Did they resolve the one on the Rotterdam?? If so, that was quick!!!

Tends to be a 24-48 common traveler's affliction. Wash your hands continues to be good advice.

CDC has a special page for traveler health precautions for more information about "noro" -- almost a ritual problem in the early days of global travel and known by dozens of often amusing nick names; though not funny at all when it hits.

I did, and per usual very little info. As a matter of fact, CDC did not list the Rotterdam as having a norovirus, but pax did, and included the delayed sailings for extra cleaning. Hmm guess it was just "gastro".... or possibly food poisoning?

Yes.. finally the good ol days are back! Now if we can just keep the cows from farting Max!!! 🙂

Cruise lines are only required to report to the CDC when known outbreaks reach 3% or more of passengers or crew.  The challenge is passengers and crew have to report their symptoms to the medical centre in order for the ship to compile accurate numbers.  Not everyone reports.  Sometimes your best source if information for this type of information is CC and other social media sites.

I got off Volendam last week.  Hardly anyone washed their hands or used hand sanitizer  anymore when entering buffet or MDR. The filling of personal drink containers without using a cup was also back in a big way. Definitely worse than pre Covid days.

I doubt the CDC cares about a vessel that doesn't enter US waters, so there is no reason to report the Rotterdam to them (it's cruising Northern Europe out of Amsterdam).

Why would it not resolve once the cruise had finished and the passengers all got off?

Norovirus can live on surfaces for as long as 4 weeks. That's why we see the team wearing hazmat suits cordoning off areas and cleaning/spraying so thoroughly. But maybe they didn't get the bottom edge of the chair you just grabbed to adjust.

If staff gets it while they may feel fine after a few days but can still be contagious for as long as 2 weeks.

It's extremely contagious and only requires a tiny exposure to make you ill.

Don't stick your potentially contaminated hands in your mouth, eyes or nose. Think of the entire chain of contamination. If you watch where you use your hands, you can avoid the hazards of where you put your hands.

Why is this thread still here when there is no evidence of an outbreak of any size on the Rotterdam or any HAL ship at the moment! If you want to talk about Noro go to the Celebrity forum where they are dealing with a good size one that they just had on the Summit.🤔

Ok so I stand corrected. Thanks for sharing official info and not just rumors about outbreaks on ships from pax and unnamed sources.

They sent notices of late boarding for the last three sailings of the Rotterdam so they could do a deep clean because of illness.

The Rotterdam isn’t reporting to the CDC because of its location. I’m u aware of any organization in the EU that ships are required to report to. I would consider the letters for deep cleaning as confirmation.

Well reading further the CDC details about the 12 breakouts aboard ships this year you'll find that RCCL had 4 unknown on 3 ships, Princess 2 unknown 1 Noro on 3 ships, Celebrity 3 all Noro on 3 ships, P&O 1 unknown on 1 ship, and HAL 1 unknown on 1 ship. The Rotterdam is not that one ship.

So with the last post you just made you finally gave some credence to this subject on the claim of Noro on the Rotterdam, though the N word does not appear anywhere in the statement from HAL and I wouldn't expect it to be in there. Two things of note, based on a pax report in the original thread claiming to be told that there were around 60 people affected by the illness(Noro or other)that would amount to being just under the 3% threshold that the CDC has set for outbreak reports to be published if the ship was in US ports which it was not. The other thing of note is that the Rotterdam just received a perfect 100% score on it's VSP ship inspection on March 8 of this year.

HAL used the “N word” in multiple health statements during our Rotterdam cruise a few weeks ago. Why would you expect it not to be there? They try to interrupt cases of illness as soon as possible, and proper communication about the most likely pathogen causing the illness is key to their success. The Rotterdam is cruising in Europe, so the CDC will have no record of this outbreak. And lastly, having a perfect VSP score means that the kitchen is squeaky clean and that the crew are washing their hands. It has no bearing on passengers boarding the ship with a potentially contagious illness. In any case, hopefully the Rotterdam is problem-free now, as it’s been several weeks since the initial outbreak. 🤞
