mochi to go again, grabbed some water from deck 4, and headed to the room to listen to our Becky Chambers book.

Update through the grape vine is a solo traveller from the UK who had some friends looking out for him, and had a DVT clot that needed immediate care. Hope this helps you feel better!

@CatLadyFemme thank you so much for replying! That was very kind. ❤️

I'm glad you're both having such a good time. I was sorry to get off on Monday rather than staying on for the crossing. I would have loved to get the chance to meet you in person.

We tried Wonderland for the very first time on our cruise and although it's not really our thing there was one dish that my son and I really enjoyed, called "baby vegetables in the garden" (or something like that). Might be worth seeing if they can make a version of that which would suit your dietary requirements, if it doesn't already.

Enjoy the rest of your trip. 😊

First, I’m sorry those people made awful comments!  I just can’t understand such hateful behavior.

Second, how cool to see an Aranet in the wild!  We use one to try for an educated guess on where we can eat indoors although we generally avoid it all together. We are cruising later this month and I plan to bring it along. I’ve been impressed that my work office is typically under 550ppm.

Thanks for sharing your cruise with us. I hope you have a great trip.

They were probably high school bullies in their younger day.

Once you get on the ship, you can do it. You just book them as you’d like, and then when you check in at the restaurant, you tell them you have UDP.

Can you do this if you have the Chops plus 1 dining package as well?

Where did you go CatLadyFemme? I'm really enjoying your review. I hope those drinks the other night didn't take too much of a toll on you.

I was wondering as well. . . hope all is well for them.

Sorry all! The internet was a bit rough, and I struggled a lot with long COVID symptoms, as well as getting normal people sick, despite masking and using our air filter. There were definitely lots of people who had COVID, and many other people just regular sick, and of course none of them would wear a mask. Currently sick in our London hotel, but with better internet.

That said! Here are some professional pictures to tide you over, and I will try to recreate some of the best days.

Awww, I’m sorry you got sick and hope you feel better very soon! I’ve been binge reading all of your cruise blogs since the re-start and will eagerly continue when you feel well enough to continue this. When you shared your history of blog writing, it all made perfect sense why you have such a way with words. Thank you for entertaining us on each cruise with your depictions, and please continue! 😀
